Cut to: 6:45 am on Friday morning, to a desperate ringing doorbell from a kind UPS driver who let us know that a huge chunk of our beloved cherry plum was in the road, blocking one lane of our fairly busy street. Panic at the driveway! My lobster did a quick search and found Peter's Tree Service. Peter showed up within 15 minutes, as indicated in the phone call. I was surprised when he pulled up in a small car and thought maybe he would be calling someone else, but, like Hermione's bag with an undetectable extension charm, he produced a small but effective chainsaw and made quick work of the mahoosive limb blocking the road. Between the three of us, we were able to drag the branches off the road and sidewalk into our yard, and normal traffic resumed. Peter was responsive, kind, and knowledgeable. Our cherry plum succumbed to water intrusion and rotted at the points where it connected to the trunk, then one limb gave way into the road. We noticed darkening of the bark on the other limbs, indicating water intrusion, and with Peter's guidance, we decided to remove the tree to avoid another road closure and potential harm to people and autos. As part of the emergency service, he offered to come back on Saturday to remove the limbs and brush. He provided a quote for the emergency service and full tree removal. Their prices are extremely competitive for emergency work and whole-tree removal. We were able to have the tree removed today, even as the predicted light rain turned to torrential downpour at one point. The team left the site tidy, given all the sawing and debris, and finished the job quickly, in about an hour. We wanted to keep some of the wood, and they thoughtfully left it in movable pieces. I began this tree/stump removal journey in October and it's now March 3rd. With repeated reschedules and miscommunication do to this or that it's finally over. Unfortunately I had to request multiple times to have the stump removed which was part of the quote! Actually, I requested the tree and stump to be removed at the same time but it wasn't which was odd. Anyhow, I would not recommend Pete's to anyone. The work I was having done was straight forward and it was extremely difficult to get the entire job completed. And now I'm stuck cleaning up. read more

He took out about 20 trees on my property in SW Portland, and chipped the debris and hauled the big stuff. He can sub out stump grinding, or do it himself. No job is too small or too large. He recently started his company, but his service and attitude is excellent and we will be using him time and time again. He has been in the industry a long time though. From reading the reviews on Peters tree service it looks like mine will be one of a few less than 5 stars. I am giving 3 stars because: 1. Peters tree service seems to be a good company however small. 2. The price was fair 3. Peter said that the estimator is no longer with them an he bid it too low. This was after the crew was on site, and all left. 4. However Peter and his office accepted the price and we had a contract to cut down 2 large pine trees. 5. The crew showed up 3 from Peters tree srv. and 2 sub contracted climbers. 6. From the very moment the sub arrived he started shaking his head an complaining that Peter bid too low, however I never told him the quoted price. He is a sub (duh) 7. I told the sub contacted tree climber that Peter hired him and what difference did it make what Peter bid since the sub gets paid regardless of the quoted price. He could not understand and left the job, therefore Peters crew left also. Leaving me the customer in a lurch. This is not a way to do business and all it causes is a bad review. Please if you are having a large tree taken down and Peter uses a sub contracted Climber be aware. I would hope Peter will not use this sub Contractor again. Bad customer relations. This is the second time that I used this company. The first time I had to have a tree dropped and it did take a couple weeks for the stump to be ground. Good enough, so when I needed another tree removed I called. The service date was set for 2 months in advance. My power lines run through the tree and I mentioned that and the quote person knew that. They would have to coordinate with PGE. They week before the service date I found out that they were not going to be coming on Tuesday but Thursday instead because PGE was unable to drop the line on Tuesday. I was able to be there half the day but left because I had a camping trip planned. One of the employees made an error and told a third party that they could take my wood. This was incorrect, we specifically went over that they were supposed to leave the wood for me. When I returned from my trip on Sunday I was able to figure out one of my neighbors took the wood. I went and spoke to the neighbor let them know there was an error and after our conversation it was arranged I would pick it up from their house. The neighbor called Peter's tree service and complained. Renata at Peter's tree service did call the neighbors back and said it was their fault and as part of the contract the wood was supposed to be left. Through that conversation the neighbor decided they were not going to return the wood and became aggressive. Trying to be realistic that this is wood after all I told Peter's treaty service if they wanted to give me other wood that they had that would be fine. Renato told me they have wood all the time. This was 100 ft tree so it's a substantial amount of wood. After a week I followed up about receiving different wood. Now Peter is saying that they don't own the wood. He won't call me to have a conversation and his last email literally said "I'm disappointed about the wood". So if you have a contract with them don't plan on them completing it correctly. Also don't expect them to fix an error that they made. The great part about this is he still expecting me to pay full price. I guess I should just tell him I'm disappointed about the invoice? read more

Peter and his crew were great. They provided a quote to remove seven trees and grind the stumps on our property. The quote was very reasonable and more than worth it. They arrived promptly at the communicated time on a Monday morning and had the trees felled, chipped, and the debris cleaned up in about two and a half hours. They don't mess around and can drop a tree wherever they want it. They day they dropped the trees the transmission on the truck they use to tow their stump grinder was acting up. Peter communicated when he would be back to do that work and showed up as promised. I would highly recommend them and will for sure have them back to raise some branches on a couple of pine trees and maybe remove a couple more bushes depending on what I hear from my landscaper. read more

I couldn't be more pleased with the work of Peter's Tree Service. Their reasonable bid was emailed before Mike, the arborist, had left our property. They trimmed 20+ tall (many of them skinny) trees on our very steep hillside and trimmed or removed several others. Tree climber, Royal, is fearless, skilled and hard working as he literally swings from the tippy tops of the trees. The crew did a great job of cleaning up, including picking up every single pinecone from the street and sidewalk below. They came out and treated my magnolia tree for blight, which Mike identified as its problem immediately, and they are also returning to clean-up my overgrown willow tree. They are prompt, professional and don't overcharge. Their arborist is great at identifying tree problems as well. They also remove stumps and offer many other services.
