Looking for spicy food, we found Krapow on Yelp. Thanks, Yelpsters, for the tip.
First, what the heck is a Krapow? To us anglophones, it sounds like something you don't want to associate with food. Turns out 'krapow' is a variety of Thai basil.
Krapow is a small storefront meant for takeout food. There are two small tables in the restaurant, a counter and the kitchen.
The menu is limited to a handful of Thai, Malaysian and Indonesian dishes. One guy -- the owner? -- appears to be the whole operation.
The food is tasty, super fresh, and mildly spicy. (This is Canada, after all.)
There's soup (excellent!), one beef dish (didn't try it), one chicken dish (tasty), and a seasonal vegetarian dish made out of winter melon (excellent). That's it.
The only thing I should have asked was a bit of extra sriracha.
The portions are large. When I placed the order the guy told me I needed two soups and two entrees for two people. Way too much food. Ate some of the leftovers for breakfast this morning, tossed out the rest.
So here's the bottom line: if you're looking for excellent Asian takeout on le Plateau, give Krapow a try. read more
