Ordered takeout one weekday for lunch because we noticed their lunch special (11.95 for 3 rolls). Unfortunately was disappointing. David found a piece of plastic in his California roll. Overall we thought the rolls had too much rice (the eel roll especially). We'll stay loyal to Yoyogi in Gaithersburg, given that it's only 2 mins further from our new place and not significantly different in price.
After living only a couple minutes from Rainbow Sushi for over a decade, my family and I finally decided to try it for dinner. We dined in, but we observed that it is mainly for takeout orders. We all ordered bento boxes, and feared that it wouldn't be filling enough, so we also got the Singapore rice noodles. The bento boxes were definitely more than enough, and I was actually unable to finish it in one sitting. The miso soup was a bit salty, the rice was a bit dry, and the shumai was not authentic, but otherwise, the sushi was a good size and I enjoyed everything else! Since the restaurant has a lot of takeout orders, it seemed that they prioritized those over in-person diners, so the wait was quite long for our food to arrive. Best sushi in Germantown! The service is extremely quick and friendly, there is ample seating inside, and the food is fresh and delicious. I highly recommend for reasonable prices and great food. It's a very casual spot with easy in-and-out service. You can also order for pick up delivery and your food remains great quality. They have excellent lunch and dinner specials. My favorite rolls are the green devil roll and the tuna lover roll.
I ordered a Sashimi Deluxe on DoorDash (the DoorDash price is $40, whereas the actual restaurant price is $36) and the dish itself was pretty good. As you can see from the picture below, there are a lot of sashimi pieces. 28 pieces in total (2 crab stick, 2 shrimp, 2 surf clams, 4 white tuna, 4 yellowtail, 4 red snapper, 5 tuna, and 5 salmon pieces were what I counted). The pieces are slightly smaller than most other sushi restaurant's sashimi pieces, so the dish felt like it actually didn't possess 28 pieces (more like 20). As for the taste, all of the pieces were fresh. The wasabi and ginger were on point. The taste was solidly good. The only reasons why I took away a point in the review are simple: 1) the imitation crab stick did not belong in the set, and 2) the pieces are definitely smaller compared to other restaurant's sashimi offerings.

I had food poisoning for 2-3 days. AWFUL. The burritos were the smallest I've ever seen. They were more flat and oval, versus round like other sushi burritos. The rice was super sweet, way too sweet. And had a slight smell. Should have taken that as a red flag. We ate them and thought they were decent. But didn't plan to order again. Later in the day... I got so sick. My wife was sick for 1-2 days, my lasted for 2-3 days. It was horrible. NEVER AGAIN.
As soon as I opened the lit, there is hair into my soup - I complained and the manager was unable to get the refund since it's a soup - she wanted me to drive back and pick up the cash- 30 minutes driving round trip is not work my driving. Don't think I will come back . Ps: missing order I got before and had to drive back and pick the food up -
I never usually take pictures of my food I think it is tacky , except if I'm going out to dinner with my daughter and want to share with my son what we are eating. But there has been two times ( this is the second) time I'm doing this. I ordered. The Singapore style chicken noodles. First the chicken is cut so small you can tell this was chicken breast. So cutting chicken breast extremely dry. BUT the tinencey piece had NO flavor NONE NADA!!!!!!!. I asked for curry this dish as a whole is dry. It taste like they opened oodles of noodles got chicken from the corner of a flat top that was cooked this morning and threw 4 tablespoons of curry seasoning on it. Collectively I don't see a teaspoon of a shredded carrot no onion white or green onions in a mile of this dish. Now I understand that times have been tough and they want to conserve. I don't care the cost of food just do it taste good. That dish is so dry if I coughed you could see curry powder in the air. The sushi is not that good no big flavors of nothing either. Don't waste your money here find a another place. I ate the mango sushi and the egg roll the Singapore noodles I threw it in the garbage $14,00 down the drain.
Rainbow Sushi has some delicious Sushi and is right across the street from me so it's normally my go to when I'm in the mood for some Sushi. I normally call my order in for carry out and I must say they are very nice on the phone when placing a order. Food is always fresh and taste very delicious no matter what you order. I haven't had a bad meal yet. I will continue to dine at Rainbow Sushi.
Ordered delivery. My first time trying their sushi burritos. I got one with Crab stick, red snapper, yellowtail and the second with Crab stick, salmon, yellowtail. Both were delicious. Also tried the out of control roll as it's a popular choice. It was huge. The magic roll was also a good size. Both were delicious. I usually always get the volcano roll and always enjoy it. read more

Given the allergies we have, it's important that we are careful in placing our orders. I order a California roll without sesame seeds, and yet it has cucumbers. I asked about it, and was told this was the original way they make it. None of this makes any sense, but I can tell you that's a lie. What happened? read more

Rainbow Sushi has some delicious Sushi and is right across the street from me so it's normally my go to when I'm in the mood for some Sushi. I normally call my order in for carry out and I must say they are very nice on the phone when placing a order. Food is always fresh and taste very delicious no matter what you order. I haven't had a bad meal yet. I will continue to dine at Rainbow Sushi. read more
They offer deliver during Covid! Deliver was prompt and came faster than expected! About 35 minutes after ordering which was great. The sushi rolls are good quality and regularly priced. The poke bowl was a little expensive and I didn't love the flavor added on the salmon, it was okay overall. The mochi ice cream was really soft and tasty. Overall I would order again the next time I'm craving sushi! Everything was fresh and good quality. read more

It pains me to give any business two stars but I'm not sure I can give Rainbow sushi (delivery) more than that. We tried several sushi items and all of them were flavorless. The Green Devil roll fell flat without any spice at all, even with jalapeno on top. Same goes for the salmon lover roll. Mostly mayo and no spice or flavor at all. The crunch on top wasn't very crunchy either. The sushi burrito also didn't have any flavor despite getting it with spicy salmon and sweet potato. I had to pile on wasabi to taste anything. Adding insult to injury, the sushi burrito was tiny compared to the ones I've gotten at other local sushi restaurants. The chirashi bowl had basically unseasoned rice with the same flavorless fish. The only redeeming items was the beef teriyaki roll because of the teriyaki sauce. The most I can say about the fish, on the other hand, is that it didn't make us sick. With so many other exceptional sushi spots in town, there's no reason to revisit here, sadly. read more
This place has been one of my favorite sushi places since childhood. It's great for pick up and also dining in but is a very casual atmosphere. Recently I went here again after a long break and was very impressed with the new menu updates. I used to love getting the cucumber roll, avocado roll and asparagus roll. Now they have so many more veggie options and veggie options that combine more than one vegetable. One of the rolls has mango in it and it was so good! The other roll that really stood out to me was the vegetable tempura roll. It was made very well fresh and warm! Service is always good here and quick. I also recommend the gyoza! I've been coming to this place for many years and yes while it's not professional top grade sushi or fancy, it is very good for the price you pay. They seem to have a lot of take out orders and they also deliver. People do eat inside, but I think they are known in the area mostly as a good place for sushi take out. I've enjoyed almost everything here. The handrolls, the maki rolls. I love the soft shell spider crab app as well as the fried tempura. On this particular visit I had a huge bowl of chicken udon noodle soup that was perfect for a brisk cold evening. update 2/25/2015 - i'm hearing people found bugs? ewwww. this is surprising... they might have an infestation now. But this has never been the case all the times I've been here. I hope they get this taken care of :/ read more

This is my daughter and I's favorite sushi place! Sushi is always fresh and well prepared. Our favorites are the shrimp tempura, Philly roll, chicken teriyaki and spicy California roll. The shrimp potstickers are amaz-za-zing too! Also I'm not a big fan of Miso soup but it's delicious from here. One of our favorites is also Thai iced tea. It's never overly sweet and something we add to our order all the time. They are very prompt in service, take Covid seriously and have only once forgot an item. A major plus is they do delivery w Uber Eats. Prices are reasonable and staff is friendly and accommodating. It's next to my nail salon which is an added bonus lol. I just turned one of my very picky friends on to this place! She very much enjoyed it. Order sushi and don't hesitate! read more

Located In a shopping strip next to Popeyes, this place is consistently good. Is small inside - with 10 tables or so. They have quality selections, a great range of menu items and nice portions! Theu have Asian beers and sake, which is good. Whether you want strait forward sushi and sashimi to specialty and hand rolls to udon to curry to sushi burritos and now poke bowls - they have something for everyone it seems. Service is warm, fast and attentive. Nothing fancy but a good staple in the restaurant rotation. read more

After my recent experience with a sushi place in DC, I was loathe to try again less than 24 hours later. But, I figured, how much worse could it get? Thankfully, this place was great. I was made to feel welcome from the moment I walked in. The sushi chef took the time to ask me my personal taste preferences and that told me I had made a good decision to come here. The staff: welcoming, courteous and helpful. Edamame: beautifully cooked, but unfortunately not seasoned. I couldn't taste even a hint of salt. Eel roll and Alaska roll: wonderfully portioned, evenly cut, good seasoning to the rice. Chirashi: fresh ingredients, beautiful cuts, nice variety, wonderful flavors. The only drawback on this for me was the fake crab - it literally fell apart as we touched it. But it was still an excellent dish. Oyaku Don: this was fantastic - from the chicken to the sauce to the egg to the rice. Yum! I would recommend this place to anyone and will definitely come here again! read more

I definitely would recommend this place! For starters, I've been coming here since I was a kid - 13 years of loving this place! Their food has never ever let me down, it's always good even if I decide to try something new. The restaurant is incredibly clean and their staff is super friendly, and easy to talk to, especially if you don't know sushi-lingo! Don't know what to get? I recommend the Crispy Tofu or Rainbow Dumplings (apps), Sesame Beef/Chicken (entree), Japanese Handmade Noodle Soup, and their Unagi Rolls read more

Came here for lunch and tried their new Poke bowls. Being from Hawaii, I have a certain expectation. The fresh vegetables were a nice touch and fish was good. However, I'm not sure if they coated the fish with avocado sauce instead of poke sauce--the fish was TOO sweet. Either way would not order the avocado sauce again. Service was great. read more

My family and I will come here for dinner. The staffs are so friendly and the food are always great. I came for lunch by my self today, the sushi chef made me a special roll with crabmeat, cucumber, avocado in side and seared salmon on top. (The sushi chef can make a specialty roll just for you). All the ingredients are so fresh and taste great, too. We will definitely be back. read more

WARNING. WARNING. WARNING. **************HEALTH VIOLATION. HEALTH VIOLATION************* A friend and I decided to top by here because neither of us have been to this sushi place before. As we got there, its a small little restaurant next to Shoppers in Germantown. When we entered, as all reviews have noted, it was notable empty. The chefs were lounging on the chairs and over the tables and the cashier was as well; understandingly, it was slow and there as nothing to do. So as we entered, they didn't even really acknowledge us. I wasn't sure if we were supposed to sit at the teeny tiny table that had two setting set out but obviously could really only fit one person or the really big tables with 2 settings conspicuously placed out. I sat down at one but ended up moving to the other side with the bigger table because of the outlet to charge my phone and there was more lighting on the other side. As we sat, the cashier/waitress came over and asked us if we wanted anything to drink. We both selected water, which came out promptly but with no ice. She also gave us only one menu and walked away. I wasn't too sure what to do, so when she came back I asked for a second, which she then said was already at the table, but it was hidden standing up behind the plastic drink menu thing. We ordered the calamari appetizer (7.99) and the sushi boat (38.99 i believe). A little spoiled by the boat given at Yuraku, when it all came out on a plate and not a boat, I was a little disappointed but it wasn't much. The sashimi came out before the calamari did, but I didn't mind being it was only a few minutes in between. The sashimi tasted fine in pretty thick cuts. The calamari wasnt freshly cooked as I hoped, but it is what it is. The calamari was placed in a nice little oval plate. The lettuce and jalapenos were covered by the calamari. We continued to eat our food in peace. As we neared the end of our meal, we took a pause to just talk, and our waitress came over and began clearing our plates, but the calamari wasn't all done yet. We requested for her to leave which she did. But as I picked at the lettuce, I discovered it. ************In the dead center of the lettuce, beneath all the calamari, was EITHER a roasted/fried STINKBUG or a roasted/fried COCKROACH. It was disgusting. ******* (the only picture I took for the entire meal) To think, the bug could have been battered, and fried, and been even more hidden with the calamari or other food made me shutter. Initially I didn't believe that was really there, but my friend started picking at it and it definitely was a cooked stinkbug/cockroach. At this point in time, the waitress had left our check on the end of the table, and when I called her over, she then asked us if we wanted dessert, as if she hadn't printed out the check. I pointed out the fried bug. She picked up the plate, brought it over to the SUSHI CHEF (which had no part in cooking the calamari). He dug through the plate with his bare hands and I watched him pick up the bug. and put it back in. She continued to bring it to the back. She came out to the front seconds later, and took the calamari off our check, said "Sorry, this was the first time it has ever happened" and walked off. Understanding yes, I most definitely was not going to be paying for the calamari, but not offering anything off the rest of our check peeved me just a little. But I was too grossed out and wanted to leave ASAP. So we just paid and left. I assure you, I will NOT be ever coming back here again. read more
