Whisky tasting 3 whiskies for 26 pounds a bit more than usual. Place is 14 months old and Connected to the Glen Mohr hotel on the River Ness. They also make beers. Nice place to sit and have a beer or whisky. They also serve their own beer. read more

We visited four cities and stayed in three hotels over the course of our two-week vacation. The Glenmoriston was by far the best hotel - based on value, location, comfort, cleanliness, and friendliness of staff. The hotel is situated right on the bank of the River Ness. It's within easy walking distance of the Ness Islands in one direction, and the main part of town - shops and restaurants - in the other direction. I liked that it was a bit removed from "the bustle" of the city (if Inverness can ever be said to "bustle"), but close enough to get to without a car. Our room was in the "townhome" part of the hotel (not the main building, but the one across the parking lot), which was perfect. Our room was gigantic and super comfortable. My favorite thing was that the windows actually opened, which gave us a chance to enjoy the slight breeze and gave us a front-row seat to the church bells ringing down the way. The bed was huge and very comfortable. It was actually a little *too* comfortable; we ended up sleeping over 10 hours on our first night there! I woke up about five minutes before the front desk called to ask if we'd be needing housekeeping for the day. Oopsie! We didn't take advantage of room service or hit any of the property's restaurants/bars while we were there (we typically like to experience all a city has to offer when we travel, so while their menu looked inviting, we chose to try some of the places recommended by our taxi driver on the way into town, instead.) They did get bonus points for welcoming us to the hotel with two glasses of champagne - their way of congratulating us on our wedding anniversary. The shower looked modern, but it was kind of awkward to use, and it leaked all over the floor. They have a hair dryer (look in the desk if you can't find it elsewhere), as well as a mini putting green (stored in the closet; it's how you know you're in Scotland, I guess!) There's a TV we never used, and two comfy club chairs situated next to the windows. Check-in and check-out were fast, easy and friendly. They also went out of their way to protect us on that first day. Our taxi driver (super sweet girl named Michelle) was giving us all sorts of tips and advice on our way in, and after I mentioned my half-baked plan to rent bikes to ride out to Culloden, she dropped us off and headed towards a bike shop in town to get information on rentals. She came back to the hotel to tell us everything in person, and the front desk agent refused to tell her our room information, even though she (Michelle) kept insisting we were expecting her. This was the place that made us feel most comfortable, where we could relax after a long day of playing tourist, and where we'd definitely book again, if we're lucky enough to return to Inverness. We stayed here two nights with our tour group. Our corner room which was quite spacious was in the Windsor annex just a short walk across the car park. There are no lifts and no AC. We kept our windows open and used the fan. Our bed was quite firm and the pillows were flat. We were only in our room to shower and sleep. Breakfast was included but service was slow. The first morning, we were told that something was wrong with the stove. The food was good overall. We didn't eat lunch or dinner there because after looking at the menu, choices were limited and expensive. There's s nice bar and outdoor seating area. Hotel is in a lovely location and that is clearly what you are paying for. read more
The Glenmoriston Town House Hotel has all the makings of a top place to stay but it just didn't hit the mark for me I'm afraid. The hotel itself is attractive and well maintained, and it's location is perfect, nestled on to the banks of the River Ness, just a short five minute walk into town. The room itself was modern, clean and tidy, if a little on the small side. All the staff we encountered were really friendly and helpful, and the bar/cocktail lounge is great. We returned quite late on the evening of our stay for a late night cocktail, and realising we were quite hungry having missed dinner that night, asked if it was possible to get anything to eat. Unfortunately, the kitchen was closed, but the barmaid kindly gave us large portions of complimentary nuts and olives which nicely took the edge off of our hunger! The one thing that let this place down was the breakfast. This was clearly the area where the hotel was trying to save money and the quality and quantity was extremely poor. Luckily, the breakfast was included in our stay - if I had been expected to pay the £12.95 asking price for this meal I would have been disgusted! We came down in the middle of service, but the buffet was virtually empty - three times I had to make requests for bowls, juice and bread from the very young and harassed looking wait staff. For main course i went for scrambled egg and my partner for kippers - both portions were small, over cooked and pretty tasteless. It was telling that neither of us were able to finish them, even after missing dinner the night before. Admittedly, we had been very spoiled with our previous breakfasts on our journey around Scotland. Unfortunately, we were left very disappointed by the Glenmoriston's effort, and it really let down our stay. Improve your breakfast and you could have a winning formula here! read more
