Sarkis Pastry is next to Zankou Chicken which we visit a lot. I wanted a slice of cake for my birthday weekend, something simple, so we stopped in here. I got a slice of chocolate cake and my son wanted one cookie. They ended up giving us the cookie for free and the couple behind the counter were probably the owners. Unfortunately, the cake was pretty dry, but it was the end of the day. They have a lot of baklava which I've had before and is delicious, but I would stay away from the cakes which isn't their specialty. I just love that it's a mom and pop place, and they are very kind. read more

A small hidden gem in Anaheim was definitely delicious! We got some different baklava's and they were extremely flavorful and cut into small bite-size pieces. I loved the donut holes with honey. My co-worker loves baklava so I wanted to find a good one for her and saw this place with lots of good reviews about baklava. I came during my lunch break and parking was no trouble at all. The place was spacious with a good selection of desserts to choose from. The lady was helpful and offered me a free sample as well. I got the diamond and bird's nest walnut baklava along with their Shabiet ( filo sheets with ashta cream inside). The baklava was flavorful and on the crunchier side. There wasn't a lot of simple syrup which I appreciated because the other baklavas I usually eat are drenched in syrup making it hard to enjoy the overall flavor. They have an option for additional simple syrup on the side if you want your baklava to be sweeter. The Shabiet was also delicious; the filo sheets had the perfect amount of simple syrup and the ashta cream inside wasn't too sweet. Overall, a great balance of flavors! Believe me. They're always wonderful here and kind no matter what! The fataye is my absolute favorite. the way they prepare the spinach and bread is REAL and AUTHENTIC. We drive from south OC and it's totally worth the trip embarrassed to say I bought 3 and ate 2 on the way home to South OC but they are so good! Service was great, the worker offered us a few bites of items we hadn't seen at the Glendale location. Tonight, as I pause by my box of baklava I picked up at Sarkis the other day, I find myself compelled to just dive in and stuff them all in my mouth before the Old Man gets a chance. Yes. That good. Oh dang, he just snatched the last cashew filled one! The other two are pistachio filled, and I can assure you, they all are utterly divine! They are smallish, but so decadent, you will be satisfied. There is such a wealth of choices to make here. Noting our quandary, the owner(?) started offering us samples, to my utter delight. The syrup used on these is a simple sugar syrup, not rose water or honey that I can tell. The pastry is so delicate it melts in my mouth, and the filling is pure pistachio. And the only reason I did not buy any walnut ones too is, it seems I have a slight allergy. What a find! It's a good thing I live 30 miles away. These are some of the finest I have ever had the pleasure of popping in my mouth. They need a good, strong cup of coffee, if I can wait that long to make one! read more

I drive 30+ minutes from either Newport coast or Irvine to go to this AMAZING pastry shop... usually just for the BEST baklava in OC, but I always walk out with several boxes of goodies (gotta try them all!) Rita, the owner, is such a doll, and gives great recommendations. Everything here is very good. Baklava is #1 and I also love the knafe... it's HEAVENLY. I always walk out of this place with at least four boxes of deliciousness. Baklava, knafe, cookies, cakes- all made from scratch EVERY DAY. I love it. I came here because the lady at the shop said that they have baba rum. It was a small sponge cake has been soaked in syrup for days with a piece of pineapple and maraschino cherry and whipped cream. Way too sweet. Cannot taste a molecule of rum flavor. It was a waste of gas, money and time driving here attempting to satisfy my craving. It definitely not baba rum like I had in Greece and Italy. I always come here whenever I'm in southern Cali for their znoud and makaron. The prices at this bakery are incredible and the quality of their pastries and baked goods are excellent. This time the znoud was sold out, which was a bummer. Theirs is the best! Znoud is very difficult to find. In Rhode Island we have to order them online in bulk for an arm and a leg from a bakery called Shatila in Detroit, MI and they aren't fresh nor taste as good. I would like to complain that the fillings is not enough, but I can't because they are very reasonable priced! $5 for 5 different kinds of baklava and pastry that you can actually enjoy heartily without having to do squirrel-sized bites fearing you might finish it too fast. By flavor and texture alone, this is indeed the best baklava around here. This is the first time I can thoroughly enjoy a cream filled variety. Usually either it's too sour, or too salty, or both. All of the variety tastes just right with perfect amount of sweetness, and crispness that lasts! Sarkis truly do not have have the word 'soggy' in their cookbook. So we stumbled across this bakery a few days ago and purchased a Yule log cake for Christmas dinner. The cake was not fluffy yet flat and so dry!!!! It was liking eating the actual log. No joke. We bought for $50 and had to throw it away. Just called to let the owner know. He insisted that he's made 20-30 of these cakes for the holidays and no one has complained.
