Had I written this review 8 years ago I'd be writing how lovely & sweet Dr. Mansell is & recommending her, but after working with her for nearly a decade I can resoundingly say she was my biggest healthcare mistake. My health only deteriorated on her watch with multiple missed diagnoses & failures to treat, including something as pedestrian as diabetes.
Kaiser has honed the art of defensive medicine to a fine craft. If you don't know what defensive medicine is, you should look it up on Wikipedia, truly, Kaiser should be credited for its creation. Dr. Mansell is the perfectly trained Kaiser employee who never thinks for herself & does what she's told, regardless if it's not good for you. She'll write scripts & referrals but if your health picture is remotely complex, you'll be hard pressed to ever get off the merry go round & down to brass tacks.
I gave Dr. Mansell ample opportunity to help me. I even brought my eventual diagnoses to the table by name long before they were diagnosed due to having been left no alternative to spending countless hours researching on my own time, doing her job to figure out what was wrong with me. But, over and over again when I'd bring up these diagnoses she'd feign ignorance, never bothering to look them up to see what fit while providing everything BUT the right tests, even when one of them would have taken her all of 10 minutes to do in office. You would think after all that, when you finally find out you were right all along, that just maybe you'd get an apology. Maybe your doctor would say they were sorry for wasting years of your valuable time, for making you feel hopeless, powerless, for allowing your health to degrade in front of their eyes & doing nothing actually useful to intervene; maybe they'd give you just an ounce of recognition or acknowledgement. No. Dr. Mansell couldn't even mutter the names of my diagnoses after they became formally established, and it gets worse.
What do you think happens once it's known there was medical negligence & you complain about it? I hope this never happens to you but if it does, you should be prepared because you will only be further victimized by the very system that already fucked you over & led you on an endlessly barren trail to no where. You will be villainized in your medical records which will become a breeding ground for doctors to plot a legal defense rather than responsibly used for their intended purpose. Important reported symptoms will be omitted or replaced with less severe symptoms & you'll have symptoms attributed to the wrong side of your body. Dr. Mansell is very good at the latter & very good at writing vague clinical notes open to later interpretation to suit. Instead of receiving any compassion or empathy for what you may have endured via insidiously negligent medical care, your doctor will become the contrived victim, alleging things you never said, or even implied --- it's just business to them. You're only an easily expendable commodity.
Dr. Mansell failed to intervene as I was prescribed numerous medications with severe interaction ratings, three of them carrying warnings of a HIGH probability of death, even as I complained of the very symptoms indicating potentially fatal interactions were occurring. In spite of laboratory evidence & multiple classic symptoms, she even failed to diagnose and treat diabetes. She did nothing as her colleague, Dr. Pitroda, strung me along a protracted evaluation for many of the symptoms which were related to un-controlled blood sugar. (see my review for Dr. Pitroda) She also failed to order timely MRI imaging of a proximal hamstring rupture & due to delayed imaging and surgical intervention, my sciatic nerve is now covered with scar tissue & extremely painful. She hasn't checked my cholesterol in years & let a swollen arm go mostly unchecked, except for ruling out DVT but nothing further. She failed to diagnose 2 concussions or even respond appropriately the last time I reported a head injury. She's suppressed reported symptoms, breached HIPAA privacy rules & blatantly lied about it. All this in addition to missing 2 other disabling conditions that could have been easily diagnosed without expensive tests and would have saved countless wasted appointments & frustrations & got my care on the right path years ago. Don't be fooled by the charming Australian accent & kind bedside manner, when it comes down to it, she doesn't give a shit about patients.
I've always been drawn to soft, sweet personalities & easily deceived with a few kind words. If only I had listened to friends & family who tried to warn me away from Dr. Mansell. I can't express the hollow, gnawing ache I feel in the pit of my stomach when I think of how this doctor failed me. Dr. Mansell is a fraud & has only pushed me closer to my grave. I wish I'd never met her, let alone ever trusted her. read more
