My updated review on Sarku Japan since I recently did an Uber eats order. They had a special deal going on where it was buy one get one free and I took advantage. I always get their chicken teriyaki with extra chicken and for the deal it came out to about $25 including delivery fees and tips (not a bad deal!) Service is very fast here so a good option if you're on the go. Probably would not recommend their sushi since it's not a sushi restaurant? That's probably what is attributing to the lower reviews. They should also consider just removing that off their menu. Otherwise it's nice that it's conveniently located in the Aspen hill shopping center. There's plenty of parking. read more

I'm a teriyaki chicken addict and amongst the "fast food" teriyaki spots in the area, Sarku wins! They for sure have the best teriyaki sauce and the chicken is always super fresh and not dry like some of the other places. The staff are always really nice to my five year old when we dine in and they often bring our food to the table even though it's not that kind of restaurant. My daughter loves the California rolls and spring rolls and noodles. read more

Haven't had this in decades but it's simple and still delicious. I made the mistake of getting extra sauce on my chicken and shrimp teriyaki (because I saw the guy in front of me do it). It ended up being way too saucy for me. In the past, I would have just put soy sauce and siracha on the rice and it was way better. read more

I was sad when the Sarku at Wheaton Mall closed cause I was like "where will I get my teriyaki chicken now?". I also had the preconceived notion that the Sarku at the mall was always better than the non-mall ones, and had avoided those, cause if I can't look the cooks in the eye while I wait in line after paying to get my food, what am I even really doing with my life. But I soon realized my ill preconceived notions was completely wrong and without merit after coming here and I'm wondering what else have I been thinking wrong? Is Burger King just as good as McDonalds, is Pluto really not a planet, am I decent father? Eh.... But yeah, this Sarku is pretty bomb and I'm glad I can still get me some Teriyaki chicken. Ordered their sushi roll, it said 8 pieces on description. This is what they gave me, and looks like incomplete order. I spoke to manager, manager doesn't care about customer. Will never go again. read more

I was pleasantly surprised with this restaurant as I only know the ones in mall food courts which exclusively sell teriyaki chicken. While they still serve their classic teriyaki, they also have sushi options - classic rolls as well as specialty rolls. We got the spicy tuna and the volcano roll. The spicy tuna roll was a little lackluster for me, but my mom and I enjoyed the volcano roll! Overall, this place is a good Asian fast food option. read more

It's weird seeing a Sarku that's not in a mall. This new storefront location replaced the old Five Guys in the Aspen Hill Shopping Center. The interior is bright & inviting and doesn't have the industrial look & feel like most places in the area do. I think it's exactly what you'd expect out of a Sarku. They seemed pretty on point with everything here for it being brand new. My only gripe is the teriyaki sauce. It didn't really do much to the food in terms of flavoring. Still prefer yum yum sauce with things like this lol. Not a bad option for the price point, and you could tell it's slightly better quality than the mall locations. read more

The cost was great for the amount they serve. I ordered a takeout, the beef teriyaki w/white rice and mixed vegetables. It tasted great! Don't be fooled by the name Sarku Japan, there are no Asian people working there but hard working Mexicans? They did cook deliciously. Only thing I didn't like, I waited for a bit to order my food and they charged $0.05 for plastic bag. Who knew restaurant charges for plastic bags. I recommend this place to anyone especially those are on a budget. read more

After turning into a franchise, the place isn't the same anymore like it used to be where it was in the Wheaton Plaza old food court on the bottom level. Their portions are smaller now, the mixed vegetables is now just shredded carrots and green cabbage (before, it used to also include bean sprouts, and broccoli), their extra sauce on the side is a bit more salty than sweet compared to before, and now you have to pay extra for fried rice or noodles and I believe it used to be free. I usually get fried rice when it was free; now I have to op for white rice for the first time in a long time. At least their fancy, reusable, recyclable, microwavable, dishwasher safe take out container with thei logo is nice.. read more

I gave them a try with my open heart as my initial thought was "whoa it's not in a mall maybe the storefront location is different!" Nope. I was totally wrong. And then I wanted to cry because this spot took over my beloved Five Guys. It's still food court food. Just not in a food court. Which speaks for itself. The food is exactly like their mall offerings: generic, limited, and bland. Actually, they have more vegetarian options at the mall food courts, which they didn't have here. I only noticed this because I'm allergic to shrimp which left my options here extremely limited. My two options were chicken or beef teriyaki. They don't even have vegetarian sushi here! So I went with the plentiful, yet blah, beef teriyaki and promised myself that I will never eat here again. Much like their mall offerings (at least the last time I tried it) it was boring, expensive, and not exactly screaming Japanese food. Unless, you're in Iowa (assuming they're not a hub of Japanese food!) At the end of the day, Montgomery County is so diverse. If you want authentic Japanese food go elsewhere. There are so many awesome family owned spots in the area that are cheaper with much better food and service. read more

Ok food but too.much plastic in the serving dishes which is disappointing. I had the tempura.sushi which was tasty and hot. My son had the shrimp bento box - he must have enjoyed it as he at the whole thing. But because of the plastic/waste issue I'm unlikely to return unless some thought goes into how to reduce this. read more

Quick delivery, I have never had an order where items were missing and that says a lot. The food is good.

The food is average but my main issue with this location is the consistently poor service. Luckily they are always very friendly which is worth noting. But unfortunately they forget items. We specifically asked for yum yum sauce as well as spicy mayo and neither order got the requested sauces. Also they should include chopsticks in to-go orders if you get sushi-- otherwise you get back to the office with no eating utensils :( read more

For the amount that was paid I would've thought the food is at least decent but was I wrong! Food at a food court compared to here is way better and you'll probably pay a lot less. Who doesn't love this at the mall?! Now it is at the Aspen Hill Shopping Center (It replaced Five guys) - it is next to the gaming store, Panera Bread, & Chipotle - so the tail end of the shopping center! Nothings changed about the good ol 'yummy yummy' sarku's teriyaki chicken! Inside is very spacious to eat and they have a lot more to offer on the menu (although I must admit, I haven't had it in awhile because I haven't been to the mall so I'm not sure if they've added new items to the mall menu), but I took a picture for all you yelp viewers to look at! They offer bento boxes and sushi rolls. I was tempted to try the sushi rolls, but I was craving the teriyaki chicken. The customer service was good. The reason why I gave it 4 stars is because I had ordered double chicken to go and when I opened the box up at home, it didn't look like double chicken. I felt a little cheated. Otherwise it tasted the same, oh and I replaced the rice with full-on veggie and that was an extra .70 cent charge. read more

As a Sarku-lover, I was excited to see a Sarku near my house so I came in for a quick bite. Pros: Lots of parking is a plus. Service was fast and tables were mostly clean. Cons: I ordered the chicken teriyaki with fried rice and vegetables. The vegetables were steamed and lacked any kind of seasoning. The fried rice had too much soy sauce and was almost inedible to me. The chicken was also too salty but at least it was cooked well. Maybe it was just a bad day for the cooks. I was disappointed that the food didn't taste like the good served at Sarku in Montgomery Mall. read more

This place is amazing! I personally had never been to a Sarku Japan in mall or anywhere so I was pumped. The food is reasonable, and they give you a lot! The one thing that would be great would be a description of everything, especially their sushi rolls before you get to the counter. As a first timer, it got a bit overwhelming. The chicken teriyaki over vegetables and rice was more delicious than any Japanese food ever was even at a high-class restaurant. The cooks certainly know what they're doing there and the two front girls Melissa and Jonelle at the Bergen Town Center (NJ) are so sweet and so intelligent and efficient that you never have to wait more than a minute online. read more
