Most places get a polite "yeah it was decent." Not this place. Holy $hit...Mestiza absolutely blew my mind. The birria tacos were the best I've ever had. Ever. Not "best in Boston." Not "best lately." I mean if these tacos and I got married tomorrow my wife would probably understand. The steak tacos? Unreal. The al pastor? Illegal levels of good. Everything tasted like the kitchen was personally trying to change my life. And the staff was awesome too. Super friendly, welcoming, and somehow patient while I sat there contemplating ordering a second full meal immediately after finishing the first one. This is the first restaurant in years where I walked out thinking, "well...food will never be the same again." Do not overthink this. Stop reading reviews. The menu is not huge, but it has enough for you to be satisfied. Beverages include beer and soft drinks, a small selection of wines, many of which are Portuguese, and sangria, red and white. Note that the prices of the wines and the sangria are not on the menu. We ordered the red sangria, which comes by the glass, and if I recall is approximately $9.45/glass. It's delicious and quite strong. Our appetizer was the cod cakes, which could just as easily be described as "cod cake tots" due to their size, but they're also priced "tot size" at $1.75 each. The Portuguese style meals are typically chicken, beef, or various types of seafood, generally served with a tomato based sauce with onions and peppers, on your choice of pasta or rice. Potatoes will also come with some meals. Our dinners came out VERY quickly, just about the time we were finished with the codfish tots. I ordered a frozen mango margarita and omg it was so delicious and the Hula Hula what an incredible presentation. Very family friendly atmosphere!!! Can wait to be back.
