I've been here twice now, once with my family on vacation and another time alone and both have been absolutely amazing. My wife has celiac, so when I came with the family we had to ensure that all of the dishes we ordered were gluten free. The staff was incredibly helpful in ensuring she would be safe. We tried a variety of dishes and shared and everything we had was amazing. The second time I came I got a chance to try some of the bread which was also great. The combination of excellent food and an inspired cocktail menu make this a great place for lunch, dinner or even just drinks out with friends. Satu Lagi has become a fast favorite after my first visit. I have been back a few times and it never cease to amaze me. My boyfriend's 50th was coming up and without hesitation i decided to contact the owner to see if they could accommodate a large group. They put a sharing menu together for us, accommodated restrictions and did it beyond expectations. The food was exceptional , flavorful, as always. The service was amazing. I was skeptical about turning rendang--a traditional Indonesian dish--into a breakfast dish, but they did it amazingly. Every ingredient was so thoughtful. This truly hit the spot and I'd come back for it. The meat was so tender and the flavor was authentic. The pandan Creme Brulee was to die for. My husband had the fried chicken which he enjoyed. Service was great and the bar is decorated with traditional Indonesian masks. Well lit during the day, not sure about night time. It is a very nice space. read more

This was a great meal. For starters the entire menu is gluten free which made it easy if you have any one who is celiac or has a gluten allergy. Drinks were delicious and unique. The beef satay was tender and tasty. The fried mushrooms were crunchy and a hearty serving. The fresh sambal is spicy and worth trying if you enjoy sambal. The Sambal Matah is a must get. We got the Duck and Jack Fruit curry as well as the satay and turmeric rice. All of these were amazing and I liked the Sambal Matah and Jackfruit curry the best. We ate here at the recommendation of a friend. Our experience was mixed, which may have been a function of the particular evening we were there, and possibly of our menu choices. On the upside: the grilled broccoli and chicken satay were excellent. The beef coconut curry was also very good. The chicken curry could have been more flavorful, but the bigger issue is that it was whole, bone-in chicken thighs -- kind of messy to eat, especially because there were no knives in the place settings. We did not like the banana leaf fish cakes. Service was not great the evening we were there. We had a reservation, and were seated right away, but then waited an oddly long time for menus. By the time the waiter returned to take our drink order, we made sure to order our food, too, rather than risk another long wait for his return. Our first "medium plate" -- a curry -- arrived without the rice, which made no sense. We had to flag down the waiter to get the rice, which was obviously already made and ready to bring out. This is my chief complaint: In general, the waitstaff seemed harried and flustered, maybe because there was a group of eight young women (a bachelorette party? a friends' reunion?) whose presence dominated the room and who evidently kept the waitstaff, bartender, and kitchen busy. On the evening we were there, it was too unseasonably cool to eat outside on the terrasse, so nearly all diners were inside the restaurant. This means there was no escape from the VERY loud and obtrusive table of young women. Satu Lagi did not have loud music playing (like too many restaurants), yet the group of young women were shout-talking and shrieking in laughter as if they were at a night club. NONE of the staff, who were clearly aware of the noise issue, tried to address the nuisance. It would not have taken much for one of them -- perhaps the handsome bartender who had already charmed the young women -- to say, "Excuse me, ladies. We're glad you're enjoying yourself, but we do ask that you keep your voices down out of consideration for the other patrons." This would have made a world of difference to everyone else. Why are restaurant staff so reluctant to ask excessively loud patrons to please keep their voices down? I recommend that waitstaff throughout the city practice -- in French and English -- politely asking annoyingly noisy customers to kindly quiet down. The other customers would really appreciate it. We may try this restaurant again, but for now I have a bad taste in my mouth from the overall experience -- which, by the way, was not inexpensive. read more

I have been to many restaurants in Montréal during my time in the city, and I have to say this is the best run I have ever seen. Not only is the food amazing (mouth watering), but the service is impeccable. Everyone pitches in to help with service and the chefs even check in on you!
