My 89 yr old mom needed a new bridge and Dr Herrington took the time to explain everything that needed to be done and went above and beyond trying to create the perfect bridge for her. When I was small, my brothers and I would rummage through the toy chest after an uneventful dental appointment. We'd ignore the "one toy" rule and take as many as our five fingers could grab. Not sure why we allowed our morals to lapse, maybe we thought we deserved it after the torture that I associated with the dentist. Even with no cavities, the hygienist and dentist loved to berate me for not flossing. Well, now I've had the pleasure of being a patient of Dr. Herrington's for years. Last December, Ned Herrington turned over the reigns of his practice to his very capable son Matt Herrington. While I've only had two visits with him, it seems like he's continuing the traditions of his father and treating the patient with the outmost respect. My hygienist is the reason I go there, though. She's great. She's kind, patient, and very serious about her job (but has a sense of humor). The new computer system that helps the team make electronic charts is really effective. They can show you where you were last time and where you are today. This is great feedback for getting me to brush better and concentrate my flossing agenda. Only downside; they aren't part of my network. Still, their bills match what my network will pay. How's that for smart? If you're in the need of great dentist and don't have the desire for all the fancy distractions (cds, ipods, or DVDs) that other dentists need to take your mind off the pain, try out Dr. Herrington in Lafayette. Matt and his staff are the most friendly and welcoming people I've met in a dental office. After my dad retired from dentistry I tried about four different dentists and always felt the hard sell. I always felt like they wanted to pad my bill with services I didn't need. My dad referred me to Matt with only good praises. Matt is kind and professional . He has the old school integrity but is a younger dentist ( younger being mid 40's) which I feel is rare in most offices. I have thought about this long and hard. Perhaps something was lost in the translation when they were explaining to me how the billing is done or how generally the things are done differently in this office than in any other I've been in. I've been here twice. I went the first time to get a basic teeth cleaning. They did a thorough exam, and charged me $110. They did NOT clean my teeth, and I walked away feeling something didn't seem right. Second visit was about a year later (due in part because of work). I went in, we talked about the procedure they were going to do. I paid $140 before the procedure. I got my teeth cleaned, and he fixed a filling. While he was fixing a filling, he said there was another tooth he wanted to fix while he was in there. I didn't have much of a choice since he was already in there. After that visit, they wanted to charge me WAY more then what we had previously discussed, in part because of the "extra" work he had done, that we didn't discuss. I was sent a bill, and I requested a copy of what we had agreed on for the original procedure, and I never got that. I was disappointed to say the least. Even more so when they sent that bill to collections. Two thumbs down for sure on that move. This review is based on both visits. read more

Dr. Herrington is a fantastic dentist - believe me I've been to a LOT of them in my 30 years and I've never had anyone so thorough yet gentle and really polite about having to move my head around and so forth. The chair I was in was hydraulic so absolutely silent - a nice touch! Matt takes the time to explain - in detail - everything he's doing, why he's doing it and even the science behind it. Dr. Herrington has been our family dentist for 2 years since moving to Lafayette. He has treated our son (and us all) with kindness, dignity and respect. He is gentile while doing a magnificent job. I went in for an exam and a cleaning -- I never experienced a level of scrubbing like THAT before, wow (wow!). Both the hygenisist and he go at it. Seriously clean in a way that puts others to shame and I greatly appreciated the time, attention, and hard work they put in. Clean. He has been honest (we had some diagnosis from another dentist for work that turned out to not be necessary) and it is very, very clear that Dr. Herrington has only our best health in mind. He also takes lots of time to listen, and he explans things very clearly (I actually appreciate the education I've gotten). We are so very disappointed that our insurance has changed and so we will not be able to remain in his care. I would recommend him to family and friends without hesitation. read more

review a dentist? You must be kidding! My visit was fantastic. The entire staff was awesome. The billing was a breeze, same as my previous dentist. Dr. Herrington loves what he does. Explains everything as he goes along: courteous, professional,punctual, knowledgeable, and very intelligent. And get this. I recently saw him at church. We discussed an issue. When I got to my computer the next morning, boom! an email from him with the information. And 2 days later, a followup letter with the info. What??!!? Unheard of these days. Matt is a smart and honest dentist. When I first moved to the east bay, I saw a different dentist. Every time I saw that dentist, she told me I had multiple cavities. After this happened for the 4th time in a row, I came to Matt for a 2nd opinion before getting yet another filling. He told me I didn't have any cavities but that I had a crack in a different tooth and recommended that I get a crown. I guess my previous dentist missed that! He told me if I didn't get a crown, the crack would grow and I would probably lose the tooth. I didn't know who to believe at that point so I did nothing. Well, fast forward a year or so and the crack grew and became painful just as Matt predicted and I did need to get it removed. I should have listened to him!! The cavities my previous dentist said I had still don't exist. My whole family sees Dr Matt now. He's done a crown for my husband and is great with my young kids. read more
