Order: mixed bag of candy of my choosing…read more Pros: I love candy ha ha ha! I was a kid in a candy store literally! The candy selection was great! The place was clean and organized. No mixed candy or messiness. Well lit place. Cons: can get a tad bit pricey real quick if you're not careful

I love It's Sugar. Being from New York, I'm super familiar with it, and it's always been a go-to…read morespot to satisfy sweet cravings. I've been a fan of the licorice strings since I was a kid--my mom loves them, and now my son does too. We went to the Atlantic Station location over the weekend--either Saturday or Sunday--and while the store itself is cute and colorful, the service left a lot to be desired. And honestly, it's not the first time I've had that experience there. Sometimes you walk in and get great service, and other times it's just rude. And that matters, especially in a space that's made for kids and families. Good service should come standard in a customer-facing role. This time, I went in with my mom and my 5-year-old son. He's pretty independent and knows how to go in and get his candy. When we got inside, he opened one of the candy containers to grab a bag and get his licorice strings. Nothing crazy. Out of nowhere, one of the employees--a dark-skinned young lady with braids in pigtails--shouted across the store, "No, no, no, no, no, no, no!" It was loud, unnecessary, and completely uncalled for. My son froze, confused. I froze. My mom froze. We didn't know what was going on. She rushed over, didn't ask a single question, didn't clarify anything--just grabbed the entire candy container and walked it behind the register. My son turned to me and said, "Mommy, what happened?" And I honestly didn't have an answer for him. He hadn't touched anything yet--he was just in front of the bin, doing what he always does. And even if she thought he had touched the candy, there was a much better way to handle it. You don't shout across a store at someone's child--especially when the parent is right there. A simple, "Hey, could you help him with that?" would've been just fine. It took everything in me to stay calm, because I was really upset. I didn't even want to buy anything after that. But we went ahead and got his licorice, and my mom picked up a few things. At the register, that same employee clearly picked up on my energy because her entire demeanor changed. But by then, the damage was done. It's disappointing because I actually like this store. The candy selection is fun--it's not full of specialty candies, but it's bright and cute and great for kids. Still, the service is what makes or breaks it, and in this case, it really broke it. This isn't the first time I've experienced this at this location, and honestly, I don't know if I'll be going back. If you do stop in, go for the candy. But don't expect much from the service.

Every so often, you need to go and check out an old-school store. That can include a soda fountain,…read moresome sort of clothing store with fashion of yesteryear, or in this case a candy store. Located inside Ponce city market, this place will satisfy your sweet tooth as well as your desire to see the sorts of things that your grandparents checked out as a cure for their sweet tooth. The footprint of this place is pretty limited, but I've got to goor amount of stuff here. There's an impressive selection of different types of gummy's. Seeing as we were in Atlanta, it felt like the kids probably needed some of the cola gummy's. Had they been there, I'm sure they would've been jockeying for just about anything. There's a good specialty chocolate selection, though the options that included dark chocolate were unfortunately sparse. However, if you're a milk chocolate fan, they've got a lot of different options for you. There were lots of larger than normal options of things like sugar daddies, candy bars, as well as a bunch of $.25-$.75 candies. The yard of Snickers was probably the item that was the most intriguing while also being the least likely thing for me to buy on that particular day. The gumball selection was also very impressive, with the oversized gumballs ultimately being the choice for the kids. These gumballs were slightly larger than a golf ball that were filled with nerds. I think they were something like two dollars apiece, but it definitely brought more than two dollars worth of joy! These things were massive and came in about 6 or 7 colors, which made it easy to decide to get three of the same color so as to prevent a meltdown over how everyone else got the color they wanted! All in all, a nice trip down memory lane and a good spot to grab a treat for the kids!

Ok... have you ever found a place that you weren't looking for, however... when you found it you…read morerealized you've needed it ALL your life??? Yeah... say hello to Pecan Jacks!! That was me last night. Let's talk about it. I was in the area for an event, however, I arrived a bit early and decided to walk up the street to check out Pecan Jacks. Now... I had no idea what Pecan Jacks was but the vibrant sign, clean window view into the inside, and elegant teal trim made me want to go, yep; I gathered all of that from the car as I drove by. Now, I walk up to the building and everything I gathered from the car was in my face and 10x better. Yet, the true experience wasn't until... (Drum Roll, please) I opened that front door!! Babeeeeeeeeeeee... I opened the front door of Pecan Jacks and was smacked in the face with the invigorating smells of vanilla, butter, waffle cone, and nutmeg. Yep... my nose was happy which led to my taste buds getting excited, which resulted in me falling in love and determining I had found my new spot. Ok... the wall. As soon as you walk in, the wall to the left is candy central. I'm talking gummi, sours, and chocolate. As I scanned the wall I truly wanted a pound of everything, however I knew I had to calm down. lol! But wait... I looked on the top shelf and guess what I saw!!! BRITTLE and best of all, variations of brittle. Oh yes. You know my secret affair with brittle was awakened and I had to scroll each flavor. Decisions, decisions. The Winner: Southern Pecan Brittle "Grandma Jacks old fashioned brittle, handcrafted with Georgia pecans and lots of butter. Pairs with beer or ice tea!" Forget what it pair with because the goodness of it all by itself had me slow chewing. lol!!! Perfect balance of sweet, salt, crunch, and chew. When you bite into it, you get the crunchy sweet brittle experience. As you chew, it transitions into a savory sweet buttery enhanced flavor thrilled nutty experience. Whew!!!! This thang is thangin!!! As I have found my hidden gem, I can't forget to shout out the amazing customer service, clean establishment, and vibrant lighting. The design theme of Pecan Jacks puts you in the mindset of a mini-getaway, and the stellar customer service makes you remember what southern hospitality is all about. Dear Owner of Pecan Jacks, you are smart, your recipes are magical, and you are appreciated. Sincerely, a new fan named D. K.

Unfortunately, they didn't have my favorite flavor chocolate chip cookie dough, which was a little disappointing. The only other thing I noticed was that the ice cream seemed to melt faster than at some other places I've visited, although that may have just been my perception. Overall, it was still a pleasant experience, and I'd be willing to come back, if they add chocolate chip cookie dough to the menu. If you're in the area and looking for a sweet treat, it's worth a visit.
