Took my moms vacuum in to have it serviced cleaned out the filters replace they said 7 to 10 days. Told me the price my mother started calling at seven days. They said that they were not gonna be done until the 10 day mark. She called back at 10 days. They weren't gonna be done until the 11th day she called back the 11th day now it's 13 to 15 days. if you are running a business and you want to keep customers if you tell a customer a timeframe and it is not done within that timeframe. It is your job to reach out to the customer to say that it will be longer. You never did that therefore, we will not come back to you again. We will not recommend this company. Again. read more

In recent years, getting service has become a horrible process that we avoid if we can help it. My most recent visit will be my last. The repair person yelled at me, literally threw things in frustration when I asked for the motor repair to be done under warranty. I left shaking and scared. Danielle at the rental desk is friendly and knowledgeable. If you're going to rent a steam cleaner - they stock two - know that a little of solution goes a long way. Pre-Covid my spouse took my vacuum to Stark's Vacuums for servicing. It wasn't that difficult to fix or clean the filter I was told. There wasn't a long wait time either. My spouse dropped off my vacuum. I waited the allotted time... and I sent him back to pick up my vacuum. My spouse said the technician friendly to him. There was a price that was quoted to my spouse when he dropped off my vacuum. It was basically painless... and the turn around time for the technician was less than two weeks. I was told that there were a few orders (vacuum that needed to be fixed) ahead of my vacuum. I recommend Stark's Vacuums. And, no... you can't drive East on this block of Southeast Stark Street... you'll have to drive East on Burnside Street. read more

Pretty incredible experience. We just moved cross country to the area and are temporarily in a rental house with carpets. Not sure when they were last cleaned and my wife is bonkers about that stuff. Stark's does carpet cleaner rentals, so I called them and talked to Barry, the world's most helpful man. (He also could reasonably present as Rob Lowe's brother or something.) I went on over to pick up the carpet cleaner, and he was very pleasant, and noted that I just wanna make sure I've vacuumed really well before we use it. I said that might be a problem, because I gave away my vacuum when we moved, and were hoping to go no-carpet in whatever home we end up in permanently, so had been avoiding buying a vacuum cleaner until then. Barry was super incredibly helpful about helping figure out my needs, and we tried so many vacuums. In the end, he was essentially like: "You know, what you should do is buy this super cheapo vacuum we sell. It's still actually pretty decent, but it's not really what you're looking for. However, it's really affordable, and you should just plan on not using it that much." The vacuums are also all sticker-priced a little higher because they include a Stark's service contract on them, but since I was buying a vacuum that I didn't intend to last, he was happy to just knock that off and make the vacuum even cheaper. In the end, the vacuum has actually been better than expected, the carpet cleaner worked great, and I had a phenomenal experience. Couldn't be happier. read more

I waited to post this but overall I am extremely disappointed. Vacuum was having suction issues. Brought it in, their turn around time was over 3 weeks. I paid $183. Was spoken down-to by multiple men working at the desk. Started using the vacuum which now gives off a putrid smell and tried to empty the canister for the first time since picking up the machine and now the mechanism is broken and I have to open it manually. Maybe this is just a bad location but I wouldn't go back and I recommend others not repeat my experience. read more

[SE 83/Stark store.] Excellent experience. Staff was friendly and patient explaining things, with ZERO sales-pitch pressure. And they are willing to price-match for competitive prices. It's tempting to buy a cheap vacuum from Walmart, but it's like a car, where if you "buy once: cry once" you'll be much happier in the long run and will save money in the long run while enjoying much better equipment in the meantime. The Riccar that I bought from Stark's absolutely crushes the Dyson and the Bissell that I had previously, in every way. (When you go in, try to go when Jennifer (the manager) is working - she is great.) read more

I called about replacing a cord on an older Eureka Mini Mate vacuum cleaner. Salesperson encouraged me to buy a new machine instead, saying repair would be $149 and new machine would be $150. I prefer to avoid the wasteful, environmentally destructive approach of replacing something that can be repaired, so took it in for repair. I was given the same quote and told it would take about 2 weeks. After 3.5 weeks, I called and left a message last week, and did not get a call back. I called again today and got someone who looked into it and did phone me back. Apparently they misdiagnosed and I would need a new motor, for which he said they could not get parts. He admitted his colleague "dropped the ball" in not informing me of status, then told me he could sell me a new one for $180. I informed him his colleague told me $150. He then made it seem like I was talking about the repair, not replacement, and quoted me $160. Finally he said he'd honor what his colleague quoted me, but he's been selling those machines for $179, not $150. You decide if this looks like good business practice to you , but I think, especially given some of the other reviews, I'll be looking elsewhere for either repair or replacement of this vacuum cleaner. read more

First off I brought vac in for a repair and was pressured to buy a low end vac for 300. I stood firm on a repair. Vac was done and I took it home. Tried to use it and it's in worse condition than when I took it in. They won't look at it again. Worst service ever. Bad service. Bad products. Not one vac is on consumer report or has a decent review from a reputable source. Save your money and dignity. PS I bought vac from Sears to begin with. I swear they didn't give a rats ass about helping me cause they wanted a sale. You're been warned. Best to do research on another brand and store. My Starks going in the dump. You know you're all grown up when your idea of an exciting Sunday afternoon is browsing for, and purchasing, a fancy new vacuum cleaner. You know it double-so when you are so super excited to get home and vacuum. Yeah... right? So we have a house that sports both hardwoods (on the main level), and carpet (stairs and finished basement). To date our sucking solution has been a cheapo Dirt Devil upright that we scored at Home Depot or some place like that. It did an OK job of vacuuming the basement carpet, and the hose attachment (you know I love 'dem hose!) did a satisfactory job of getting into some of the cracks and crevices. But I just never felt like I was getting all of the dirt when I ran through it with the Devil. And when I tried to vacuum on the hardwoods with it, it would just kick dirt around. In short, it sucked, but it didn't suck quite enough. As I was standing on my stairs the other day, awkwardly trying to vacuum each carpeted step with an upright, I decided it was time to upgrade. I did my research online (like a good consumer) and picked some brands and price compared. Then, like a good Portlander, I took that information down to Stark's to shop local. There's not a lot going on in a vacuum store on a Sunday afternoon at 4pm, so it was the perfect time for me to get some great info from the salesman on all sorts of different options. I ended up settling on the model I had researched online, and the price was pretty much comparable with most online sites (maybe just a bit more)... but then came the bonus - he offered me the floor model... for $100 off. And he threw in a refurbished accessory that I really wanted for 50% off the original price. Bam. They cleaned the floor model up all nice and blew it all out with compressed air. I scored a vacuum that I wanted plus an accessory that I needed and got the whole mess all assembled and under full 5 year warranty for less than I could have found online... by a long shot. And then I went home and vacuumed. It sucked. In a great way. Stark's is a local shop, they're going to be the ones to service the machine should I need to do so under warranty, and they stand behind the products they sell (or at least they say so). Having been in business since 1939, I can only guess that they're not lying about those claims. So I guess I'm officially an adult now. Ugh. Well, at least I have really clean floors now. read more

But they broke ALL their own rules to impress us, and boy did they. My vacuum's extension wand broke after 6 years of faithful service. I like my lift-off vacuum and didn't want to buy a new one, so I went to Stark's in Montavilla for replacement wand. They didn't have one in the store, but offered to order one and advised me it would be a week to 10 days before it came in. After 3 weeks and mountains of dust balls throughout the house, I called to check if the replacement wand had arrived at their store yet and unfortunately the order had been misplaced. The salesman offered to reorder the wand and after waiting another 2 weeks, it finally arrived. To be fair, he gave me a 15% discount for "my inconvenience," but 5 weeks to get a simple replacement part wasn't acceptable. If I should need something replaced in the future, I'll take my chances and order it directly from the company online. PS. I swear that dust balls breed in the night and given a chance will take over hardwood floors in a matter of days. Our puppy had fun playing with them though, and eventually, they had migrated to just about everywhere in our home. We've since bought him some chew toys and he seems to have forgotten the fun of romping around in accumulated dust and dog hair. read more

Starks makes and sells masks for COVID-19 . They have amazing reviews on their site but I found that they choose not to publish bad reviews. Simply don't buy them. The biggest issue is that after two washes they still have a strong small that my child can't tolerate. The thin material over the nose that is supposed to stop fogging of eye glasses just flaps when you breath so it does not help and probably makes it less safe. If they had a nose clip it may help. The adjusters are nice. Finally there is no one to speak to with questions, concerns or request for refunds. Save yourself the $25 dollars and find another company. read more

I would caution everyone to go elsewhere to do business. Stark Vacuum on NE Stark is both unethical and lacks integrity. I brought in my old sears canister vacuum because the power head was not working. The person who helped (?) me checked it, told me the motor was broken and did a test to demonstrate this to me. He then proceeded to tell me the parts were on back order and Sears was going out of business so he wasn't sure they would ever come. The price he quoted was "it would cost around $200 to repair this if we even could get the parts." He then proceeded to show me new vacuum models from $479 to $700. I thanked him and left, then took it to the Kirby repair shop on NE Sandy. He proceeded to push the reset button that I forgot was there and it worked. I got a tuneup which my vacuum hadn't had infers for $60. So I was basically lied to at Stark Vacuum in order to make money off me. I WILL NEVER BUY A VAUUM FROM STARK. read more

I took my vacuum to Starks when it wasn't having great suction. They ordered a filter for me that it took 4 months to get in. There was no follow through from their staff so I had to continually be the one to call for an update. The same happened with a sewing machine I took in for service. read more

Recently purchased a Miele vacuum cleaner at Stark's Vacuums - Montavilla. I made two trips before deciding on which vacuum would be best for my needs. I spoke with Danielle both times. She was knowledgeable and very friendly. She answered all my questions and helped me narrow my search. I returned a few days later, after doing some online research, for a second time where Danielle gave me a demo and helped me confirm my selection. I couldn't be happier! I actually look forward to vacuuming......often! I was surprised that at a local mom-and-pop type store that their prices are the same as at Target, Walmart, etc. as well as I've recently learned they price match. Why wouldn't you buy from them!? Last April we bought a spendy vacuum from here. The salesman, Oliver, was very helpful. We were disappointed with the machine on several counts. The wand is quite short, whereas we are both quite tall. Neither of us can stand up straight after vacuuming the house. This seems like something the salesman may have noticed? Furthermore, the power head attachment became very finicky as the connector had worked quite loose in the socket. Out of desperation I went to Stark Vac in Tanasbourne. That salesman was also very helpful. He showed me an extension wand which was available for $62.95 and also showed me how to disassemble the connector unit and see if the bracket was broken. He assured me it would be covered under warranty if it was. Returning home I found that the plastic had indeed cracked but reseated the connector and tightened it in place, hoping that would do it. I went to the Stark St. location and asked to buy the extension wand. The counter guy said it was $74.95. I mentioned I had heard a different price, and he checked it out as $69.95. Fine, close enough. However, I go to sign the receipt and it reads $79.95 (?!?) When I questioned him about this he said, "Oh, I must have rung you up before I checked the price." BS. He offered to give me a box of bags for the extra $10. BS again. I insisted on a refund. Then I asked him about the broken bracket scenario and he said, "It would be covered -- unless it has been abused." Who or what exactly was being abused here?!? This location has lost my business. I am going to go in and make them fix every ding and scrape on the damn vacuum. I am entirely offended and shocked that such insolent people can make a living in this economy. read more

I needed some parts for a Dirt Devil vacuum along with a hose that wasn't available through Dirt Devil. I tried to order off their site, but Google Chrome kept alerting me their site was not secure; I.E., https only http, so I refrained from ordering. Larry the parts manager at this SE Stark Street Vacuum Cleaner Sales & Service locations was extremely helpful. He spent quite a bit of time with me concerning the ordering of parts for another vacuum, but so too making a custom hose for my Dirt Devil "Pet" model that I had purchased from Home Depot which did not prejudice his help; I.E., that I didn't buy the vac from them which would happen in other stores of this nature. In fact it's the best customer service I've had from any store in recent memory. Another impressive action on his part is that he called my home after several weeks to inform me the parts were in which is rare nowadays with a customer having to call a business a number of times to inquire about such which causes frustration. I'm a Ridgefield, Washington resident so its somewhat of a trip over there. I found out afterward they have an outlet in Clark County, just the same I'll make the trip to this SE Portland location knowing Larry and Josh are there to help me when I need such.
