When we arrived there was a wedding going on, which was a bit strange as it is a small hotel so you kind of felt a little in the way of the wedding. You can't book a table but the turn around is quick so you don't need to wait long. I picked the hot poached salmon and opted to pay about £4 more to get added king prawns. For an evening meal we were directed to an hotel just a short walk through Aviemore, and the recommendation was spot on. The short walk back was definately required to "see off" the fantastic meal we enjoyed! Our room was quiet, clean and very well equipped. As for the breakfast, typically Scottish, with "Pete's Porridge" a must. Both proprieters very much "hands on" and clearly experienced, and happy in the business. When next in the area we will definately book The Cairngorm GH again.

The rooms were clean, comfortable, and pleasant. Check-in was quick and fast, and room service was very helpful. We arrived at 8am in the morning and were allowed to check in to our rooms early! Breakfast buffet was really nice at the restaurant, and for £7.50, is pretty good value for unlimited hot grub. The dinner menu looked pricey though, and I would suggest eating outside the resort. There is a swimming pool, gym, sauna, and steam room in the complex next door too.

The doors open and often immediately slam shut before anyone can get on. Then, if one has made it on the lift the doors slam shut after only one peron has exited. The hotel has onsite amenites such as a bar and an Italian restaurant, Giovanni's, that were always closed. Giovanni's is prominently advertsed and the room guide says it is open daily. When asked, the front desk staff said it is only open on weekends. We were here in September, and the hotel was full of coach tour clientele. Breakfast is not served on site but in the conference centre next door requiring a walk outside. Breakfast was sparse and the buffet ran out of food. I needed to alert the hostess before it was replenished. For the most part if one wants to eat or drink one must walk into the village. The hotel itself could do with some refurbishment. I cannot recommend this hotel.

The maintenance guy came over "to help us get it sorted"... another words - turn it on. Ha! Big puffy down blankets kept us warm, it's cold at night here (June). Big hotel with rooms to rent on the property. They had play areas, kids video and play areas too. Pool had really weird hours. Apparently it was disinfected every few hours or some such nonsense AND you had to make an appointment for available times (in mid-day). I think that would have been fun but didn't use it. An area outside with growling moving Dino's... large enough to be fun for kids... a surprise for us! We loved the extensive trail system and the ruins of a local castle on a tiny island in the lake. Trails are well marked. People were nice, staff was helpful. Area was pretty and quiet. Centrally located. Great transit system; we made appointments to see local attractions via trains / bus - gotta get the timing right and pay ahead. Note: there are stiff fines for cars traveling inside Edinburgh and London- check on this before you drive!

We stayed in one of the A-frame cabins on the property. It was about a ten minute walk to the main hotel building, which we were okay with as there were families with children running all around the main hotel building. The cabins were perfect for four of us who wanted to sleep, read and catch up with each other. Cabins are well laid out and nicely furnished. The Hilton Coylumbridge is outside of Aviemore by a little less than a mile. That meant any meals with alcohol in Aviemore meant one of us had to be a designated driver. We did take advantage of the on-site restaurant our last night, so all four of us were able to eat, drink and be merry. We will be back.

I returned this year for the first time in 20 years and I was pleasantly surprised. This is a timeshare resort, set within a quiet position in the Aviemore Highland Village. You have views in all directions of the Highland mountains. The resort is a mixture of apartments and 2 bedroom houses. Scandinavian pine is the dominant feature, which provides the units with a practical but homely feel. They are spacious and the 2 bedroom houses can sleep up to 8 (one twin/double room, 4 bunks in the second room, and double sofa bed in the lounge). There is plenty of storage space and small shared garden space ideal for BBQs (Scottish weather permitting!). The units have all the mod cons including a flat screen TV, DVD player, washing machine and dishwasher. The only facilities beside the chalets are a small play park for children (which kept the 4 year old and 2 year old with me occupied for quite some time). As part of your stay you also get unlimited access to the McDonald Highland Village pool which includes a sauna, steam room and jacuzzi and is only 5 minutes walk away. There are plenty of other nearby attractions for all weather conditions from a cinema, to an outdoor adventure park (Landmark), to numerous walking and cycling routes. Shops are nearby including a small Tesco and a range of cafes, bars and restaurants. I am definitely not going to leave it so long before I return again!

We picked Aviemore as our central point to visit Scottish points of interest both East, West and nearby. We also wanted to self cater most of our meals to save on costs. When our travel agent recommended Lurcher's Cabin we realized this would fit our bill. The Tesco grocery store had everything we wanted to cook. The Strathspey Railway old steam train is a few minutes walk. Our girls loved the Wildlife Park nearby. The cafes of Aviemore were very nice. All thanks to having a cabin nearby. The cabin itself is extremely luxurious and had some facilities we envied for our own home back in Texas. The owner of the cabin, Pat, was welcoming and gracious on arrival and she explained everything we needed to know about the cabin and attractions close by. We would love to return again.
