As a plumbing company, these guys are reliable and do a good job, but I am so tired of getting nickel and dimed to death when you go to pay for the work done and they're charging you a 3% to 5% service fee to use your credit card. It's bad enough they started charging travel time to and from your residence. Seems Customer Service has gone out the window and things you used to take for granted as being part of the good customer service and encouraging brand loyalty are now a charge every time you turn around. So frustrating. And I realize the cost of doing business has gone up, however, travel time never used to be a charged and credit card fees were unheard of unless you were paying your balance each month. read more

Savage and Son replaced a failed PRV in the crawl space. When I called to schedule an appointment, the lady who answered the phone was up front about the hourly rate and all costs involved so there was no surprise. I called on a Monday and had an appointment for first thing in the morning Wednesday between 8-8:30. On the day of, Henry called just after 8 to let me know he was on his way and showed up within 20 minutes. He communicated the entire time with me regarding each step of his process and even reiterated the cost of the replacement part before he got started so I wouldn't be surprised. He also answered all my questions. Having to do a job in a tight crawl space underneath a house must be so uncomfortable and awkward, but he was so friendly and positive the whole time. His work was fast and thorough. The cost was much lower than I anticipated having received another quote from another place for about $300 higher. Savage and Son was recommended by a friend who had lots of bad experiences with plumbers but the best experience with Savage and Son. We had an issue with an outside water faucet and a leak! Boy did we have a water under the house issue. So they sent us Mike, he was so awesome, very helpful and went way above and beyond to help with the issues, after months of trying to drain under the house and finding irrigation leaks, he braved the liquid under our house and fixed our faucet, made sure all our plumbing was leaking free, and now we know the problem! Long story short, the first service technician doing the assessment tried to pad his hours, there was absolutely no communication from the plumber on the day that the work took place even though I had requested multiple times that he call me to let me know when he was starting and ending, so I didn't even know if the job had been completed that day or not, it took three days to complete the one day job, and it ended up costing almost $300 more than I had then led to believe it would without warning me at all because they refused to give me an estimate in the first place. They get two stars instead of one because, at the end of it all, I believe the leak got fixed and they did a phenomenal job filling the hole back in, you can't even tell that the ground was disturbed at all. Also, their after hours technician, I think his name was Mikey but I could be totally wrong about that, was super friendly, apologetic, and at least got me the service report so I could find out whether or not the leak had been fixed that day. read more

You would think a water heater was a simple request. Well in this town it is not unless you call Savage & Son. Ten contractors, with a price ranging from $2400 (not in writing) to $5500 (asked him to leave without a proposal). All the others do not either know building regulation on water heaters on a existing home, because they all quoted for new construction standards, or they do and really like taking people for their money. Washoe Building Department confirmed that I was being quote for unnecessary work by all the others for a "repair" on an existing home. Savage is the only contractor who did not, and I know from past experiences that my scheduled appoint will be with great work and will pass inspection from the county. read more

I requested a simple site visit to have someone camera our sewer line and Kathleen was incredibly rude and not helpful. I asked to speak to a supervisor, and she obnoxiously yelled across the room stating her case against me, presumably to a supervisor, who subsequently would not speak to me on the phone. The reason I asked was because she wanted a CC on file which is fine, however our business requires some type of estimate/invoice/email to let me know how the visit will be charged.
