A couple years ago I purchased my first longarm (used) here and the support they gave me as I was learning was amazing. I trust their support and service so much I have decided to buy a brand new Bernina Q24 longarm from them and the entire process has been wonderful. This is a very expensive machine and a difficult decision to settle on, but they gave me more for my trade in than I expected AND sold me the Q24 the low advertised sale price AND got me 0% financing for 5 years!!! At one point in this process I became bad tempered and needed to apologize. Bailey treated me with so much grace and kindness. She helped my embarrassing reaction to a simple misunderstanding smooth right over. This is an amazing team and their customer service is exceptional. My 16-year-old son took his brother serger to SAVE STORES for a basic repair. After several delays we finally got it back and was charged $267.92 for the repair. The machine originally cost $228! When I confronted them and ask why they would charge a kid more than what the machine is worth knew they shrugged their shoulders and blew me off. My experience was similar to that of others who have left reviews of less than satisfactory experiences. I brought my machine in because it was skipping stitches in heavier fabric I was using and I had exhausted all the troubleshooting options I could think of. They wanted to $160 worth of work (on a 30 y/o machine I paid $70 for), and told me that it still probably wouldn't fix the problem I was having with it not being able to handle heavier material. They tried to upsell me to a $500 machine. I brought my machine to another shop in town, where they recognized that it might benefit from a service but that it was okay as is. They sold me a different presser foot ($25) that fixed the issue of skipping stitches, and I'm still quite happy with my machine. They were courteous and polite here, but they had little interest in working with me to solve my problem within my budget and were more concerned with trying to sell me something new. read more

2 years ago I had what I thought was good servicing of my machine. Last year was horrible. I was impressed with the fact they give you a one-year guarantee. I made 2 trips back there this year and within a short while my machine was kept getting worse, sounded like a threshing machine and trouble with the thread feed. Each time I went in it was all about pressuring me to purchase a machine or buying the thread they sell. I finally found honest and reliable service at Quilting Delights. A Great Resource for Sewers of All Abilities I initially went to Save Stores to view a sewing machine I had researched online. I wanted to see it in person before I pulled the trigger. It was a very basic model but a few notches up from my years ago Amazon (very basic machine) that gave me no end of headaches. I met Jimmy there and he took the time to show me the machine I had researched and I still loved it. He confirmed it was a good brand and didn't try to upsell me on another machine. Matched the online price so I didn't need to order online. I did purchase a plan that I believe was around $80 that included extended warranties (I understand they are the warranty servicer for the machines they sell) and sewing machine lessons for life for me and my family. Which later turned out to be a real bargain (for the lessons, no warranty needs yet). I later returned for a serger and there was a vintage serger that had been tuned and was being sold for a reasonable price. It felt solid and has become a workhorse for me. I probably took that serger in about five times for help rethreading (user error) and two classes till I could finally thread the machine myself. Hallelujah. They never charged me for their assistance nor made me feel uncomfortable returning when I still didn't have it figured out. Last week, I recently purchased an coverstitch machine to work with knits. Jimmy spent almost two hours showing me a used Janome and then a brand new Brother. We really talked about how I was going to use it and which one would fit my needs better. Although the Janome had more features and looked like a solid build the newly launched Brother coverstitch seemed more user friendly and a better start to my coverstitch experience. Jimmy took the time to make sure it was freshly threaded (and I did it myself) before sending me home. I was confident when I pulled out the machine out of the box that it was ready to start stitching. When I was getting skipped stitches I just thought through everything they taught me and reviewed every thread and realized one had fallen off a hook. Yeah! I solved it myself. I'm so grateful to this company for understanding that tools often need instructions. So I highly recommend adding on the warranty with classes. They have a number of classes between both stores. This is a story about fortune, disappointment which then leads to a supremely happy ending. A friend of mine was moving and said she had a sewing machine- that had been sitting in its zip-front case for the 15 years she'd been living in this apartment. She'd never opened it. She had no idea what I'd find. What I found was a delightful probably 80s era metal (heavy!) New Home machine. I plugged it in, and the light bulb still worked. Very promising! It did sew but it was obvious that this machine needed a MAJOR tune up and inspection. After looking at Yelp, I'd decided to come to Save Stores and Jimmy Calvert was the technician who assisted me as soon as I came in. I cannot say enough about him. He looked over my machine, acknowledged that the reverse was broken, there would be inside elements needing replacing and there appeared to be a major internal part that was quite likely broken- and likelihood of finding a replacement part was, well, none. So he gave me a quick tour of the newer machines that are super-light and have computer touch screens and have very fun embroidery. I was enthralled, but the point of my visit was, "Hey- I was just given a free sewing machine. Dropping $200-$400 isn't in the plan." He said they were about 2 1/2 weeks out for repairs, and I took my claim check, wondering what my next step would be if it was indeed a lost cause. Three weeks later I received a phone call saying my machine was fixed. I thought surely that was an error, and that I'd return and they'd say, "Oh, sorry- that was for another Kristi. Yours is indeed ready for sewing machine heaven." But... I was wrong! Jimmy met me again and with bright eyes showed me my machine, now fully functional, tuned up, and the part that had seemed so broken on the outside turned out to be a loose bracket once the machine was opened. For $109 and change the machine has been completely cleaned, tuned, oiled, and threaded (so I can use my sharpie and draw direction arrows until I'm used to it) with a sample showing some of the stitches they'd demonstrated. Ever the gentleman, Jimmy took my machine out to the car and we even shared some moments discussing our mutual love of fibers and fiber art and knitting. I'll plan to return for regular maintenance and highly recommend them. read more

Not a happy camper! I have been in the Oregon City store a few times off and on but I left wondering why I would ever return. When the sales people were trying to sell me a machine, they were helpful and nice. I ended up buying a the same brand new machine for about half price. I never mentioned that to them, but every time I have returned, the sales/customer service people have been down right rude, indifferent, and seemed bothered to have to assist a customer. I think I have subjected myself to enough..I'd like to support local businesses but I'm quite sure that I can get all my needs online cheaper without the condescending tone...and the online store will probably have my item in stock. It seems as though the items I need are never in stock. read more

Never thought I could leave a sewing store feeling so greasy. I only came in to have my current machine tuned up, and the salesman there try to convince me not to tune it up but that I'd be best off buying a new machine. I was agreeable to see the most affordable models, and told him so ... but he then in to a lengthy spiel, trying to sell me a new model that was WAY out of my price range, though I stated multiple times I wasn't interested in quilting or advanced embroidery features. Awkward turtle. I eventually broke out of my northwest shell to tell him I was done, this was wasting my time and I was going to leave. He didn't listen to me - I felt disregarded, the man ignored my requests only to point me to the most expensive modes that didn't suit my needs AT ALL, then mansplaining the features and uses of a sewing machine, and using car sales type tactics to try upsell to me. I left feeling frustrated and dirty. No thank you - I happily took my business elsewhere. read more

I took my embroidery machine in for a routine service. It was working great but hadn't been serviced in over a year. When I got the machine back it was shredding thread. I call and talked to the Tech. He said to bring it back and they would look at it. I was told when I took it back that my bobbin was wrong and the thread I was using was bad. Needless to say....this is the same bobbin and thread I had been using for over a year with no issues. I asked them to let it sew for a bit so they could see what it was doing. Thank Goodness it shredded the tread while I was there. They kept it again for a week and charged more money for parts. I brought it home, made a few things and started having more issues. I have given up and took it to another company. They just called and say it needs to be serviced and named the same items that need to be replaced - which are the ones that Save Store just replaced. I paid over $300 at Save Stores for a machine that isn't working. The new place is charging $149 w/parts. I won't be doing business here again. read more

I have been very impressed by the staff at the Or City Save Store. They genuinely want to have customers do well with their machines. I was in their "Machine Mastery" class and one lady was really struggling at first. One of the staff pulled her aside with her machine and sat with her one on one to teach her on a busy Saturday. Several years ago, I purchased a Brother Duetta 4500 sewing and embroidery machine. This was not an inexpensive machine. I had it only a few months when the mother board blow out so they replaced it. I have had nothing but trouble from this machine. I keep taking into the shop and paying to have it fixed and then I would bring it home and within several days to a month, it would break down again. I tried to tell the owner that this machine was a lemon from the get go. In a little over a year, it has been in the shop 10 times. The last time it was it was supposedly sent to the Brother Factory for re-set. I was told it would be $50 but it was $330. I had just paid my annual service fee and parts replacement charges for almost $300. When I picked it after the Brother re-set, I found a small screw driver rattling around in the machine. It locked up again this week and I took it back to the Save Store. I was told that my service warranty was expired. It would cost another almost $300 plus parts to fix it. I took it somewhere else to be repaired. I was told my the new technician and saw for myself parts that should have been replaced a year or 2 ago and were still broken in the preliminary inspection by just removing the covers. I will not purchase another Brother machine and I will not purchase anything from the Save Stores. read more

I'm very impressed with the quality of service at Save Stores. I took in a vintage sewing machine that was badly out of timing in all ways. I maintain my own machine and generally know how it works, but this problem was beyond me. They were able to explain to me exactly what was wrong and what needed to be fixed. When I picked up my machine five days later, the stitch sample looked so perfect, and when I brought it home to try it out, it ran better than ever before, even after a servicing at another popular sewing machine repair in town. Well, I have now been here a couple times since November and the last time I stopped in the lady at the front desk called me by name! I honestly couldn't tell you what her name is, so the fact she remembers mine after meeting once before for just a few minutes is quite impressive. Definitely goes to show they pay attention to their customers. Not only that, but my roommate (male) called in to ask if they carried a power cord for my machine, didn't mention I would be coming in or anything... But sure enough, the moment I walk in the door I was met with "Hey Rachelle, are you here to pick up your power cord? I have it waiting right here at the front desk for you." So, clearly she remembered what embroidery machine I had, as well. This place reminds me of back home in the small town I grew up in... That level of service you only get because everyone knows everyone... Or at least, I THOUGHT small towns were the only place you could find that... Great store! read more

I have been dealing with the Portland store for many many years and I can tell you it is like going to visit family they are kind,funny and honest. I never worry when my machine is with them...I bought my Brother 4000 from them and she visits regularly for her annual tune up...only one other time needed for a simple repair..these are great people cannot imagine going any where else...bought my daughter a machine from them too she has a learning disability and the sewing instructor took extra time to make sure she could safely and happily use her machine...again GREAT PEOPLE read more

Wow, I am blown away that this store has good reviews. I have bought a sewing machine and a vacuum here. Since then, I have found them to be incredibly unhelpful and only concerned with SELLING you on additional products. I understand that is their job, but so is customer service and that certainly does not seem to be there objective. The sales rep sold me a piece for my sewing machine that did not work for my application. I was very specific about what i needed and they were very certain that the sold item would work. It did not. I came to return it and they charged me a 20% restocking fee with an attitude. I will never buy from this shop again. I have been in the shop a handful of times since we made our large purchase on the machine and vacuum. Since then, the customer service has been horrible. Done. Good luck... read more

It was broken and they not only fixed it quickly, but they also offer a trade in deal so I can get a new one- which I will need very soon.
