Cute spot, quality stuff. I got the blue majik (spirulina) drink and it was delish. Pretty much what you'd expect. They do have hot tea for anyone wondering

Okay--I have fallen in love. I've been on the smoothie bowl kick, and let me tell you the Blue Lagoon bowl was the best I have ever had so far. Swell opened a few months back in Old Saybrook and it's been on my list. From when you first walk in, the vibes are calm and the beach theme is apparent throughout. It was very clean and plenty of seating. In the back of the shop, there was a small boutique with local artisan pieces like beach themed artwork, photography prints, jewelry, and other handmade goods. Everything was carefully curated to fit the space of the shop. One thing that I love about Swell is that their menu isn't overly complicated. They have a few signature bowls and smoothies, plus a create your own. They also have oatmeal/yogurt bowls, and toasts if you are looking for a more substantial snack. Fun fact, their granola is gluten-free! For drinks, they have tea and chicory coffee. The ladies that served me were wonderful and friendly. I ordered the Blue Lagoon smoothie bowl and the Orchard Peach Tea with black tea (there was a green tea option too). The Blue Lagoon bowl was very delicious! It had a gorgeous color from the blue majik blend base--a mix of coconut and spirulina. It was very smooth and a lot of coconuty flavor. The bowl was topped with granola, banana, pineapple, kiwi, chia seeds, and a drizzle of honey. The fruit was perfectly sweet and ripe. I've gone to other smoothie bowl places where the fruit was half frozen. My Orchard Peach Tea was huge! I got a large and it was a great decision since it was a hot/humid day. The tea had a subtle sweetness and a light peach flavor. I highly recommend and would love to try more of their tea. If you are in Old Saybrook or coming back from the beach, give Swell a try! They are open early for breakfast and stay open later. They are closed on Monday.

The location is large and spacious with ample seating. The menu appears to have a ton of great options. The staff were welcoming and helpful in my selection. I opted for the Pink Flamingo which had the cute swirls of pink and white color and it was fruity. I also tried the 188 Main which was delicious! It had an earthy flavor to it with the sprouts and the pesto was sooo good! My friend got the Beach Bum smoothie which was really sweet and fruity. They also ordered the East Toast which was sweet but not overbearing. To our surprise there's a cute little gift shop you can browse while waiting for your order.

Clean place, fruit is fresh and the service is fast to greet. Great seating area as well with barstools and table seating as both options.

Great selection of healthy food and smoothies, plus artwork from local creators Saybrook Swell just opened today, and it was HOPPING! Owner Kameryn King has put together a menu of healthy food, energetic vibe, brightness, and art, all under a single roof, check it out! I only had a smoothie (Beach Bum, delicious) but the acai bowls looked amazing, and the various toasted options smelled great... https://www.saybrookswell.com/

"bubbles through the ice" (Phish)…read more You may have a hard time finding Cuckoo's Hawaiian Shave Ice. It's not a brick and mortar store, its more like a mini three-wheeled food truck parked in the rear lot of "It's Playtime" - an indoor kids' playground and playscape. We saw zero signs directing us to its location -we just kind of knew about it from a Facebook post. Cuckoo's is owned by It's Playtime and is open more or less the same hours they are (roughly from 9-5). Because the cart sometimes goes off premises to an event, it's worth your while to call before you scoot over. Cups of shaved ice are sold in 2 sizes for $4 or $5. There had a ton of flavors including Blue Vanilla, Grape, Lime, Mango, Cherry,Tigers Blood, Pickled Mango, Lemon, Blue Raspberry, Banana, Sour Apple, Blueberry, Cotton Candy, Pina Colada, Cola, Pink Lemonade, Guava Passion Fruit,Li Hing Mango, Strawberry, Passion Orange Guava, Blue Bubblegum, and Cake Batter. You can trick out your shaved ice with a Snow Cap (for an extra creamy sweet texture), or Fairy Dust (glitter), or candies for half a buck or so more. No review of Cuckoo's would be complete without a glowing report on the young lady running the stand. Isabelle was delightfully charming, informative, helpful, and as sweet as the shaved ice she served up. We ordered a snow-capped small banana and a snow-capped small blue vanilla They totaled $10.21. As our temperatures hit the 70's and 80's, why not check out Cuckoos to cool off?
