Satterfield's, Macon
Bruce K.

A perfect lunch as I started some sightseeing in Macon, I arrived on Sunday afternoon to a half-full restaurant. The friendly waitress took my order and a few minutes later, a barbecue salad arrived at my table. A nice base of fresh spring mix topped by chopped brisket, a boiled egg and some pickled onions. Nicely presented and delicious. Feeling stuffed but not like I needed a nap, this was great. [Review 1061 of 2024 - 729 in Georgia - 22089 overall]

Brisket was very moist, right amt of fat. Ribs were meaty but a bit dry.

I'm a bit surprised by the lack of reviews on this place and probably wouldn't have ever come across it if not recommended by a friend who is local. I'm glad he did though as I dropped in today for lunch on my down to FL. They have recently reopened for dine in and are doing a good job of keeping tables distanced, and having employees wear masks and gloves. It'd be nice if they required those coming in and waiting on takeout to don one as well but I get it, it can be off putting, as silly as it may be. The menu isn't overly complex and they do offer specials of the day whether it be sides or otherwise. They were also nice enough to accommodate a rib and brisket place for an up charge which I appreciated as those are meats that really define a bbq joint. As for sides I opted for the collards (with turkey bits) and a brisket chili they were offering. Overall I have to say I'm quite impressed with that I ate. The brisket was probably some of the best I've had in GA, and the ribs, even if a bit overdone to me, were meaty and had great smoke to it. The sides shined nicely as well, collards came out hot, and the chili with cheese and onions was perfect and something I could've easily had a bowl of. The pc of cold buttered toast is probably the only thing I could've done without. As for sauces, they offered 5 options, of which a plate gets you a choice of 2, but the owner was nice enough to offer me a third. I'm a pretty big sauce guy even if the meat is already fantastic and btw the golden mustard, the Carolina vinegar, and white bbq sauce I tried, the vinegar is the one that stood out the most, with the white bbq being a second. All in all a great visit, I will def be back again.

The best bbq in Georgia!! Doesn't matter what meat you get it's gonna be good. Amazing specials along with their normal Smokehouse menu. The go to spot for great food. The staff is great too!!

Some of the best collards you will eat.

Delicious lunch spot. Try whatever sandwich is the daily special. It will be delicious. Today it was a Cuban and it was fantastic! Creamed corn was super yummy. The collards with smoked turkey are awesome. Fries were hot and tasty!

AMAZING! This is truly the best BBQ in Georgia, and quite possibly the continent in my humble opinion. I stumbled upon this little gem yesterday, and tried the brisket sandwich and catfish po-boy buffalo style. It was love at first bite...let me tell you how the brisket bends ever so gently, then melts in your mouth like butter. The catfish is seasoned and cooked to pure perfection! The service was awesome! We went back the next day it was so good, this time we were blessed enough to meet the owner, and he welcomed us like family. He even let us sample boudin sausage he was making from scratch! I'm highly recommending you run not walk to get a taste of this food experience!

Brisket Reuben and collards

Ben and his staff greeted us as soon as we we arrived. As first timers here, they answered all our questions and made recommendations. We had the special brisket Reuben and the 6oz brisket plate. Both were fantastic! Perfectly cooked and delicious! Collards and coleslaw were equally delicious! The fresh pickles and pickled onions were crisp and delicious. To top it off, they offered a military/first responder discount. Many thank to Ben and his team for a great experience here; highly recommend!

We shared the brisket, chicken and pork meats, and the Mac, beans, and collards. SAVE ROOM FOR THE BANANA PUDDING!

There's a lot of hype when it comes to BBQ, and despite the fact that we were passing through and never heard of them, we stopped and OMG! Mind you, my husband has a BBQ food truck, so we are very particular. Their food is delicious, the staff is SO FRIENDLY, and please make sure you leave room for the best banana pudding I've ever had. We might have it shipped in for my daughter's wedding.

$21 for 3 miniature ribs, 3 sides, 5 sauce.

The place is extremely dirty,, poorly maintained.. taped signs everywhere. Ordered a rib plate, and one extra side $21 total. Came with 3 sawed down small ribs. Ribs were lacking flavor, but tender. Decent smoke ring. Mac n cheese was watery, and clearly a powdered cheese disaster. Beans were from last week. Broke my plastic spoon on them. Nasty. Brunswick was very greasy, but full of good chunks. Had to add sauce to ribs and Brunswick to get any flavor. White sauce, Carolina, mustard were all 3 very poor recipes. The sweeter sauces were OK. Expected buttered Texas toast, got ONE LONE unbuttered, grilled on one side piece of very small white sandwich bread. Nasty home made pickles not even close.. Called in the order way early, even though they were dead, took 15 extra minutes to put together. I just don't understand how they stay in business? 87 health score is generous based on the grime I saw.

The best BBQ you will find in middle Georgia. And I challenge you to find a better brisket anywhere. This place is a must try.

Fresh Air Bar-B-Que - Smoked chicken...AMAZING!!

Fresh Air Bar-B-Que

With my quest for good BBQ in the North in a state of continued failure, it goes without saying…read morethat when I'm home in Georgia, BBQ ribs are a given. Today, I enjoyed an old favorite, Fresh Air Bar-B-Que. Located in the far corner of a strip mall, it's easy to miss; but, it's well worth keeping an eye out for. If your looking for ambiance, we'll, it's a rib place. You don't get that. You do get a clean, and friendly atmosphere, with great food. I chose the rib plate (what else would I choose), which featured a moist, fall off the bone tender, half pound of ribs, with just a taste of tangy, but optional, BBQ sauce, ( don't worry. If you want more sauce, it's there for you on the table in hot or mild varieties. If you must, And I don't see why you would, you can also add Texas Pete's hot sause, which is also there) small cups of appropriately modest flavored Brunswick stew (packed with delicious...uh...Brunswick stew stuff) and sweet, crispy, cole slaw. Add in a slice of thick sliced bread, to sop up the goodness; and, for $13.99, before tax and a well earned tip, you have, I repeat, a great, filling, meal. Want more evidence? My photo was taken mid-meal. The food was so tasty, I nearly forgot to snap photo.

Fresh Air takes all the headaches out of catering. The catering team always accurately calculates just the right amount of food for the lunches. Delivery is on time. They set it up for us and provide all the plates, cups, cutlery, ice and condiments we need. Their prices are extremely reasonable and the food is delicious! The huge smiles on my coworkers faces when they see Fresh Air set up makes me happy!

And though I knew it was too much I had to try their Florida's citrus wings because I'd never had them. Let me tell you- worth worth worth it! Our service was spot on. We walked in just as they had opened. Seated right away and waitress came up immediately. I only got a little sass for ordering unsweetened tea ;)- I would have been disappointed if not haha. Service was excellent. The restaurant was very clean. The bar looked nice though we didn't partake. Don't miss this location. P.S. there was another review here that mentioned ogres. I'm here to say the establishment was ogre-free. Thank you!!!

On our way up to NC on 11/7 and stayed the night nearby. We were excited to see a Sonny's so close…read moreand headed there for dinner. We loved the new look and were seated quickly on for a Friday night. The hostess was super friendly, as were other staff we encountered later. The rest of our experience was surreal to say the least. To start, it was so cold in the restaurant, as was noted by other diners around us. Not sure why, but it was completely unnecessary. Our waitress (we later learned she was also the bartender) took our order (3 soft drinks, some corn nuggets, and 3 meals), and brought the drinks out quickly. As she was leaving, one of our party knocked over their drink -- and you know how big the cups are! The waitress said she'd be back with a towel, then disappeared. I saw her go into the kitchen, then come out and go to the bar where she began taking orders and serving people. I was dumbfounded. We did our best to wipe up the spill and ice, using the paper towels at the table, but we had a huge wet pile sitting there. After about 5 minutes another server came by and we asked for towels, telling her our server never came back. That new server came back with a tray for the ice and mess, as well as a wet towel to wipe the table down. It was probably another 7 minutes before our server returned, this time with a replacement drink and then plopped the corn nuggets down and walked away. That was it... and the nuggets didn't have the little skewers nor the powdered sugar. About 10 minutes later the meals came (from a different server), and my chopped brisket sandwich wasn't cold, but it was barely warm, and a bit grizzly. We kept wondering if this was a brand new location and the staff just weren't properly trained, but when I asked another server later how long they'd been open, she told me 2 years! We barely saw our waitress -- and yes, I understand team style service, but this was just weird. I actually wondered if it was my FSU shirt as we were in Bulldog territory, but regardless, I've never had such poor service at a Sonny's. Management, you need to look into this and see what was happening and why we received such poor treatment. The rest of the staff treated us well... maybe having a bartender cover tables in the dining room is too much?
