Plain Dosa

Decided to try out Saravanaa Bhavan on way back home. Place was packed, we had to wait due to that. Once we got our seats, we got the menu and ordered our food Wait time was terrible, we had to remind the staff that we ordered food and the food came in increments. My wife finished her dosa by the time I got my meal and she got her coffee after her meal was done. This was not acceptable. Also there were flies flying around. The food did not make things better - the following were ordered -Paneer Biriyani -Mushroom 65 -Plain Dosa -Coffee -Mango Lassi The paneer biriyani had no flavor The mushroom 65 had no dips And the worst thing about the entire experience is when we ask someone for our order , we had to ask for each one instead of all of it so the wait time was awful. I am from India, I eat Indian food at home almost every day and have been to multiple Indian food places such as Aga's, udipi cafe, Nirmanz - and have to say this is the worst Indian food place of all places I visited. The food rate was expensive compared to other places and the service was really bad. I do not recommend as there are better Indian food places in the Houston area.

Despite all the negative reviews, we decided to give this place a try and were pleasantly surprised. I question why this place has such poor rating. Some reviews mentioned cold food, slow service, or dirtiness, but we didn't experience any of that! In fact, the food came out hot, fast, and the entire restaurant was clean and modern looking. It started making me question whether or not competitors wrote fake negative reviews or perhaps the restaurant drastically improved over time. Whatever it may be, I recommend you come and give this place a try to see for yourself. Just know that they serve only vegetarian dishes (don't expect any butter chicken or tikka chicken masala). We ordered the following: Gobi Manchurian Paneer Butter Masala Channa Batura Mysore Masala Dosa Milagapodi Dosa I recommend these dishes. Great flavors and easy to share with a group of people (assuming you are ok sharing sauces), making it a nice social experience. The waitress who took our order was patient and friendly, though I wasn't impressed with the person passing out our food. Overall, great place for vegetarian Indian food!

I had been here a couple years back and the food was good for our group of 16. Fiest this is a style of Indian food that is Vegetarian. It's spicy hot of you choose it that way. It's mild if you also choose that way. If you are expecting North Indian Food or meat dishes with Tofu or paneer substitute... It's not that. If you like South Indian food, this has been for my two visits quite good. Today I came in w my uncle and a lady friend. All three of us really enjoyed our meals. We tried everyone else's dish because that's how we roll.

Service in this branch is better and so us the ambiance. Chole bature is almost the same as in the other one on Westhimer but coffee- am not sure its today or its changed- it was NOT filter coffee, it was NoT strong or enough hot. Rava dosa was good though and so was the baalekai bajji ( pronounce baa+lay+kai bajji as in plantain fritters Indian style) So to summarize: Food - yes yes Coffee - no no ;)

Plain Dosa

Really good food, very authentic for someone who loves a good authentic South Indian breakfast, Indian ambience, spacious and good service. Busy on weekends but still very fast.

The Dosa here is amazing! The service can be a bit slow when they are busy and it seems to be service without a smile but there is a sincere care for their business. I brought my daughter this time around and the older gentleman who monitors was inquisitive and also showed us the proper way to eat some of the dishes, explaining what they sides were and it was a very kind gesture.

The menu is very big. Descriptions aren't the best, some dishes have the exact same description so it's hard for someone who's new to Indian cuisine to know what they're getting into. Overall ok.

Decent option in the Sugarland area when I have dosa cravings. Dosas were okay, not bad. Rava masala and Mysore dosas are comparatively smaller in size than what several other restaurants offer. Dosa sides were refilled upon request. Chana batura was so crazy oily, they didn't let the excess oil drip out of the batura. Not ordering that again for sure. Also, tried their highly reviewed Madras coffee however, I dint find anything special about it. Coffee comes in a small sized cup. Ordered some fried rice and mango lassi for the kid, and that turned out really good. Light and fresh fried rice and nicely balanced mango lassi. Its a nice dining spot for dosas or other vegetarian meal, unlike many other dosa places that are aimed towards to go.

Good option to try out to satisfy your masala dosa craving. This restaurant has a lot of different South Indian veg foods and varieties of masala dosas. I tried the Mysore Masala dosa which is a spicy rice crepe filled w potato mixture. It comes with your standard accoutrements including a tomato chutney, sambar and other cold white chutney which might have had coconut in it. It was pretty good although I wish it had a bigger portion of filling and that the filling was a little more firm. Service was dismal however and the food was very pricey. Took a while for our waiter to come to us and they were very unfriendly. Not sure if there was a language barrier but honesty it was confusing as the restaurant wasn't full and they were just standing there. My bill came to almost 17$ pretip that's including a small Madras coffee. Which brings me to...the waitress took away my Madras coffee (very good, small portion tho-less than 6 oz I would say) before I was even done w it!!! Like I had a quarter left. Annoying. We were also quickly given the bill without any questions asked about whether we were ordering anything else (which my friend and I were contemplating). This is still a pretty light lunch and is a good option to try for this type of food if you're in the area!

This is one of their meals. It was wonderful.

Naseeb Indian Restaurant - garlic naan, rogan josh, tikka masala, basmati rice

Naseeb Indian Restaurant

One of my biggest surprises in my recent adventures to Sugar Land was finding Naseeb, a seemingly…read moresmall and family owned Indian spot that has been around for many years. Sandwiched between a department store and an ice creamery, it blends in a little too easily with the rest of the strip mall plaza and would be easy to glance over in any other scenario. Luckily for me (#1), I stumbled across their simple, but flavorful lunch buffet and haven't looked back since. The restaurant looks small from the outside and is most definitely a modest interior with very minimal decor (#2) and a handful of tables. The family running the place is incredibly friendly and does a good job of keeping the place clean, replenishing items on the buffet and labeling the items properly. Some immediate standouts included: a wonderfully sweet and addicting mango lassi, a silky yet delicate coconut korma fish curry, a strangely addicting garlic naan that paired nicely with their butter chicken, a nice crunchy kadhi pakora, along with some veggie friendly and delicious chana masala + malai methi paneer. The mixed appetizers were a blend of fried foods, which included a not-so-mini samosa(s) and a very crunchy aloo tikki. While I wasn't in love with the roti, vegetarian spring rolls, or the goat achari, I can tell they were only slightly less appealing due to how wonderful everything else was. I'd happily give these items another shot on a future. Finishing it all off with a delightfully sweet galub jamun made for a perfect ending to the meal. $15 is a solid price in 2025, but I really just appreciate that the food was simple, fresh, and abundant with a little pretension and lots of opportunity for solo dining. ___________ (#1) Trust me, I'm the real winner. (#2) And fabulous sign that reads: "Delight in every bite, but waste not a single bite. - ChatGPT"

The chicken was undercooked to the point it was still red, and was obviously inedible. As if all of that weren't bad enough, it had a toxic odor to it, like plastic had been burnt in or near it, or worse. It was just inexplicably awful. Two other dishes were mostly oil and water with almost no flavor at all. Easily the worst Indian food we have ever tasted. When we called to request a refund, the owner said he could not refund any order placed online. One star is too good.

The interior is really well done, the colors and design is very contemporary and tasteful. I guess it raised my bar on what to expect. It was really hot outside there's constantly excessive heat warning when you drive. Yogurt based drinks like lassi and buttermilk are kind of go to drinks at this time ( buttermilk more than lassi but I didn't see it on the menu) so we ordered lassi. In the starters section of the menu they have both Indian and Indo-chinese options and some new ones too. We got the beet corn patty chat and the Chilli Paneer. It took forever for the starters to come but when they did, it was hot and tasted great. The right crispy, the right spice, and got our hunger working. Then came the lassi- it was.. stale.. ya, that's the right word, we ordered four types and none were good. I will NoT recommend it. For main course we got jalapeño stuffed bullet naan, butter naan , roti and one North Indian thali. The sides we chose were Lasooni paneer and Veg Kolhapuri. Lovved the naans. They were fresh and soo yummy. My fav was the bullet naan. I went ahead with rice and dal from the thali as I had a sort of craving. Half way into the small bowl I developed uneasiness and that happens if there is too much soda in the food- which, am guessing m, there was. And I had hardly eaten 10 morsels. Not a good sign. For dessert, there was jamun that came with the thali and the manager also got us complimentary mango mousse, both were delicious. I would probably go again for their naans and starters.
