Very cool, interesting finds for less. Decent, good quality selection of clothing, books, and movies. While books are a little expensive here, clothes can be $3 or more so they're a little cheaper than some other thrift stores.

Bought 6 placemats in perfect condition for $3

Cut throat atmosphere. Flippers everywhere, attacking carts and racks before things get put on the floor. Used to be good, but not anymore.

Very reasonable prices there. Cheaper prices to buy clothes whatever job your working at involves getting your hands dirty.

On my most recent trip I used their public restroom and it was pretty gross, quite dirty. This needs some serious attention guys.

I had a highly dissatisfactory experience with MACC Charities. The worker I spoke with (Shan non)…read morelacked empathy and there was a sense of her gaining satisfaction in her efforts to humiliate. She was unsupportive and verbally tried to discourage me from my life's aspirations. She went so far as to pretended to be an expert in a field she is not, all in efforts to derail. I asked her not to speak to me in a condescending manner, and she continued to abuse her false sense of power. I reached out to this organization during a time of need and was told by the worker that they don't "do hand outs". That if I was a worker for a company instead of being self-employed or unemployed (with no UE benefits), they'd have helped. In other words, they try to bait people into mediocrity and don't help those who need help. It's also been brought to my attention that their employees are not reflective of the population they supposedly serve (ie: lack of staff diversity). Perhaps they need to be audited to ensure their funds are being appropriately allocated, and ensure fair business practices. I discourage businesses from investing in or with the MACC organization. I also advise that their employees be mandated to take (and pass) unpaid sensitivity training and do mandated volunteer work in urban communities so they can gain perspective. I advise you donate, invest or partner in an organization that's more customer centric in their approach to humanity.

God forbid that they have to clean the shoes themselves if you bring in some heat for their stoves. It's a decent service, the only game in town, but the building is at the top of a mountain overlooking Hartford in the ruin section of town, so I think there is so much thrill involved in working there that they get ahead of themselves and play the part of something that they're not, which kills the whole vibe. Some of the shoes I see in there though put me through a loop and make me wonder who also comes to this store and why. It is a big digital business but the grits and gravy of it all vs. what you get out of the experience are up in the air. Great place to start sneaker collecting, terrible place to have to resell on a VERY casual level, and if I were to "officially" level up to 2 star shoe reseller, I would call them out for some sort of preppy fashion prejudice on some set that doesn't exist. I would rank this store's value as poor to good people, and good to bad people, similar to calling the ying-yang a square. But they are now a competitor in this tiny market so I will remain diligent in basing my entire perspective of reality on moisture levels, minor staining, overall value, as well as overall vibe. Don't get mad get even! I will continue to talk about the value of this company until the value Check Mark goes green among the service and selection.

Amazing. Until…read morerecently, I hit up thrift stores in Massachusetts. A few in Springfield, one in Westfield...they were okay. Every once in a while, you'd find something. This one? Not only did I have an ARMFUL of clothing to try on the second I walked in the door, but EVERYTHING (except the green ticketed items) was 50% on Wednesdays. I ended up spending under $40 and walking away with two huge bags of treasures that included four pairs of shoes, some great outfits and some housewares. Not only was the stuff there amazing and cheap, but the workers were so nice and friendly, as were the customers. I don't normally talk and joke with people when I shop, but I did here. The only thing that keeps this store from getting all five stars is the fact that it only had one changing room. I had a cart full of merchandise and felt badly that I was holding people up (even though I only tried on four things at a time and let others go in between, I did have a LOT of items--and it would have been nice to really take my time when trying things on instead of rushing.) Also, while this is not the fault of the shopkeepers in any way, but...doesn't anyone with GOOD music taste donate their records to charity? It's all Barbra Streisand and Mitch Miller and the Gang. Give me some Tom Waits, dammit.
