I recently experienced my very first vacation condo rental at Marine Surf. And let's just say, my…read moreexperience was beyond expectations! Marine Surf is centrally located in the heart of Waikiki where you can literally walk to the beaches, bus stops, the International Market Place, tons of ABC stores, vast amounts of shopping stores and food places. There's even a shopping plaza a few steps from the front entrance of the condominiums. With the condo I stayed at, it came with an assigned parking slot in the parking garage. There is a magnetic key which is required to enter the garage structure and also is required when you use the elevators to go on any level (except the 1st floor). I pretty much felt safe and secure while staying at Marine Surf for the week. There are laundry rooms available where you need a specific card (given by the owners) which credit can be refilled by making payment at the card machine in the lobby. There is also a swimming pool on the 4th floor if you do not feel like swimming in salty waters. The only con I can think is the the slight noise level when I have the balcony sliding door open. Because it is in the heart of Waikiki, I can hear the buses go by, people walking/chatting, the nearby bars playing music. However, when the sliding door is close, the noise was at a bare minimum, and I slept so well each night. Bobber, the owner of the studio condo I rented from has two studios next to each other. He calls both of his studios, WaikikiLux because one ... it is in Waikiki, and two ... both of his studios provides the luxurious experience with beautiful interior designing and furniture, clean full kitchen, fully stocked necessities (like cooking equipment, bathroom toiletries, beach towels, iPod docking system, etc). For more information or if you would like to rent at WaikikiLux, go to: http://www.vrbo.com/190725. I definitely recommend renting a condo rather than staying at a hotel because it is cheaper and you feel like you are living as a local resident in Hawaii! And Marine Surf is a great place to rent!

Upon arrival, we noticed that the house was at the end of a well off neighborhood. The backyard contained a lot of wooden antiques and knick-knacks stored from floor to ceiling. These were blended into a huge two-level backyard that flourished with huge trees, a menagerie of plants, and wildlife... specifically Sunny the cat, who would mew his greetings to us and bask in the sun. Our host, Brooke, was born and raised on the island and was a great source of recommendations and insight towards our experience. She made sure we had local fruit and homemade breakfast each day during our stay, and was more than accommodating with extra supplies (cooler, beach towels, sunscreen/mosquito repellent). We stayed for two nights in grandpa's apartment and when we had to head out extra early for our first day on the island, Brooke set aside our breakfast so we could have food when we got back. We would definitely come back and recommend it for people who value making connections and experiencing the island with people who call Hawaii home.

Upon arrival, we were greeted by Misty and given a walk through of the beautiful and newly renovated unit. For breakfast, we found a healthy selection of fruit, juice, pastries, yogurt, and bottled water waiting for us in the refrigerator. There were also many kinds of k-cup coffees and teas for us to choose from. The towels were fluffy, the bedding was comfortable, and the toiletries were quality organic products. We loved walking to the quiet Kailua beach and to the shopping plaza across the street for delicious poke bowls. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and won't hesitate to recommend this B&B to friends and family.

[From my review on TripAdvisor]…read more We went on a Thanksgiving cruise (Grand Princess) to Hawaii, roundtrip from San Francisco. Our cruise ship had an engine fire, and so instead of having 4 port days (one on each island), we only had 2 port days in Honolulu. I was so glad to have booked the tour with Akima and Bob. This tour definitely "saved" our vacation! I learned about Akima and Bob's tour company, Hawaii Real Nature, through Groupon, but I booked directly with Akima since I have a young child and also needed a non-hotel pickup (at Aloha Tower Marketplace, where the cruise ship docked in Honolulu). The price that I paid was just as good, if not better, than the Groupon price so I highly recommend that you book through Akima directly. We went on the 8-hour West Oahu and snorkeling tour. Including us (family of 3), there were 6 people on the tour; the other three people were a retired couple and a young man. Along the way, Bob and Akima took turns telling us stories about Hawaii's history and culture as we stopped at sacred sites and historic landmarks. Due to the small size of the group, it was like hanging out with friends. We stopped at various places such as Ku'ilioloa Heiau, Kaneana Cave, Makaha Valley and Yokohama beach. Akima took pictures for us and they turned out beautiful. =) You should check out her photograph website. Her passion is in underwater and wildlife photography. What really stood out for me on this tour was how Akima and Bob managed two beginners during snorkeling. The retired lady and my 5-year-old daughter were completely new to snorkeling and Akima was extremely patient in helping them get set up and feel comfortable in the water. She had a torpedo-shaped buoy with handles that really helped my daughter feel confident in deep water. As a so-so swimmer myself, I would not have been able to expose my daughter to the wonders of snorkeling if it weren't for Akima and Bob. They are both certified divers and life rescuers so I felt completely comfortable entrusting my life (and my daughter's) in their hands during the guided snorkeling tour. When my daughter returned to school, she was telling everyone that she did snorkeling (even though she really just wore goggles and dunked her head into the water whenever I told her there were fish right under; I was snorkeling besides her). She even showed everyone a picture of her with an orange sea urchin on her head. Akima dove underwater and found one, and we all took turns "wearing" our sea urchin and posing for pictures. Next time we return to Oahu, I will definitely be booking another tour with Akima and Bob. The quality and price sure beats the excursions from the cruise ship. PRO TIPS: (1) Akima and Bob provide all the snorkeling equipment, including fins, goggles and tubes. My husband wears glasses so he just brought his own prescription goggles. (2) Bring towels, especially if you are going to snorkel. (3) The first stop we made was at a plaza with McDonalds and a supermarket. So there is no need to pack food. (4) Bring cash for tips.
