I recently completed a two-bathroom remodel with Builder Boy and was connected with Emma (she's the best!!) at Satin and Slate for the design. Emma has been extremely helpful (even helpful with questions construction related that are outside of the design process). She made the selection of materials so easy, as you know this can be an overwhelming task with so many options! BUT Emma understood what my design style is and gave me peace with the selection process and I absolutely LOVE the outcome! Emma's professionalism and attention to details was and is such a blessing and made my first experience remodeling that much easier! When the time comes around again to start another construction project (kitchen) I will not hesitate to use Emma and Satin and Slate again. - A HUGE THANK YOU! read more

We worked with Emma and Satin & Slate to upgrade a bedroom and design/build a bathroom. We could not have been more happy with Emma and her team. Satin & Slate did a top notch job and operates like a much larger firm. The professionalism and attention to detail were second to none. Emma was at the worksite regularly to make sure that her design was coming to life and everything was going in as planned. Even when things happened and we had to pivot (through no fault of Satin & Silk) Emma made the process seamless. We are very happy with our new addition and we could not have done it without Emma and her team. We highly recommend Emma and Satin & Slate! read more

I felt very intimidating searching for a designer when we were embarking on a kitchen renovation. So many of them didn't seem like the right fit, but when I stumbled across Satin & Slate's portfolio it felt like things really clicked. Ana came up with a beautiful design and we couldn't be happier with the results. She really helped guide us and worked with us to help our vision come to life. She was patient with my indecisiveness but helped us keep our project moving. We're out of their usual location range and couldn't work with their contractors, so I think because of that some of the communication was challenging between designer and contractor. (It seems like they work pretty seamlessly with Builder Boy!) So while that was challenging at times, the end result is one I know I couldn't have done without Ana's skilled eye and access to beautiful materials I didn't even know existed. I'm really felt like the design was such a collaboration between us and she really helped me realize my vision and what was important to us. read more

I renovated all bathrooms and the kitchen of my home, as well as replacing all flooring, doors, and windows. I found Emma of Satin and Slate through Yelp and we clicked from our first meeting. Through our conversations and my showing her my Pinterest saves, she was able to dial into my taste and her selections were very on brand for me. Emma is very knowledgeable and when she didn't know the answer, she was able to direct me towards someone who did. Once the design process was done, she helped me to manage the project and communicate with the contractor (she introduced me to two options, got me quotes from both, and I went with JJ Construction, who was wonderful!). Of course a project of this size will come with its problems and the best thing about Satin and Slate is that they always had a solution or solutions ready for me. Mateo and Anna kept in constant contact with me about materials and timing and I am so appreciative of their meticulous attention to detail. I would highly recommend Satin and Slate for any design project you need! read more

My husband and I had a great experience working with Emma and Chandler from Satin & Slate during our bathroom remodel. Even though I knew the design aesthetic we wanted, Emma was great with providing alternate options and samples for review. I work roughly 60 hours a week at my job and am not always available to check my personal emails, etc. Emma quickly adapted to texting and quick calls to keep the communication flowing and the remodel on track. Having her and Chandler to coordinate the ordering, measuring, finishing touches etc., made all the difference in the world. It was like having a wedding planner all over again, only less stressful. If you're coordinating a project, we highly recommend Satin & Slate. You won't be disappointed. read more

Our General Contractor, Builder Boy, referred us to Satin & Slate. We worked with Thomas and his team (primarily Vanessa) as part of our Kitchen Remodeling project. They have achieved the look we were aiming for and more! It has now been about a year since moving into our home and newly renovated kitchen, and Now, we are kicking ourselves for not doing a WHOLE HOUSE design with Satin & Slate (even though we are not planning on remodeling the whole house just yet). In short, as long as you know what style/look/feel you are trying to achieve, Thomas and his team will help bring your vision to life! Just be patient, communicative, and decisive. Would love to work with Satin & Slate again for the rest of our house. read more

I can't even express in words how I love the collaboration with Emma from Satin and Slate in renovating my tiny condo. I have never worked with an interior designer, and am so happy that I found Emma! I was sooooo nervous, not only to spend the money, but for someone to not understand my style. I am not creative and didn't want to spend the time looking for pieces or going online and getting decorating ideas. This is where i relied on Emma and her expertise. With working more from home, I needed to update my living room (and added the bedroom since it was so bland) and create an office space. I just had too much chachi stuff all over the place that I didn't want to part with (memories haha), and needed someone to work with pieces I love, but create an funky "adult" living space. I love the color theme that Emma suggested for me, even though I was resistant at first, but I LOVE LOVE IT!!! I wanted a living room area where I can have a space to have people sit around and also not bock my view of downtown LB. Emma was patient, good listener and really understood the vibe I was trying to create. She provided samples, pictures and was always available - i love exceptional customer service. Super happy, and will be contacting her again for my kitchen! read more

As a homeowner with relatively little experience in construction and design, I appreciated working with Emma and Cynthia at Satin & Slate. Emma communicated in a clear and timely manner and guided me toward choices that meet and exceed my expectations. Designing a small space can be a challenge. Although the space is small, it feels spacious and has a great flow. When adjustments were needed, Emma and Cynthia stepped right up and took care of things. I highly recommend Satin & Slate and I hope to have another opportunity to work with them. read more

Throughout our project, we worked with several contractors and designers. Thomas at Satin and Slate was truly a star above all. He was so easy to work with, really listened to what we asked for and delivered speedy and top notch custom, one of a kind designs. He pulled out all the stops and went above and beyond for us. We cannot speak his praises enough. We have even pulled him into our home design jobs and other projects. We will use his design services exclusively moving forward. read more

We used Thomas as our designer, but he ended up being so much more. We recently moved back to Long Beach to retire here but needed to renovate out 100 year old home. It was an overwhelming project for us especially during this pandemic. Thomas met with us at the homesite and essentially designed it from studs to finish. He designed wall placement, window placement, kitchen and bathroom design and helped me make very tough decisions when I would get "analysis paralysis"!! Thomas has a great design sense of design but always listened to the style and mood that we wanted to create in our space. He was always kind, generous with his time and advice and above all displayed a great sense of patience and integrity. I would use Thomas Keene again and would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone. Linda 2020 read more

I have worked with Emma and the team at Satin & Slate on two projects, bathroom and kitchen, over the past two years and they are such an incredibly creative and easy team to work and communicate with! Emma made the entire process from start to finish so seamless. I sent her a few pictures of my inspiration for both projects and she nailed the design on both of them! I am so happy with our new bathroom and kitchen! I plan on working with Emma again on our second bathroom and highly, highly recommend the team for all of your design needs! read more

Emma was our primary contact for Satin and Slate during our whole house remodel. She conducted an initial meeting with us to determine our design ideas. She worked diligently to ensure that materials and fixtures were ordered to meet the construction schedule. These materials included flooring, faucets and fixtures, counters and backsplash, hardware, paint, stucco and doors. She provided vendor recommendations including scheduling and attending the initial appointment with the door vendor. Emma also provided referrals for our shower doors. We had many meetings/calls with her and she was very responsive. We valued her experience and knowledge during this remodel. She also acted as a liaison with the contractor whenever key personnel were absent or unavailable. We thank Emma for all of her efforts on our behalf. read more

I was referred to Thomas by Builder Boy to design a layout for my home renovation. I had an architect and structural engineer lined up to draw up all the COMPLETE plans and documentation needed to submit to the city for the permit. And they had promised me to have everything ready to submit within three weeks. Thomas told me that he and his structural engineer would be able to complete the plans faster and save me money, so I didn't need my own architect. Apparently, seven weeks is faster than three weeks. Add in another couple of weeks delay because Thomas held up construction of a six figure renovation, with $3k in monthly carrying costs, because I hadn't picked out a $300 faucet and $500 chandelier. I paid well into the four figures for the plans and basic designs for my new home. The city has come back twice with questions because the plans are incomplete and Thomas is not willing to complete the work I already paid him to do. That is exactly why he didn't want me to use my own architect for the plans - it would have been a missed opportunity to double charge me. The basic room designs (think very basic as in Ikea black/white print out) are not worth $900 a room, as Lowe's, Home Depot, Kohler, Bauformat, etc all now offer free 3D designs, and in full color, with a reasonable size purchase. I had to throw in the towel on a 12k order of materials as Thomas was very secretive about the status and didn't want me to know what he did with the money. And he's definitely not worth the thousands for plans that will deliberately be incomplete so he can charge you...to properly complete the work he was already paid to do. I would suggest going somewhere else....anywhere else. read more

I was ready to redo my bathroom but did not know where to start. I contacted Satin and Slate Interiors for help, and I have to say the result is amazing. They helped not only with the design but also with all the finishes, things I did not know I needed. My wife used Satin and Slate after being recommended by a family friend. They had excellent ideas and were able to stay within our budget! Would definitely recommend working with Alex and Lindsay! read more

I was talking to Lindsay prior to my move to Houston and didn't want to have to find a new designer that I worked well with, so I purchased 3 virtual packages for her help in my new space remotely. It was a little hard taking the specific measurements but she was so helpful and patient. Two weeks later, I got a completed design for all 3 spaces with floor plans, a 3D mock up and a shopping list where I can order everything I liked. Her team is quick and attentive and responded to my messages and questions promptly. I even bought a few more hours to get more help. I'm very proud of the final space because I was able to do it on my own time and put the finishing touches. I will always refer to Satin & Slate for design advice and services. read more

Lindsay is such a patient and attentive designer and always remained level headed when we got frustrated with the renovations. The result of our remodel was everything we wanted. I highly recommend this firm. Lindsay and Alex may look young but their experience and knowledge in the field is very evident. I never had an unanswered question or an uncertain moment in my project except for when we changed our minds on backsplash 20 times. They were both very helpful. read more
