We could've stayed at one of the local popular hotels, such as La Quinta or the Holiday Inn, but who wants any of those stuffy, corporate hotel rooms when you can have this type of custom experience? The owners of the Inn live on the same property and they were always readily available when I called to speak with them. It's called the Novel House Inn because every single room is dedicated to a particular famous author. Therefore, every room is themed in that authors' famous manuscript. We had a room upstairs in honor of Robert Louis Stevenson, who wrote, 'Treasure Island,' so the entire room had little sailors and the author's published works. We loved it because it felt so cozy and it was very clean considering that they do not have a full staff waiting on you hand and foot to maintain the property. I wish we could stayed here longer just to soak in all the little details of the property, including a guest lounge with dining tables and coffee freshly brewed every morning, a library with plenty of books, and a chess set. The owner also provides you with vouchers to a free breakfast(s) at a place called Oscar's Café, which is about a 10 minute walk from the Inn. My husband and I both had our meals and drinks for free. That was the best free breakfast I had ever had!!!!!! The shuttle into Zion National Park is the #5 and it's located right across from the Inn. You have to wear masks on the shuttles; however, it's free to ride them. The ONLY downside is that there is no elevator here. People with physical disabilities, or if they're in a wheelchair, or (frail) elderly, would need to book a room on the first floor. Try not to pack much too for the night because you will be lugging your own suitcases up a flight of stairs.

So it caught me by surprise just how much I liked Quail Park Lodge. It's tucked against those incredible red rock views and endless Utah skies, right on the main road through Kanab. Granted, that's not saying much because Kanab basically has two main streets, but the location is perfect for getting anywhere in town while still feeling peaceful. The best way I can describe it is that it has Airbnb personality without the Airbnb hassle. The room felt modern, cozy, and thoughtfully decorated instead of looking like it was furnished by the Hotel Beige Committee. The bed was genuinely comfortable, the bathroom was spotless, and the rain shower head made me briefly consider whether I should just live there now. Everything about the place was easy. Keyless entry, simple check-in, easy parking, a nice little pool out front, and lots of those small touches that make you feel like someone actually cared about the guest experience instead of just checking boxes. I booked online, although you'll also notice a QR code posted at the property if you're already in town. Either way it's as painless as booking gets. It's rare that I say a hotel actually made my trip better, but this one absolutely did. I'd stay here again without a second thought. Five stars. I'd give it a 10 out of 10, but Yelp insists on limiting my enthusiasm.

Delicious fruit, beautifully displayed, fresh juice of your choice, and mouthwatering entrées are all part of the experience. If you don't already have plans, Kathy will help you with her ideas, resourcefulness, maps, and brochures. Her husband, Tory, available when he can be, is also a gracious host and tends the bountiful garden that supplies much of Kathy's cooking. I was also hoping to "rent" a pet from the Animal Sanctuary for the duration of our visit, but alas, checked in too late for that. I'd advise anyone who wants to "rent" a pet to call in advance to understand the process and time cut-off. I loved the room. It was super cute and well-appointed for guests with pets. There were two bowls waiting near the front door, and two adorable sleeping areas - one in a cut-out in the wall, and another a pull-out trundle-style bed. The mercantile/ store was stocked with cute apparel for pet-lovers as well as items for pets. Breakfast was also served in the store in the morning - with lots of interesting and yummy options - like vegan egg bites and chia seed pudding. 10/10 recommend this place!!

All done with contemporary Scandinavian furniture which minimizes clutter and convenient controls for lighting, ventilation and automatic shades. - Employees: Helpful. People at the reception desk and in the breakfast area/"Mercantile Shop" were all very friendly. - Breakfast: Vegan and very good. Included with the room. While it wasn't a buffet, you could order as much as you'd like. Much of it was homemade and I especially liked the "Overnight Oats". Kolob Canyons is a very pretty area, but less developed than Zion Canyon. Anyway, Zion has steep and sheer cliffs that leave you breathless. It also has a river and swampland, as well as emerald pools and waterfalls. It is so varied in its landscape, I really can't compare it to anything else. I hiked a whole bunch here: Angel's Landing, Emerald Pools, Weeping Rock, Riverside Walk, Canyon Overlook, even a bit of the Narrows. I want to do a through hike of the Narrows next time - I didn't have enough time in my schedule this time unfortunately. I saw more wildlife than expected too. I think a lot of the animals are habituated to humans, and aren't frightened at all. I also love how well run the shuttle system is. The bus drivers will radio to each other if there's a long line at any stop, and they will send an empty bus there to help avoid extended waits. It's so thoughtful. I stayed in the Zion Lodge, but I'm sure that the gateway town of Springdale has a similarly efficiently run shuttle system as well.
