Oh, please say it ain't so…read more We've been hearing the rumors of a closure for years, but now it just seems true. They've published a final date and it's about a week away. This gem of a restaurant is going to go away forever. The rumor is that it's going to be knocked down along with the cottages next-door. This was our farewell visit, and it was one of the best experiences. It started when we arrived. The valet's don't function here anymore and so we had to self park our car. But the view of the bar right when you walk in the front door was, again, stunning and so the first picture I took of the restaurant last night was that view . The wind was blowing, and so the view out the window was of some of the biggest waves I've ever seen at Lake Tahoe. Now mind you it's the Sunday of Presidents' Day weekend and the bar was absolutely jammed. It arranged from people wearing a tie to people just coming off the slopes. One man even said to me, because I was the guy wearing the tie, that he had never seen a tie at Tahoe before. It's important to know that we arrived purposely early to have a cocktail and enjoy the bar. We were fortunate to be patient and had our party of four enjoy a house old-fashioned. It was handcrafted, featured a rye whiskey, and more than one of the four people in our group really where marked about how tasty it was Onto dinner and what a meal it was. I could go course by course and bite by bite, but I won't put you through that. Let me just say that we enjoyed a shared wedge salad, the Aji, tuna appetizer, the muscle appetizer, a bottle of Oren Swift zinfandel, the Chilean Sea by us, the braised short ribs, and two of us had the ribeye. We also had the flight of sauces. I just need you to know that nobody had any complaints about anything other than not having enough room in their stomach to finish what we had ordered. We also enjoyed a complementary dessert as one of us was celebrating a birthday on this particular night. Now, just a brief word on the service. We were never wanting for water, Our plates and glasses were cleared appropriately, the Sommelier did a fantastic job refreshing our wine and describing it to us and our waiter demonstrated a quality sense of humor that we enjoyed. When you consider everything that happened last night, you end up telling a story of a great dinner that will be remembered for a long time. We were able to enjoy the restaurant that we've been going to for decades one last time we got to mourn the loss of this legendary spot. And we got to do it with great food, great pictures, and laughs. Normally, I like to conclude my reviews with a commitment to come back to the restaurant. This time I can't make that commitment, we won't be back to see the Lone Eagle Grill again.

Really nice lakeside restaurant across from the Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe. You have to cross the…read morestreet outside in the cold or get a ride but it's a short walk. Beware on cold nights when the walkways are icy because we nearly slipped both times going there and coming back on some black ice. Made a reservation about 4 days before for 530pm after a day of skiing and I'm glad I did because that time slot was sold out when we checked the day of. We were seated at a window seat with a view of the lake before it got dark which was another plus to an earlier reservation. It seemed like they seated all the patrons with young kids or babies in the same area which was a little interesting. We ordered two kids meals: king salmon and steak. My kids really enjoyed everything that came with their kids meals, including the fruit cup, ranch salad, and the vanilla ice cream at the end. The salmon and steak were nicely portioned and cooked well. We ordered the elk and the sea bass. For $62 it was disappointing the elk doesn't come with anything else whereas the sea bass came with some bok choy and rice. Both were good and cooked well. I'm glad I tried the elk which I've never had before and is a special they are known for. Beer selection was decent as well and we liked the pale ale we ordered. The baked table was huge and pretty good. Kids enjoyed their vanilla ice cream. Nice dinner after a long day of skiing with a higher class feel inside which was a good day to end our Sunday vacation evening away. The servers were nice and I appreciated that she would have let us order 1 kids meal for our kids if we had wanted to. Glad we did order 2 kids meals because the kids ended up eating both in the end because the food was good.
