We went here for soccer cleats for our kids based on a recommendation from our neighbor. The building was like a barn house from the outside. When you went inside, the selection didn't look like a huge sporting goods place but it ended up having everything we needed. The man who worked there helped us with picking out cleats for our 9 year old daughter and my 6 year old son. He was great and helped make sure that the cleats worked out well for both of them. We then asked about soccer shorts for my daughter and a lady who worked there found 3 additional shorts whereas we only found 1. Everyone was so nice and made the whole experience really great. The best part was the cleats were only $35 a piece! We think it was because the kids were not picky with what they got or the color/design. Great local sports shop! My BF needed a new soccer ball and bag so we decided to go here instead of Dick's or another major brand store. I didn't realize how big it was inside! They have a ton of products to choose from and it's 2 stories. We went like 20 minutes before they closed, so not many people were in there. They have every sport from football, field hockey to gymnastics in there! The staff wasn't too talkative but we went in 20 minutes before closing so I don't blame them. But there was an older gentleman, who did ask us if we needed help with anything. I definitely recommend coming here for all your sports needs and I'm all about supporting local RVA shops! read more

This is a wonderful local store with the sweetest owners. My son was fitted in cleats shortly before closing and noticed he had left his toy in the store on the way home. I called and spoke with one of the original owners, (they're celebrating 50 years!) she located the toy for us and brought it out after closing time. For me what set them apart was how knowledgeable the staff is regarding each sport. I can promise you that you will be talking with people who have been in the sport, who know what products are truly in demand and high quality in each, and who know how to fit you/your child properly. I didn't realize it early on, but taking the time to have them walk you through a fitting makes the sport so much more enjoyable for the kids. We got there fifteen minutes after they closed, just as the owners were walking out. They let us in and got us the belt and were so kind. Disco Sports is pretty much Richmond's only locally owned full-service sports equipment store. Here you'll find some shoes, some sports apparel, some Under Armor stuff, some swim suits and some sports equipment. I bought goggles and a swimsuit here when I wanted to swim at my gym. Along with sports equipment, Disco Sports has a great selection of team-specific gifts. There are hats, sweatshirts, T-shirts, glasses, coolers, car decals, seat covers and all kinds of fun stuff in a variety of teams, both national and college. I've come here more than once to find Christmas gifts for guys and they've always got something, even for smaller or more obscure schools. The staff is very friendly and will go out of their way to help you find what you're looking for. This store used to be on Three Chopt Road, but moved to a larger location in an old Darryl's restaurant, making for kind of a weird interior since they didn't change it too much. In any case, it's a good place to go for sports stuff, especially if you like shopping local. read more

Needed very last minute assistance with some baseball uniforms. I inquired over the phone with Alex and Jacob because I needed plain uniform and they brainstormed with me to get what I needed. When I arrived to see what they had dug up in old inventory....the service continued to get better as they went back and forth to check inventory to make sure it was perfectly what I wanted. I went to numerous locations beforehand and should have just gone here as it took a 5 minute phone discussion and 10 minutes in store. This was also 5 minutes before closing and they could have very easily just said "no we don't have that". Great to see this type of attentive and ABOVE and beyond customer service and also truly listening and engaging to my needs. The employee and manager both without hesitation catered to my needs, and I am grateful to see a shop with these qualities. Thank you and will tell everyone!!! Every year our swim team has went through Disco Sports to get our suits and caps we have issues. I've had to drive multiple times back and forth to the store just to be rudely confronted by Karen or another person working in the swim department. They are very unorganized and I can never get an honest answer from management, just blowing smoke to get you out of the store. I don't understand how they can stay in business with so many problems. It seems the owners of this family owned store don't want to change or get rid of their poor employees because they're family. read more

Whenever I hit one of the bigger chains they never have what I want. Disco always does! Even if the sport isn't necessarily in season they always keep a little bit of everything on hand. I was able to get what I needed here (JMU sweatshirt for my daughter); the low rating isn't about the merchandise. I accidentally overheard a guy in the store using profanity, presumably an employee. He wasn't wearing a uniform, but he seemed to belong to the store (talked as though he was) and cursed a few times during a short conversation with another customer. It was not loud and I was clearly not intended to hear, but people bring their kids to shop and it seemed inappropriate and deeply unprofessional. Despite this episode, they have had great customer service whenever I visit. read more
