Le Chocolat Du Bouchard - 5 Pieces Signature Dessert Flight

Update 2/2026:, Le…read moreChocolat du Bouchard is still, after all these years, one of my favorite places to indulge in something wonderful. What began in my mind as a temple of decadent desserts has evolved beautifully. The Bistro now serves inspired French fare, Croque Monsieur and Madame, baked French onion soup, sweet and savory crêpes, and other thoughtfully prepared dishes. It's no longer just about chocolate, though let's be honest... the chocolate still reigns supreme. This time I visited with a friend and her absolutely adorable 2.5-year-old -- a tiny human with a very serious devotion to chocolate. Watching her delight in each bite might have been sweeter than the desserts themselves. Elegant, cozy, timeless. A place that manages to feel both special and familiar at once. And yes, still a little dangerous for anyone who claims they'll "just have one bite."

My daughter lives in Las Vegas. I live in Sacramento. On a recent trip to Naperville, my daughter…read moreand her family came here for lunch. She called me as she was leaving the restaurant that afternoon to share with me what a wonderful experience they had and that she wanted very much to bring me here. The European konditerei ambiance she declared was exceptional. She described how the owner brought samples of her chocolates to their table and when my daughter exclaimed how much her Mom (me) would love this, the owner sent some truffles with my daughter to share with me! My daughter described how delicious the French onion soup was. So we made a plan to fly in to Chicago today and meet up at the airport and with so much excitement we were headed to Le Chocolat du Bouchard. We were late for our reservation but called and were told they would hold the table which they did. We sat down, the owner was sitting at the table in front of us. My daughter saw her and told me that was the owner who then saw us looking at her and asked "do I know you?" My daughter was so excited and said "yes, I'm from Las Vegas, my family and I were here a few months ago and you were so attentive to our table. I couldn't wait to bring my Mom and here she is." The owner made it clear she had no memory of my daughter or that experience at all. She showed no interest in meeting me. She then picked her phone up and definitely let us know that conversation was finished. She never looked at us again or thanked my daughter for coming back in. I ordered a beet salad which was lettuce, beets, and mandarin segments completely dry. No dressing at all. After we asked for salad dressing, we began noticing 4 or 5 of the employees pointing at our table and snickering which continued throughout our dinner and even as we got up to leave. The server brought our bill never asking if we would like dessert (it is a patisserie after all). When we questioned him, he really offered no explanation. Just that we could order it now if we wanted. To be treated in such an unwelcome manner in a business establishment was entirely disturbing. My daughter was mind blown! She literally raved about this place for 2 months and when we left, her disappointment was painful. We are just thoroughly confused as to why. If they were frustrated that we were late, why not be honest and let us know they were unable to hold the table.? Instead, we spent $240.00 for an extremely uncomfortable evening! My first ever yelp review, btw!!! As a Mom, to watch my grown daughter's enthusiasm turn to shock and disbelief was unbelievably disheartening! I cannot imagine any excuse for the owner and her personnel that could even begin to explain tonight's experience!

Naperville location…read more Bottom Line: The food hall version of this concept is not the same experience as the stand alone location, though the food quality is consistent. I sought out this location since I definitely liked the Glenn Ellyn, stand alone location (See my review for that location). I did not realize it until I got there but this location is located in a food hall, a part of the H-Mart Asian grocery chain's delivery concept. The scaled down, food hall version, in line with, and surrounded by the sights, sounds, and aromas of a great but distracting variety of Asian food offerings, distracts and dilutes the impact of the distinctly different "Paris Baguette" concept (One of these things is not like the others). I will say that the food was good and I would say consistent with the stand-alone location; however, the highly eclectic mix of eateries, in an open food hall, obliterates the more authentic visual and environmental feel of a modern Parisian pâtisserie experience that is delivered by the stand alone store. In recently reviewing Paris Baguette's direct competitor and similar concept, basically across the street from this location, I opined that I would choose Paris Baguette if pressed to make a choice between the two; however, not In this particular instance/location. I get wanting to proliferate the name and concept in the market but, in my opinion, the food-hall version dilutes and detracts from the nice experience of the stand-alone store. If a stand-alone opens here or near, I would come back.

It was midday and I was feeling a little hungry too so I was glad to see that the pastry cases weren't completely wiped out and a couple of ham and cheese croissants looking just too good to pass up. Staff were all really nice and on top of everything. This is more of a grab and go location but you can definitely sit down and enjoy your drink or a meal at the shared food court seating if it's not too busy. The latte was a little too on the sweet side for me but the flavor was good. I would say the croissant was the highlight of this visit though. Perfectly crispy and flaky with a good amount of filling too.
