That was odd because usually the hairstylist would only cover the customers' eyes. It was difficult to breathe. Also, she told me to sit up while she was still drying my hair at the back. Usually, the hairstylist would have wrapped my hair before they told me to sit up. She made me look bad and uncomfortable. I asked for layers and she did not give me a lot of layers. She said she would give me a little bit. That was not professional. The she tried to make my ends curly using the hair dryer and I told her I wanted my ends straight. She did not understand layers; she kept asking if I wanted thinner hair. I said no. She asked me twice if I wanted bands and I say no. Moreover, while she was cutting my hair, she let the hair fall onto my hands which could have been avoided. She did not put on the cape for me - she needed me to hand the other side to her instead of putting it on me. The service was terrible and she was indeed incompetent. Furthermore, when I said the haircut looks good, she kept on cutting. I said, "It's good' several times and she was still cutting my hair. Then she asked my sis, who was sitting beside me, "Is she okay?" I did not know why she said that; she was embarrassing me. When she finally stopped cutting, she looked at me with an anxious look and told me I could go back if there is any problem. She made me look bad with her exaggeration. In addition, she left a lot of the hair on my face after she finished cutting my hair - she only handed me the tissue box when I looked at the mirror and tried to wipe the hair off my face. Moreover, she and another hairstylist were chatting and looked at my sister with a weird gaze. That made her uncomfortable. When I tried to pay, the receptionist showed me a higher price after he knew that I was paying in cash. Why would they charge less if you are paying with credit/debit card? That was not right and he did not explain. Then the receptionist said, "No change? Tips?" after I tipped them. He was insulting. I think they knew that they should not treat customers this way and this was why they charged me $3 less. I was surprised when I saw the price but now I understand.

A hair salon should always keep the place clean. It is better for them to use a towel to cover the customer's face when they wash the customer's hair instead of using a small paper because the small paper is useless - it falls off easily. Other hair salons use a small covering. I told the hairstylist that I wanted to have the 'U' shape for my hair but she cut my hair into a 'V' shape. She fixed it but then she flattened out my hair so it was not a curvy 'U' shape. I did not say anything because I knew that she was incompetent. Moreover, she tried to use the hair straightener to curl my hair without asking me first. So I stopped her immediately. The hairstylist should always ask the customer's preference before doing anything to the customer's hair. She did give me layers as I requested, but I noticed that one side was shorter than the other when I got home (it was not easy to see the difference at the hair salon). Also, she did not trim the edge nicely. P.S. My sister, who was sitting beside me, told me that my hairstylist looked annoyed while she was washing and cutting my hair. In addition, the young male blonde hairstylist pushed the small cart close to my sister without saying 'excuse me.' That was rude. Furthermore, he made a hand gesture when he asked me if I wanted to pay with credit card or cash, and he stared at the cash plate when I tried to tip them. By focusing on the money, he downgraded the image of the hair salon.

Booked a haircut for my son with Wanda through Fresha.com. Checked in, and got him seated a bit earlier than the scheduled appointment. I figure I'd stay to make sure everything went ok since it's our first time with Initial. While waiting, I asked if they take walk-ins. Unfortunately, they only take appointments, but they're able to squeeze me in since another client was willing to move her appointment a bit later (thank you to that young girl). Hiro took care of my cut, and it turned out amazing. Both my son and I are loving our new fresh cuts--thanks Wanda and Hiro, you guys are amazing! Poor technical skills, damaging results, terrible aftercare advice, and highly unprofessional behavior. Save yourself the stress, money, and hair damage. I asked for an olive brown color with the least possible damage, but instead returned home with hair that was green, severely dried out, full of breakage, frizz, and flyaways. The damage was not immediately noticeable because of the special salon lighting used for photos, but in normal lighting it was obvious how bad the result was. It was honestly the worst salon experience I've ever had. My hair looked unhealthy and the color was nothing close to what I requested. When I contacted her and sent photos showing how badly it turned out, she apologized but advised me to use purple conditioner--which only made the green tint worse. Even basic color theory would suggest using red or orange tones to counteract green, so this advice was shocking coming from a professional. I only asked for a refund of the gratuity, not even the service itself. She agreed, but then canceled the transfer immediately after sending it and acted as if payment had gone through. When asked for proof, she only provided evidence of initiating the transaction on her end, not confirmation that it was actually received. Instead of resolving the matter professionally, she began making accusations toward us and the bank, and threatened lawyers and police before disappearing entirely. At that point, it was no longer about the refund--it was about honesty and accountability. Mistakes can happen, but how a business handles them matters. Instead of properly correcting the situation, she chose dishonesty, intimidation, and blame-shifting.

Then she came back and said something to us and she brought us inside and gave us a look indicating that we should have followed her. But she should not served both customers at the same time. She gave us a chair which was full of hair. It was gross. We asked her if we can move to a new chair or at least have someone to clean it. Then she told another employee to clean it. She cleaned it unwillingly. However, the other chair had hair as well (we needed two chairs because my sister went with me) so we asked them to clean it. However, they said it was just stains on the chair so I showed them the hair. Then the employee use the hair dryer to blowdry the hair but the chair still had hair. Moreover, the other employee with a cart full of tools pushed towards us without saying 'excuse me.' It was rude and the employee conveyed with this gesture that we had invaded her space. She should not give customers attitude like that. It is a sign that we should leave. Another employee came to us with a fake smiling face as we were waiting for them to clean the chair. It was weird. I told them that we would leave as they kept laughing and said those were just stains on the chair (but there was hair). The point was not about the hair; it was their attitude - they were unapologetic and dismissive. The attitude was unacceptable for a big company like this.

Why didn't she simply bring me to the adjacent clean seat? Then she told me she needed to wash my hair twice without telling me why. Usually, the hairstylist would wash my hair once. Sitting there for a prolonged period was uncomfortable. When she wiped my ears with the towel, she harshly wiped off the foundation on my face as well. When she dried my hair with the towel, she pulled down the back of my shirt at great length and I felt my shirt label had flipped over. Moreover, she pulled one strand of hair from one side of my head across my forehead to the other side unnecessarily. This made me uncomfortable indeed. This never happened at any hair salon. I was shocked that she was so crass. Usually, the hairstylist would be gentle to customers. Furthermore, her scissors touched my lips when she was cutting my hair. It was dangerous and unhygienic. So I asked her to give me a facial tissue so I could clean my lips and I told her that her scissors touched my lips. She looked surprised and apologized. Her carelessness was unacceptable. When she held the mirror to show my hair at the back after she finished cutting, she did not show me the full view. Then she said sarcastically, "You can't see? Do you want me to take a photo for you?" Her attitude was atrocious. It was suspicious because she did not show me the length of my hair after she finished cutting. Also, she kept curling my hair using the brush with great effort, and she twisted my hair to form a bun on top of my head. I did not ask for curly or wavy hair (no hairstylist did that to me in the past). Later, I realized that the length of one side of my hair was a little longer than the other side. That was why she did not show me the full view of my hair and she just went straight to blowdrying my hair. That also explained why she curled and twisted my hair because she did not want to cut my hair (she did not want to do her job). I told her to trim a bit more because that was not the style that I wanted (I already showed her the photo of the hairstyle). When I looked at my hair carefully, she made fun of me and said, "Do you want to comb your hair?" and she gave me a comb. Who would treat customers that way? After she trimmed my hair, the hairstyle was still not right. I asked her to give me some layers. I realized that she did not want to give me layers by saying, "You did not really have layers, do you?" when I sat down at the beginning. Instead of saying that, she should ask me if I wanted layers. She said that to discourage me from getting layers. Moreover, she kept telling me to move back and forth when I was seated for both washing my hair and cutting my hair. If she is skillful, she should not need the customer to move constantly. She took a long time to blowdry my hair. I saw that the length was not right. Then she said, "The style is like that because of the blowdrying. Do you want me to blowdry it more?" I asked her to cut a little more and then she said, "I can't really cut it." That just means she was using blowdrying as an excuse for not cutting my hair and to disguise the wrong length; she was deceitful. In addition, she left a lot of hair on my shoes. She only blew them away when my sister noticed that. This could have been avoided if the hairstylist was attentive. Overall, the price just reflects the hair products that they use and the interior design but not the quality of service nor the skill of the hairstylist. She was not professional at all. Their regular customers must be their friends or relatives. P.S. They did not ask us to put our purse into their cabinet which had a key attached. They usually store customer's purse there and let customer keep the key.

A little about my hair: dark brown hair, thick, box dyed a few times. Few tidbits of Jenny's Hair Studio: - Her salon is out of an attachment to residential house. - Cash Only - Very Reasonable prices I've been researching for months on where to dye my hair. I wanted a change and caught onto the ombre/bayalage trend. I've had my hair dyed without bleach (at May's Hair Salon), but I knew an ombre/bayalage job would be more complicated. So I needed to find the right place. A lot of salons I've researched were priced between $170-$250, which was quite expensive for me if it didn't turn out the way I wanted it. I stumbled upon Jenny's instagram (http://www.instagram.com/jennys_hairstudio) and fell in love with the pictures. Many of them were gorgeous and exactly how I wanted my hair to be done. I was a bit weary that there was no website for the salon. But I was convinced by the pictures so I gave her a call and inquired about a dye job. I spoke with Nicole and was quoted $130 for the dye job. Happy with the price, I booked an appointment. Service #1 - The Ombre/Bayalage dye job: Nicole fit me in on a weekday evening. I got to the house salon around 530 and didn't leave until almost 9pm. It definitely took a long time, but I'm not surprised. The outcome was GORGEOUS. I could not be more happy with Nicole's dye job. The colours were totally blended. I received lots of compliments and inquiries on which salon I had it done at. Price: $130 + $10 extra bleach = $140 The job: bayalage/ombre on my previous box dyed hair. I had red undertones (which I hated and wanted to get rid of) and Nicole covered up some of it with a few highlights. She said my second dye job will be less red. I'm not surprised cause it takes time to get the tone right without kiling the hair. While having my hair done, I chatted with Nicole to find out a bit more information about the salon. Jenny is the owner and while she does everything, she specializes in hair cutting, where Nicole does a lot of the hair dying. She said Jenny came in top 4 for a hair cutting competition. So, about a month later I booked a hair cut with Jenny. Service #2 - The haircut: I booked a hair appointment with Jenny for Saturday afternoon. When I arrived, Jenny thought my appointment was with Nicole, but I specifically asked for Jenny. The problem was that Jenny had someone (who was getting her hair toned) in her chair already. It ended up being a double booking. I wasn't in a rush so I didn't mind waiting a bit. Jenny applied the toner to the girls hair and let that sit, while she started on my hair cut. It started with a wash/shampoo which included a mini hair massage. Then she cut my hair while it was wet. If you've read my previous salon reviews, you know I struggled with finding a good hair stylist. I've been to expensive places only to be disappointed. My go-to hair stylist is May's Hair Salon on Victoria Drive (May's is a basic cut, no wash/shampoo/style, 15 minutes, kind of place), but sometimes a girl likes to be pampered you know? Hearing that Jenny came top 4 in a hair cutting competition, I was expecting great results. But I did feel that the cut needed a bit of guidance. There wasn't as much body as I wanted. And we had to work on my bangs twice until I got it close to where I wanted it. She finished up and started drying and comb curling my hair. I wasn't completely satisfied, but felt that she needed to get back to the girl who still had toner in her hair, so I told her I'd wait. I said I wanted more body in the top, more umph! Jenny put rollers in my hair instead of cutting it. And I just left it at that. I went home and waited a few days to see how I would like the haircut. It wasn't bad, but I expected more. I don't really feel like my hair was cut. I will probably go to Hive Hair Spa or May's in the next few weeks to get another cut. Price: $40 Few end notes: Considering this is a house salon, there are a few pros and cons that go with it. - When you are having a long service done, you get to relax and watch movies on the tv. More exciting than reading magazines in a salon. - I hate to write anything negative, but I would say it's less professional than if you were to go to a salon. Both times I went there, it seemed like the clients were friends/family and sometimes whoever was doing my hair would get distracted from the appointment with me. With that being said, it's something I can look past because the results are spectacular. Overall: I won't go back for a haircut, but I'll definitely go back to get my hair dyed by Nicole/Jenny. She is amazing and I would definitely recommend her to anyone.
