If I could leave zero stars I would. The ONLY bright spot here was the sales person Miss Betty. She was very helpful and very sweet and understands customer service. The cashier Christina does NOT. She was very rude and condescending not only to me but also Miss Betty. That speaks volumes of the person they have working customer facing if they are jerks to their own co-workers. A size exchange the day after Christmas had me paying a dollar amount difference. They also asked me to call the person who bought them to get their last 4 digits of their credit card number. Why would anyone do that for a size exchange on very clearly never used shoes that are the latest style. Will not shop here again and would love to offer Miss Betty a job somewhere she is better appreciated. read more

This place is really the only one you can get your child's foot measured well. But the service is awful. The staff isn't very warm to children, the check in system is flawed and you're often skipped. For adults the staff is dismissive and walks past you while you need help. read more

I made purchases of children's shoes on a couple of occasions both before and since this business was purchased from the original family/owners that opened and built it up. There is now a difference in the service than what I received than in the past. I know service can be hit or miss at the department stores that sell shoes, even the higher end ones, but I had always got more from this store. We often visit Saxon's as one of the few true shoe stores we have seen in recent years. Upon entering the second floor, where the men and women shoes are located, can be found one of the largest displays of shoes I have ever seen. The shoe displays are supplemented by purses and a nice variety of socks for the more conservative and adventurous of visitors. Within each section is a decent sized selection of heavily discounted shoes from makers such as Echo, Born and others. Although not all sizes can be found for specific models, it is still reasonably easy to find a pair or two of shoes that will meet most needs. On this occasion, we found one men's casual and tennis shoe, as well as a woman's pair of boots. All for 50 percent off of the regular price there and for at least for one of them, what can be found on the internet as well. My issue with this store is service. It's not like they don't have enough employees on hand, it's just that in many instances they appear more interested in speaking with each other, than in serving a waiting client. Today was even worse, when the server wouldn't measure my foot, which resulted in my doing so myself. All in all, this is one stop we'll always make when searching for shoes, even with the understanding that some of the employees are only there to speak with each other. read more

Hmm... by the looks of some of the recent reviews, it seems like Saxon is desperately lacking in the customer service department. Thankfully, I did not experience that at all when I went this past week. Saxon used to be THE place to be when it came to buying back to school shoes. My parents would take me every year during the 50% off sale and I was free to choose tennis shoes and one pair of casual shoes. Now, it has come full circle because I have a little one of my own and decided to head into Saxon to check out their selection for toddler shoes. I didn't realize that their downstairs kids section has closed. Bummer. I was looking for 3 pairs of toddler shoes: sneakers, dressy, and sandals/water shoes. I found all three and then some! And for really reasonable prices being that it was during the sale. I think Saxon will be seeing a lot of us in the coming years because we also found out that my little guy needs an extra wide size shoe. I'm not sure of anywhere else that we can find shoes in extra wide! I had multiple interactions with them on the phone as well that were very pleasant. It's hard for me to even believe that yesterday was only my second visit to Saxon. The first time I went had to be at least 15 years ago -- definitely pre-Short Pump and also pre-fire -- and that visit kept me away. It was crowded, it was expensive and service seemed snooty. Yesterday, what brought me back was knowing they excel at carrying shoes for hard-to-fit feet. My nephew is a 12.5 wide or extra wide. I went in, signed in (yes, they get that busy), and sat down to wait for my turn, which came in less than 5 minutes. I didn't have my nephew with me, which was probably a blessing for the man, but he asked me what I was looking for, and I told him I wanted to see every tennis shoe in a 12.5 wide or extra wide. I knew that wasn't asking too much because it probably wouldn't yield many pairs since it's a certain type in a rare size. He asked me if I wanted to start with the sale items. Narrowed down even further. Why didn't I think of that? Yes. Yes I do! He brought out four pairs, I picked the nicest looking pair, he told me I could bring them back for an exchange or store credit if they didn't work, I spent less than $20 since they were 60% off, and I was out the door in no more than 15 minutes. The staff is very patient with the senior citizen customers and helpful to them. Senior citizens receive 10% off all regular priced items and 20% off all regular priced items during their birthday month. Saxon shoes part 2: September 2018. Still at it, with the terrible customer service. My fiancé and I walked in because I wanted to see if they had any shoes I'd like to wear on my wedding day. As I walked in, I felt myself questioning whether or not I just walked into a geriatric shoe store. Seriously. Their selection of shoes was limited to "comfort shoes", and men's. While I was browsing the selection of shoes for retirees, not one person even spoke to me.. or my fiancé. I just don't understand how this place is still turning a profit. My family and I had been loyal customers since Saxon shoes first opened at Short Pump mall. We have all purchased many shoes from this store. Had not been to the store in awhile due to the pandemic. My dad wanted a new pair of shoes and I told him I would get him a Saxon giftcard for Father's Day to be able to buy the shoes. I ordered a giftcard online to be mailed to me (unable to use their e-giftcard in stores, only online). The tracking number showed that a label had been created for the giftcard but had not shipped. I contacted the store and was told "it probably got lost in the mail. Happens sometimes" and my option was for them to mail out another (risk getting lost again/not making it in time for Father's Day) or coming to the store. I was leaving to go out of town but changed my plans to come back early so I could pick it up in the store on Father's Day. I was told to go to the front counter and the giftcard would be waiting for me there and all i needed to do was tell them my name. I came in on Father's Day (June 19th) and went to the front counter. The initial person I spoke to looked around and told me she couldn't find it. I told her it had already been lost in the mail and i need to pick it up today. I was told "if you could move over to the side so I can continue to help the other customers." As if I was not a paying customer and a complete inconvenience for this person. She called for someone else to come help me since she couldn't find it. The next woman looked at me and said "I don't know what you want me to do about it" since they couldn't find it and walked off. Few minutes later she came back with a giftcard and handed it to me, again as if I was a complete inconvenience to the workers making them look for a giftcard that i had already paid for and was already lost once. I get out to my car and look at the giftcard and it has the wrong name and also the wrong amount. I paid for $100 giftcard and this one said $25. I walk back inside and show the same rude woman that it has the wrong name and wrong amount on it. She rolls her eyes at me and again walks away. She comes back telling me that my ONLY option is to purchase ANOTHER $100 giftcard, but she cannot refund my money for the initial giftcard. She claims that she and no one else in the store can help with online orders. Why would you have no one in the store who can help with this?? She tried to make a few calls to i guess someone who could maybe help but couldn't get through to them. She finally says "i wish i could help you but your only option is to buy another giftcard." 1. Why would I buy another giftcard when I already paid for one that is has now been misplaced twice? 2. After being treated so rudely why would I ever shop here again? 3. After going completely out of my way and driving to the store and making a trip there because my card was "lost" in the mail, why would I pay for ANOTHER giftcard? 4. How do you not have someone at the store who can help with online orders and why can your employees not help out a paying customer?? I call the next day after this event, obviously quite angry. I was told "I don't know why they couldn't find the giftcard, it was in the safe. I know it was there because i put it there." Two people looked in the safe and claimed that the only giftcard in there was the one with the incorrect name and incorrect amount. I am also unsure why no one can own up to a mistake and apologize for the significant inconvenience rather than pointing fingers at everyone else. Absolutely terrible customer service. Myself and my family will never be back. I have been told my money will now be refunded. It is so sad how an establishment can care SO LITTLE about costumer service. Haven been going to Saxon shoes both in Richmond, VA and more recently in Fredericksburg, VA for many years. I have to say that I am surprised about some of the comments about the service as they have continuously been some of the best support in customer service that I have experienced. Far better than the big box/dept stores. The shoe line is very up-to-date with a wide variety of styles and designers -- many of the latest and greatest. The prices are higher because they carry higher lines of shoes. I believe this has been Saxon's niche as they focus on their market as a medium to high end shoe store. As some have noted, they do give military and I believe a discount on your birthday month. Don't mistake not hovering over your back for lack of service. I find a shoe and haven't had a hard time getting the support -- quite the opposite from what I am reading. Saxon's is a favorite store for me ....and I'm a weekend shopper from Southern MD, so it is worth the drive and a stop to see what the latest styles are. read more

I had a wonderful experience a couple of weeks ago selecting dress shoes for an upcoming wedding and boots for the upcoming winter. I found that the staff was eager to place me with a sales person immediately. I noticed that the staff was striving to get all customers who were waiting placed with sales associates. The gentleman who was assisting me wanted to walk me through the selection and purchase to the end... even though everyone was very busy. He took the care and time to place a special order for me. It was difficult fitting my feet... He was patient and courteous and continued to bring other shoes out for me to try. When my special order arrived a couple weeks later, a store associate called me to advise that my shoes had arrived! I, too, have shopped at Saxon's most of my life. We took our children to Saxons for proper shoe fittings years ago. I have always found that they strive to maintain the highest form of excellence in retail shopping and sales. Due to the current historically low unemployment rate, all retail establishments are facing difficult times with staffing associates. The labor pool is practically nonexistent. I am quite impressed with my recent excellent and lovely customer service experience. I believe that Saxons is striving for the highest form of excellence in their store. I believe that sometimes there are periods of difficulty with every retail business... The enduring establishments seek for immediate solutions to these opportunities. If they have experienced a rough period In the past, clearly they have corrected it. I highly recommend saxon shoes for all your shoe shopping needs. Saxon Shoes surpasses all others in their comprehensive and epic high quality inventory and fittings and specialty solutions. Today I took my 7 year old daughter to Saxon Shoes. We waited 1.5 hours to get the famous 'shoe fitting' at Saxon. First step is they measured her foot, and referred us women's. There has to be a better way to manage this...it shouldn't take 1.5 hours for your staff to fit 4 customers. Since my wait in kids didn't count in women's, here We go to find a new sales person. The staff in women's seemed to be annoyed that he had to fit a young girl. She left your store ready eyes thinking there was something wrong with her 'wide feet'. Across the board, the staff at Saxon is unfriendly and rude. Every time that I have been there they rarely have the shoes we want in the size we need. So unimpressed. My advice to all Is to buy your shoes somewhere else and skip the rude staff, the long wait, and the BASIC shoe selection. Buy your shoes anywhere but here. read more

Congratulations Saxon Shoes, you have replaced the now defunct Ukrops as the most overrated store in the area. Once again, I'm missing the fascination with this place. I've been here two times thinking that my experience the previous time was a fluke only to have it validated with the next visit. The first time, my kid & I walked into the stock room & started to look for the shoes he wanted to try on because the sales people (who weren't busy) were standing around waiting on no one. Know what happens when you are somewhere you shouldn't be?--you get service. Did not buy anything because they didn't have the size in stock so I ordered from Zappos. I don't know what possessed me to give this joint another chance but I did. I should have turned around when I saw the wall devoted to the environmentally unfriendly plastic shoes (Crocs) and the wall that looked like Vera Bradley projectile vomited but I didn't so I waited for someone to help us. Well my limit is 10 minutes if you're not busy & they weren't so I got the foot measuring tool & measured my kid's foot & then proceeded to take pics of the shoes that he liked and left. As we were walking out, someone said, "Did you find what you needed?" Are you kidding me? I'm leaving empty handed & irritated what the heck do you think? Saxon claims to great service, but they've yet to show that to me--I'm not sure if it's because I'm not walking in there sporting a workout skirt or Lily Pulitzer but the last time I checked, my money spends as well as those who they deem worthy of their attention. And while I'm all for supporting local businesses, that doesn't mean I'm going to spend my money for mediocrity. Suffice to say, I'll stick to Zappos--now that's what I call service. read more
