I had just been to my longtime dentist in may, and had had X-rays done at that time, so I knew my teeth were in good shape and I just needed cleanings. Lala insisted I get a full new X-ray panel that I had to pay $200 for. And after an hour in the chair I asked if we'd be doing the cleaning. The dentist came in and told me I had 3 cavities and deep gum pockets and ultimately wouldn't do a cleaning and gave me a referral to a periodontist. That didn't feel right so I left. After posting a review about this experience the office manager called and offered to refund the amount of the X-rays, which I would have been reimbursed through my hsa anyway, to take down my review, which I agreed to, and which is why I give the two stars. I upgraded my insurance plan to the regular ppo plan and went to Montclair dental. X-rays were covered and after about 10 minutes the dentist came in and told me my teeth and gums both looked great. They did the cleaning and told me they'd see me in 6 months. I suspect the dentists under the USA plan have to find other ways to generate income, and highly recommend paying the higher premium for legitimate dentists where you will ultimately get better care and pay less in the end.

Now that I can feel the area with my tongue, it's as smooth as if there was never a filling. This particular filling seems to "fall out" every 5 years or so and from previous dentists the spot has always been rough enough to feel it. And time seemed to go by quickly. A GOOD day at the dentist! Never thought those words would find there way into my thoughts in that order :-) Never has the process of re-doing the filling been so smooth. Dr. Ko communicated to his assistant each part of the process and how they would proceed. I never felt a bit of pain which , again is not normally my experience with previous dentists who were fine dentists. The text reminders were nice as well and the staff up front and by the Dr's side are all A+. Glad I'm a patient here.

She fell getting from the car into her wheelchair out in the parking lot. Her caregiver explained the issue. Mom had a bloody scraped arm. She made it into the office but late. I feel like I have to be hyper-aware just to avoid being pushed into aggressive treatments (like a crown that turns into a root canal). But Dr. Shin strikes the perfect balance between holistic care and traditional dentistry. She focuses on healing and prevention rather than jumping straight to intervention. Everything is explained clearly, and I always feel like a partner in my own care. Honestly, if I had found her sooner, I might've avoided a root canal altogether. For my kids - Dr. Shin is incredibly gentle and patient, especially with my 7-year-old who has a hard time sitting still. She doesn't push fluoride treatments, but to be clear, she's not extreme... just thoughtful and truly individualized in her approach. I also want to share that now Dr. Patel rejecting to accept me as a patient despite the fact she should be available for the emergency appointments and completely defensive and maybe even a little aggressive about discussing what happened. I might be wrong, but I had an impression, that in her last mail when I asked for the emergency appointment, because I'm still suffering from her "treatment" she tried to be sarcastic and even make fun out of this situation, which I think is so unprofessional and unacceptable for the doctor. Nevertheless, Dr. Patel, you asked me to avoid contacting your office unless it's emergency and I comply. I vowed not to go back to them, but when I had a dental emergency arise, I called them in pain and desperation. They were now rude to me, and told me they didn't want my business because they thought I was coming back just for the pain, not to be a regular patient. That might or might not have been true; my decision about whether to return long term was going to be based on how they treated me this time. I sure learned the answer to that question. I'm not happy about having to find a new dentist on short notice while in pain, but I guess I was going to have to find a new one anyway.
