I can't say enough about how great it is to work with these folks. The guys doing the work on pup property we're professional and had a great safety stand with everything they did. I just hope they don't talk about out property as "that house" when they refer to an impossibly difficult, never ending, pain in the "oh, that property" kind of way. SaveATree sent their Branch Manager, Trevor March, to my home right after I responded to their ad for involvment in caring for my PNW home landscape. Trevor identified problems with my existing Japanese maples and other trees and shrubs so that I can finally have my landscapers deal with them appropriately. He was also armed with his plant app so could inform me about any shrubs which are not necessarily within his tree expertise. His visit was enormously informative about how I proceed as a caring gardener with local PNW and other plants. read more

Sav a Tree sent a technician to do a deep root fertilization on a big leaf maple in my backyard. I let them know I would be out of town. I came home to find that while performing the service, they knocked over and dented a fountain, left it laying tipped over, and damaged a piece of expensive garden art. They also ripped the watering system out of a number of plants--it was hot weather, so one of the plants died. They purchased a company who had taken care of my trees for years, about a year ago. I am a very unhappy former customer. read more

We have been customers of General Tree Services for years. A tree they perform routine maintenance fell on our roof. We didn't blame them for the fallen branch that punctured our roof, we simply wanted an estimate to get the branch off our roof so that we can proceed with the repair. Greg Doering came to give us an estimate and he was rude, and wanted me to sign a proposal that did not have the totals we had discussed. I mentioned that I do not like to sign contracts that do not estipulate a value and he said: "Well, this is how we do it, if you can't sign it, then you should look for someone else". I asked again if that mean he didn't want to us to be repeating customers (Our oak needs treatments, and pruning, over the years we have spent over 10K on that tree) He said: "Do as you wish" This company also as per our recommendation "helped" a neighbor to deal with a fallen tree during last year's fires. They left the debris for weeks on the street. It took us too long to realize how expensive and incompetent they are. I just hope you don't make the same mistake as we did. read more

I am very impressed with General Tree Service! Brian did a walk-through of my property and explained what needed to be done for the health and safety of our trees. The General Tree Crew did a fantastic job pruning all of the Leyland Fir trees, Maple, and Douglas Fir. They also removed a dead tree in the front yard. The crew cleaned up after their work. It was a hefty 2-day job and the crew arrived exactly on time both days and were very polite and professional. Our trees look great! I highly recommend General Tree Service! read more

Although it's mostly the same employees, this company has been bought by a larger corporation SavATree. After accepting my recent quote, was referred to pay online in full before getting scheduled or having work completed. Didn't care for that new policy. The work to be done was near $1600 so I didn't proceed then. Soon after was notified I had an appointment. It worked so I kept it and was billed after the work. Which could only be paid online, can no longer give CC number over phone. Before the crew left, I asked them to remove one more branch off our oak I felt wouldn't make it through this winter, they declined and stated the bid was only for dead branches, this limb was within the diameter of our bid and had 3 leaves left on it hanging very low. Felt my request was reasonable. Anyways, chose General Tree out of loyalty, as I normally hop between them and another company. Not sure about future projects with them. read more

I just had my car damaged while driving on NE 15th by limbs being dropped onto the street from a job that General Tree Service was doing. The company had no flaggers out to control traffic. To top it off, they refuse to take responsibility for their negligence. read more

I have used this company for the past 15 years. We had substantial damages after the recent ice storm and of course, I called them. Greg came out and in the process of assessing the project tells me "by the way our prices have increased due to the volume of work from the storm". Well, they went up 40% "because we have to put off some previously scheduled work". I told Greg that I thought they were price gouging and taking advantage of our (and other customers) misfortune. I reminded him that we had been their ongoing customer for years and he advised that "he didn't own the company". Told him to leave, we had no interest in dealing with them. On the bright side, I found a competent service that did a great job at rates that were one half of the inflated hourly rate that General was trying to stick me with. Not a good way to treat a long term customer. Done with them! read more

General did a great job taking care of the 8 trees on our yard. They provided reliable advice on what needed to be pruned and what would just result in more work down the road. Honest and reliable, and their bid was half the price of others we received. They did a thorough job cleaning the site when they were done and all of our trees look great and are ready for spring! read more

We have just had two maples removed by General Tree and they did a fantastic job. Both trees were diseased and rotting and they felled them safely and quickly. Excellent cleanup and communications. The crew was on the job as promised and cleaned up each day as if they'd never been there. All the crew were courteous and friendly to onlookers. Wow! These guys know what they're doing! We had a 50-60ft, 80 year old weeping willow tree in our back yard that failed. Major rot throughout, and very close to our house. The crew came out for an emergency after one of the massive branches broke off and got the tree "safe", then came out yesterday to complete the job. This was a HUGE tree. The skills required to do this job were pretty demanding due to the close proximity to the house, and the rest of the back yard. The crew showed up on time and got to work. The clean up job was great. There are no branches, leaves, sticks or sawdust anywhere. I truly cannot say how impressed and pleased I am! read more

I had a similar experience to that of Pam M. We only needed a few trees trimmed for electrical service to start, and asked for three other relatively-small trees to be leveled and their stumps ground. I understood the quote for this work to be $840- a great deal. The trees were trimmed for the electrical lines, and the remaining work was to be scheduled on another day. The General Tree Service who had been my contact person suggested a day for the remaining work, and I agreed to it, but when I never heard back from the company, I had someone else (just my gardener) perform the remaining work. After the day I had agreed to (but had never heard back about), I received another bill for another $840. The stump grinding was never completed. I emailed the company asking about the second bill, and was told that my contact person no longer worked at the company, the stump grinding would be an additional $125, and the original quote had only included half the work. I did not have an actual quote to show them- only an email exchange with my now-missing contact person. So I ended up paying $1,680 for trees to be trimmed away from electrical lines and that's it- NOT a great deal. Very disappointed and frustrated, and out a lot of cash for not a lot of work completed. read more

I would not recommend this company. We had a very negative and frustrating experience. We requested a quote for stump/root grinding. I phoned the company to let them know that I wanted to use their service and DID NOT HEAR from anyone about scheduling an appointment. I arrived home from work one day to find someone in my yard getting ready to complete the work. I had NOT signed any paperwork or had ANY conversations about the work. I felt pressured into having the work completed when I should have sent the worker away. The work was completed but there were many large roots left which took us 4 hours to dig up. Our sprinkler system was destroyed and a drainage pipe was damaged. I phoned the original estimater to express my concerns and was met with a very "good old boy" attitude which was both insulting and condescending. My husband has left REPEATED messages with the owner of the company to discuss our negative experience but has NOT received a call back. I leave this review as a warning to other folks but also after we attempted to provide feedback to the owner. read more

I wish I could give these guys six stars. After 3 recent wind storms we had to make the sad decision to take down a large problem tree in our yard. It was in a very tricky position, very close to our house and neighbors garage and surrounded by service wires. The crew that came were absolutely first rate, led very skillfully by Eric. They did an excellent job and were both friendly and efficient. The whole experience was good, from the competitive bid provided very promptly by Kevin to the very creative scheduling by Dave in the midst of the worst wind storm in 10 years. They have done things for me like removal of a large Deodar Cedar in a tight back yard, building a rock retaining wall, landscape clean ups, planting small trees, and a turf care program keeping my lawn looking nicer than most in my neighborhood. I have been using General Tree Service since about 1987 for monthly service on my landscape. I have seen many changes through the years. The person overseeing and doing most of the planting on my property for many of those years was Larry. He retired this year. They just removed a sick 60' tree from the backside of my property and did a very good job. But I have noticed some things have not been kept up as well during the past year as in years before. I think this is due to transition of personnel and me needing to communicate with the new people in charge of my account. That being said they could be doing a better job letting me know when personnel change and keeping the lines of communication open. I am hopeful things will improve this summer. In the past I would have had no hesitation to recommend this company to others. Now I am in a "wait and see" mode. I am optimistic that they will keep things together and that the quality of their service will continue to be dependable and noteworthy. I will also add that after I wrote this review, it turned out that Greg under bid the removal of the tree by more than 100%. General Tree Service is splitting the difference with me and I think that is a fair and righteous way to treat the customer. read more
