Our experience at Saranello's was just that, A-okay. Reservation was made and they seated us right away. No problem there. Waitress was polite but very talkative, not terrible. However, she was also waiting on several other tables so it was difficult to flag her down when we needed something. It was evident and she seemed very flustered trying to manage it all. Nothing against her as she did a great job but I would expect a place like this to have a little more waiters on staff on a Saturday at 6pm. The food was okay, though the potatoes/fries mixed in with the chicken vesuvio were absolutely covered in the sauce. Which was a real bummer, so if you like crispy fries ask for it on the side. And the chicken was rather flavorless and not very big. However, my dining partners fish was excellent so kudos there. Desert was pretty good, though lacking for a true desert lover. The place itself is very rustic, wood themed and dimly lit. Parking was a bit of an issue as we had to park quite a distance away from the entrance.. they offer valet but for a price. If you are seated in the tables in the middle it will be hard not hear your neighbors conversations as the tables are VERY tightly packed. Prices were a lot higher than I expected. But if you come during their happy hour 3-5 you can get some great specials. I would be willing to try them again, I will just make sure to order something else next time. read more

Love this place! Every time I've been here, the service was wonderful, the staff are attentive and friendly and seem like they want to be there, the food is amazing, bread is delightful!! I can tell the gnocchi is made in house and it's soft and pillowy. The mussels or clams are cleaned well and taste amazingly fresh. First time I came in was after my boyfriend and I biked 10 miles on the DPR and decided to stop in there for a halfway lunch. They still accepted us (we totally didn't realize it was higher end!) sweaty, bug spray ridden, and with a fishing pole on his back! Any skepticism they had definitely only showed a little bit on their faces, but still provided great service and we ate like Kings before hopping back on our bikes. Positives: made reservation and we were seated right away, great cucumber martini! Not so great: waitstaff not very friendly, they were very loud, tables packed so closely together one busboy hit the waitress in the head with a crate of glasses and one waiter hit one of my guests in the head with dirty glasses he was carrying, our order took over one hour and the fish and chicken were very dry. We are long-time customers but had a miserable dining experience. We were there with another couple and our entrees didn't arrive until well over an hour after we ordered. This was after it took us 3 requests just to refill our iced tea. They only came after I asked to see a manager after our server came up with an excuse that didn't make sense. Even then, we only got 3 of our 4 entrees and one of them had to be returned because it was cold. The manager never came to check on us. No offer to comp or replace anything. Ironically this week we had a lot to celebrate and this was the 3rd LEYE restaurant we ate at this week and the other two experiences were wonderful. So disappointing! read more

We frequent this restaurant as it's close to my wool and everyone we take here is impressed. The service may be the beat part, always top notch and excellent. Let's start with the meet all appetizers... all of them are great. Not sure I could come here and not order them. I don't have anything that I get regularly but I've never been disappointed in anything I've ordered. The Fish is consistency good and if you don't like it the way it's prepared on the menu, no problem they change it. The pastas are also a highlight as are the desserts. After the Easter fiasco years ago I had no plans to go back. Tonight a friend and I went on a whim. And a gift card. We were the only people seated outside and our server Bobby was very attentive. We both ordered the homemade sangria. My friend's came in a broken glass that leaked everywhere. Bobby quickly brought her another. The sangrias were just ok. She had the beet salad and I had the Italian salad. Both were delicious. We split a gnocchi dinner which was good and key lime pie which was ok. We loved sitting outside and we enjoyed our meal. I came to Wheeling for a dance convention at the hotel to which this restaurant is connected. I made reservations for a few of the other parents as well as myself. The staff was very accommodating both on the phone and in person. We were seated promptly and the ambience was hectic but comfortable. Our waiter was extremely friendly and for the most part prompt. I can only speak for my meal - the squash risotto - which was good. When we come back next year I will definitely eat here again. read more

As the description of a two star on yelp describes, "Meh, I've experienced better." I feel this place is more american than italian. The bar is huge with a great selection of beer, wines, and liquor. For a slow night, it appeared there were at least three bartenders at once, a little overkill. When we were seated at our table, our waiter was awesome. Great sense of humor and answered any and all questions asked with great detail. Throughout the night he was attentive and made his rounds timely. The food was just blah, and maybe it was just an off night for the kitchen. Nothing really to think, "wow, I want to go back." The calamari was bland and rubbery, overcooked. The lasagna I ordered tasted interesting. I dont know if it was the type of meat they prepare it with, or the seasoning, but something was just off. It didnt go well together with their marinara at all. The meatballs also did not taste like pork of veal, more like ground italian sausage. Dessert turned me off entirely. WTH is banana tiramisu? No place in Italy did I see a banana tiramisu...There is nothing Italiano about banana tiramisu, especially when Saranello's refers to itself as "Ristorante Italiano." I settled for the marscapone pie, which was nothing special. Tasted like it came out of a box. Overall, I feel I paid a lot of money for something that wasn't worth it. read more

It's great to find a restaurant that is consistent with their food. Staff is always friendly, making sure that everything is in order and well taken care of. Their oil is wonderful! This is another Lettuce Entertain You restaurant. Saranellos makes all it pasta in house which no one can complain about it freshness. They have an extensive menu of very nice Italian dishes. I had spaghetti with pork and veal meatballs. Mrs K. had the Chicken Lemon. The portion sizes were very ample for the price. The food was in my opinion very much 4 star food. The spaghetti noodles were of a consistency I have never tasted before and the meatballs were top notch. Our server was just overwhelmed by how busy the house was on Saturday night. If you asked for additional bread he said yes and no bread came. Wanted another drink no problem but you did not get your drink. So would I go back? Sure. Will I go back since I do not live in Chicago area then I doubt I will be back. On a side note conversation was almost impossible with the noise level of this place. read more

We were staying at the Westin for a soccer tournament which is connected to Saranellos. We did not plan ahead and were hoping for 30 of us to have dinner. Matt worked with our party and was able to seat all of us at various tables due to covid restrictions in a timely manner. The servers and staff were very attentive and the food was served quickly and hot! Many choices to choose from including pizza, hamburgers, salads, short ribs and lots of pasta dishes. We cannot thank Matt and his staff enough for a wonderful and easy dinner for an entire soccer team during this pandemic. read more

This restaurant is severely understaffed. I came here for a breakfast at 7:25am. I waited more than 5 minutes at the front desk with no one coming. After sitting down, I waited more than 5 minutes for a coffee and over 30 minutes for an Omelette Denver meal. There were about six customers within the restaurant at the time. I chatted with the waitress about the situation. She explained she was the only person serving the restaurant; there was only one chef; and there were some takeout orders from the Westin Hotel where this restaurant resides. My parents love this restaurant. I'm not a fan of their dinner however their weekend brunch is amazing. Love their omelettes. They have a huge variety and it's a wonderful display. Disappointed with the Sunday brunch buffet. Have been there pre Covid and there was more variety. From tea selections to desserts, they have cut down on selections, costs, and quality but kept price the same for a very basic buffet that aren't all that presentable (visually). This is a limited variety of mediocre quality foods. I would say this place is worth no more than a 19.99 to 24.99 USD experience. I hope they improve as I would love to go back. The ambiance is still very nice and there aren't buffets around the area. I would rather pay more for a better quality offering. read more

I was taken to this restaurant while I was here on vacation. Even though this is part of a chain " let us entertain you," this restaurant was wonderful. From the fresh warm bread served with oil and parmesan cheese, to the Caesar salad, we shared it was great. I am sorry i didn't get the waiters name. He was pleasant and efficient. Pistachio crusted whitefish was phenomenal. Cooked to erection and served with brussel sprout slaw (a little sweet for me because I am diabetic.). What an absolutely awful experience! I went out to dinner with a friend last night, and after a lot of searching for different options we decided on Saranello's. I wish we didn't. We got there and there was a really long line, so they said it would be an hour wait. I left my phone number with the hostess and she said she would call me when our table was ready. We went to the bar to wait and let them know. First, we ordered a Montepulciano at the bar. We tasted it first from the open bottle and the taste was awful because the bottle was old. We figured a new bottle would be better (we love this type of wine). The wine was gross and just kept getting grosser the more I drank it. I felt terrible asking for a different bottle because the bartenders were so busy and rude. I couldn't keep drinking that nasty bottle of wine, so I did ask, and after a show of annoyance he poured a few other options for us to taste and we did find a decent red (for $20 more) We were hungry and after almost an hour ordered a beet salad. The bartenders were so rude I felt bad asking for that as well. After an hour and 20 min I went up to ask on the status of our table. The guy said we were close. Again I let them know I had my phone and we were at the bar. After an hour and 40 min I went up again and the lady shared that they must have missed us. I was astounded with how they missed us, when I had my phone with me the entire time and told them where we were. They started making excuses about being busy. I don't think that holds any water, a popular restaurant has to have a process in place for seating people where you don't just lose them. The manager came out and was apologetic, but also gave excuses about being busy. I will say our food came out quickly and it was good, not great. The manager did comp our food, which was the right thing to do. To add to all this, at one point a busboy came out and was flinging dishes, and this white sauce ended up in the booth, table, and in my hair! What a way to add to a terrible night! I wanted to go out and enjoy a tasty dinner and good wine. It did not at all happen that way. I will not be coming back to this resturaunt. read more

Last night we had a reservation using OpenTable for two. When we arrived, the host staff were jovial and friendly. One of the leads or managers gave us a challenge and if we guessed right he would buy us a free appetizer. The question was "who is the bad guy in the show The Boys. We got the answer right, Homelander, and I selected the mussels appetizer. It had the most delicious red sauce and I soaked that sauce up in the most delicious fresh Italian bread. My boyfriend got a breaded fish and ordered the most delicious old-fashioned cocktail. I love that place and I'm gonna go back. Very good Italian food and awesome staff. I had lunch at the bar today. I had Randi as a server and she recommended the salmon on the express lunch. It was outstanding. I fully enjoyed it. I have been here for buffet brunch and a weekday dinner. The brunch had a lot of variety, more "gourmet", yummy mimosas and awesome bloody marys. For dinner we sat in the private area hidden by a curtain. Great space to have lots of family or friends and to be away from the restaurant noise. We ordered a few appetizers including the sausage, kale salad, calamari, and a couple more that I do not remember any more. All the appetizers came out quickly and were delicious. It took a long time for the waiters to take our main entree orders, and by the time our food came out after the appetizers it was at least an hour wait after we placed our order. It's good that the whole family was just socializing,if it were a calmer event people would have gotten very frustrated waiting for over an hour for their entrees. I should point out this was a week day and the restaurant was not extremely busy. The main entrees are huge, so make sure to split a dish with someone. We tried steak, and that was perfectly medium cooked. I had a taste of the chicken parm and that was very tender and not to saucy (which I like). Overall it was a good experience. Good food. Nice private area. Okay service. I'd come back for a celebration. read more

Had a big family dinner last night (Nov 1, '19). My experience was mixed, at best. I generally judge restaurants on many levels, including service, appearances, and food quality/presentation. Good: The service was very good. We had a reservation for 6.30 and the table was ready on time. I always appreciate that. Table service, filling glasses, taking away dirty/used plates & flatware, order accuracy, etc. were all very good too. Food quality. Appetizers for the table were two plates of calamari, one fried, one grilled. The grilled was very tasty with a light dressing, marinated vegetables, served over a bed of lightly wilted arugula. I would not order the fried as all I could taste was breading. For entree' I ordered linguine with clams and red sauce. I was *not* impressed. Portion size overall was fine, but I thought the clams were lacking in both quantity and size. I think I had about 8 or 9 clams in the dish. Where I was really turned off was the amount of red chili spice in the red sauce. The red chili was so potent as to completely overwhelm any flavor of clam or tomato or fresh herbs (e.g. basil). Furthermore, there was not indication on the menu of "fra diavlo" or any other statement indicating a high level of spice, nor did our waiter give any indication either. I might be coaxed back, but would *not* order the clams & red sauce again. Moreover, I'm tempted to tell all my friends to avoid the restaurant. - Brad read more

The food was good but the wait service was really poor. They appear not to have adequate staffing. My waiter check on us once in 25 minutes where I asked him for a drink, and he forgot about it. The next time I saw him was 20 minutes later where I just asked him for my check. He apologized for forgetting my drink. They charge a processing fee if you pay with a credit card , really? We visited this restaurant on a Thursday night. There was an event going on in the hotel, so in turn this place was packed. One would think that a Lettuce Entertain You restaurant attached to large hotel could handle the crowd.... wrong! They were running around and didn't attend to our table for a long time. When someone did arrive, it took forever for a glass of water. Base in the service I would give this place 3 stars, however, the food redeemed itself- landing it at 4 stars. We ordered two different fish entries. The pistachio crusted white fish was great. I would recommend it. Also, if you do come for someone's birthday, like we did, make sure to mentioned it. Welp... that didn't go well. I recommend this spot because I've always had great food and good service. We got 1 of those...it's Saturday night at 8pm. I get it, but from the start with the hostess commenting on our "costumes" (we were all dressed up but wearing vests) followed by a totally inattentive server everyone was rethinking the choice. I can't comment on appetizers cuz he never asked, nor asked if anyone had been there before. C'MON this is Lettuce 101!Only got one drink. Gee glad we started at the attached hotel so we could walk back. The fresh baked bread looked great but it took 4 tries to get oil or butter and by then it was cold. WTHeck? Each busser looked around nervously. It's just butter people! No server, they are off talking to other waitstaff on what they are eating. The entrees were delicious by all accounts. I had a chicken and peppers that was super good. The eggplant parm was amazing. (No really) someone said it was the BEST filet they've ever had. We only found out there were specials because there was a paper on someone's plate. Glad we saw the Ricotta with truffle oil and squash. I would eat that ALL day!! Dunno about desserts no one wanted coffee so the Server arrived with the check. Pfft. What? Cut off from dessert?? One plus the server was very nice to do separate checks and put in our points. Overall Super disappointing and I felt responsible for suggesting Saranellos but not as bad as the person that made the reservations and convinced everyone. Next time Buca di Pepo or Coopers Hawk. I just work too hard to get an evening out to leave so disappointed it was the talk of brunch too where the Diner waitress out performed our Saranellos server. Total bummer read more

I'm not understanding the poor reviews here! My husband, grandmother, and I made reservations for Saturday night - boy I am glad we did! There was a huge wait - be sure to make reservations. My husband and I usually do not like going to restaurants - we are almost always disappointed since we cook better. Not the case here! Their food was amazing and super high quality. I got the shrimp diablo, my husband got the cheese ravioli, and my grandmother got the pistachio crusted whitefish. All were amazing, nothing bad and we thoroughly enjoyed the meal. Dessert was the mocha gelato with hazelnuts - to die for!! I absolutely hate going into the town of Wheeling, but will come back here again just for this restaurant. read more

Dinner is the best, as the summer weather sets a nice romantic backdrop. A glass of wine on the outdoor patio, a bite to eat, and definitely save room for dessert. Sunday brunch is 2nd to none. I ordered from this restaurant using Door Dash. I got a pizza with sausage and a Greek salad with house vinegarette. The pizza looked yummy but it tasted terrible. There was an overwhelming sweetness to the sauce and pizza crust, otherwise, very little flavor. The salad was ok. The house vinegarette was mustard based and did not taste good or go well with the salad. Will not order from here again. read more
