We went there for our appointment. The receptionist said something to us when another customer came after us then the receptionist made a hand gesture while talking to us and the customer. We could not hear her because she was masked and she spoke softly. She was confusing with her hand gesture. So we stood there as the customer followed her inside. Then she came back and said something to us and she brought us inside and gave us a look indicating that we should have followed her. But she should not served both customers at the same time. She gave us a chair which was full of hair. It was gross. We asked her if we can move to a new chair or at least have someone to clean it. Then she told another employee to clean it. She cleaned it unwillingly. However, the other chair had hair as well (we needed two chairs because my sister went with me) so we asked them to clean it. However, they said it was just stains on the chair so I showed them the hair. Then the employee use the hair dryer to blowdry the hair but the chair still had hair. Moreover, the other employee with a cart full of tools pushed towards us without saying 'excuse me.' It was rude and the employee conveyed with this gesture that we had invaded her space. She should not give customers attitude like that. It is a sign that we should leave. Another employee came to us with a fake smiling face as we were waiting for them to clean the chair. It was weird. I told them that we would leave as they kept laughing and said those were just stains on the chair (but there was hair). The point was not about the hair; it was their attitude - they were unapologetic and dismissive. The attitude was unacceptable for a big company like this. read more

I'm obsessed with this salon! Jacky did amazing! It's been 3 years since I last dyed my hair or did anything to it. It's practically in need of a make over. When I tell you Jacky did a miracle, she did. I feel completely like a different person and not only that, she was going through the process with me to make sure I knew what she was doing. 6 hours went by so fast and it was a lot of fun! Thank you AirPlus & thank you Jacky! Will be back soon!! read more

Thank you Tokiya! Now this is a colourist. Just got my hair dyed, cut, and treated in that order. Asked for an upside down ombré (lighter on top) with a red ashy brown colour and that's what I got. First time a hair stylist didn't try to make chit chat and just patiently worked on my hair. when I asked for any recommended products he said I didn't need anything special. Clap clap Skill: - No pain (very gentle) it's rare with long damaged hair - Relaxing hair wash - Very meticulous while colouring - Hair dye didn't smell too strong Interior: clean and modern Price: market price for this level of salon Service: gave water, a towel while washing hair, and a locker for your things. Checked on hair as needed. Thanks to all the assistance and boss for helping to complete this look! Good team work. read more

Air Plus - Hair Salons Near Me - Richmond, British Columbia

I made an appointment here because I wanted to color my hair and wasn't able to make any appointment elsewhere the next day. I asked the reception how much it would cost for full hair colour and she quoted me $100 so ok. It was Friday but was quite quiet. A master stylist helped me with picking a colour. After 2.5 hours I am a bit disappointed. 1)the color turned out not to be even as it is lighter at the top. 2. It was not really the colour I expected. 3. When I went to pay. They charged me extra $35 for shampoo and blow dry, which I was not expected. I was assuming that color would include shampoo and blow dry. How can someone color their hair without shampoo and blow dry? I asked about the fees and they said they will talk to the manager but the manager was so rude, he did not even come to see me. He sent a message saying it is listed outside on the store that the cost of shampoo and blow dry is $35. I can see that but that should be included in the color cost, which I think they tag on so you will end up paying more, quite sneaky practice. I will not be returning or recommending anyone to come here for any service. Maybe that is why I was able to get an appointment so quickly. read more

Me and my mother have been coming here for the past few years whenever we're in town, and we loved that we were able to trust any of Air Plus' stylists with our finicky Asian hair. Unfortunately, after our more recent experiences, we will never be coming back. We're not sure if maybe the management has changed at some point, but the quality of the salon services and employees have drastically plummeted. It's extremely inconsistent. What used to be a thriving Japanese salon with amazingly talented, friendly stylists is now just a sorry excuse for a business that seems to have trouble keeping employees, as I can never seem to book the same stylist for more than a short period of time nowadays. If I ask about any of my previous stylists, for some reason they refuse to divulge any information and give excuses - probably to retain my sales, as I've literally bumped into a handful stylists that the salon claimed "moved away". Just... weird. I've noticed that the salon has become more empty over time and I'm really not sure if that's actually because of the pandemic or just because they've lost their touch. Either way, it's a shame. I tried to give it a few more chances, but the results have been disappointing. If you ask about ANY of the stylists mentioned in any of the previous reviews, good or bad, you won't be able to find them here anyways. My advice would be to always research your salon/stylist properly, but come here if you're okay with gambling which stylist you'll get and what level of skill you'll receive. * And to management - I can't say I know the full story of course, but based on my experiences as a long-time client of yours (as well as having experienced some verbal hostility coming from the boss/manager(?) to their staff right out in the open in the salon.. maybe don't do that??? Not a good look, dude.), I just hope you can learn to manage and treat your staff better. Your business is only worth as much as your employees. read more

It's been almost a year since my last salon color service, and I was a bit anxious to get it done since my colour and hair had grown out and looked like a mess. I looked up a few salons to go to that looked like it had good colourists, and after getting a few quotes, this place seemed to be in the middle, so I went in for a consultation and they were able to get me in the soonest. Some of the results posted on Google and Yelp by junior colourists looked ok, so I thought it'd be pretty safe. I showed the stylist what I wanted during the consultation and she did a few strand tests and provided a quote. I told her that my main goals were to blend together my new growth and change my colour to an ash brown (at the time it was silver/purple with my black regrowth about 4-5 inches). I also wanted some highlights to blend in my white hair. I appreciated the time she took and all the questions she asked so I felt comfortable enough to trust her. I don't think what I wanted was extremely difficult and should be achievable with a somewhat experienced colourist. I asked her if we could achieve the results in one day, and she said just one session was fine. I went in to get my hair done a week later, and she spent a fair amount of time weaving out babylights, and I'll admit I have lots of hair, so it takes a lot of time. We bleached the new regrowth, and toned (or dyed?) the previous colour to the ash brown we discussed during the consult. After we were done processing and when the hair was dry, I noticed that there was a 1inch band around my hair where the old and new growth meet so I didn't feel it blended well. I pointed that out to the stylist and she agreed and asked me if I had more time so she can fix it. I was free until dinner time so I agreed to stay. She applied more bleach, but this time weaving some new sections that were not previously bleached. She processed this for a shorter time than before, so after washing it out, it was still at an orangey/red stage. She toned it and told me that it would fade out later on. I was tired after 7 hours in the chair, so I paid and left to meet my parents for dinner. Chinese parents never hesitate to tell you when something is wrong! My mom pointed out right away that the two tone colour looked off. In hind sight, it looked much better before she "fixed" it. I really hoped that it would fade out, but after a couple washes, and reading hair forums, I realized it was never going to blend. I called the salon after 2 weeks and asked if they could fix it. They said they don't do free redos after 1 week but told me to come in anyways to see how much it'll cost to fix it. Even though I was annoyed about this, I figured, if it's cheaper than it is for me to fix it myself, then I might as well get it done by a professional(ish). I went in and asked if she could just remove the brassiness. She said she would have to bleach it all again and couldn't do just small sections like that. She'd have to charge me for it (the amount was probably what people would pay for a whole head of colour). This is unfair, since if she had just left the bleach on long enough, it probably wouldn't have ended up so orangey. I told her I felt that I spent enough on this (the service was $400+ with tip), and I refused to spend more, especially since I was provided a quote to achieve a certain result. Also that I only came in 2 weeks later rather than 1 because I wanted to give it a chance to fade. She felt that it didn't look that bad, so I thought it was useless arguing and I didn't want my hair redone by someone who didn't think there was a problem to so I walked out and decided that I will warn others of this lack of competence and poor customer service. I'll even help advertise what they feel is an acceptable product by their standards! read more

Air Plus - Final result was brassy and looks nothing like the reference photo. - Hair Salons Near Me - Richmond, British Columbia

Usually I get my bangs trimmed at this place, however, this time I was so disappointed by the result. My hairstylist ikki made my bangs uneven and thin even though I had specifically asked for thick and straight bangs. When I texted her about it, her reply was "that's why I told you to get the straight perm" (something she was trying to convince me to get for my bangs) which has nothing to do with her results. My hair was 2 months old, getting streaky and brassy and I started to get bored of it. My friend recommended this place to me, so I decided to check out their Instagram and give it a try. I went in for a consultation and was told it might take me 2 sessions to get me light enough for an ash tone and pastel pink tips. The quote given to me before the 20% off discount (I chose Jeremy because he had a discount and based off his Instagram, his colouring skills looked really professional) was $335. After 20% off it would be $268. I went in after arranging a date and time with Jeremy @jerebearhair through Instagram. It took a while for him to get to me when I arrived on time as he was finishing up with a client but I was fine with that. I sent him the photo of the hair I wanted and he started right away. I arrived for my appt at 2pm and we started at around 2:25pm. He was very kind and accommodating. Excellent customer service... when he went off to get food for his break while waiting for my hair to bleach, he even asked if I wanted anything! When they blow dried my hair, his coworker provided assistance as well which was nice. It took a really long time because he ended up being able to lift my hair light enough in one session, but it took two bleaches. I ended at 8pm (5.5h total). However, when he finished, I wasn't happy with the colour. The blend was excellent, but the main colour was more silvery/grey than I wanted and the pink was more purple than anything. I expressed my concern to him despite his great effort, and he said I could come back for free to get it fixed. The total ended up being $407. This was divided into bleaches, colouring, smart bond, and shampooing/massage. I assumed everything was packaged together despite me not requesting some things so I was fine with that. I did not, however ask for smart bond, which he put in and charged me for anyway ($30). I informed them that I didn't request to get smartbond added and they swiftly took it off my bill. I will update this review when I go back for the colour fix! Definitely recommend and would come again!:) UPDATE: I just got my hair recoloured by Jeremy and it looks fantastic! A little uneven, but exactly what I wanted colour wise:) Since I already went and told him to change my hair completely, I felt bad so I didn't ask him to fix the evenness I'm happy the colours are right! UPDATE 2: I just looked at all the photos side by side and I realized it's my fault that I asked him I wanted exactly what was in the photo because he did exactly that and it just so happened I didn't like it read more

My gf went in to get a touch up as her hair grew out. While she asked the "master stylist" for a "balayage", the stylist gave her a "global bleach" resulting in severe burns to the scalp. What was supposed to be very simple and only take 2-3 hours (as advised by the manager) ended up taking 7 hours. Ultimately, the hair was not blended in well at all and was clearly visible that the top half was blonde and the bottom half was grey. Being far from satisfied, I called back numerous times to speak to the manager (Barney) but were met with new excuses each time as to why Barney couldn't speak to us. The receptionist was rude and would swear under her breath when we asked for the manager. After calling back many times and leaving my number, Barney finally got back to me and invited us to come back and get it "fixed." The manager and I mutual agreed on the phone that we would be given a FULL refund and have a stylist fix the mess that is my gf's hair. When we arrived to get the hair "fixed" we were given a refund first; however, midway through the appointment my gf was asked to pay for her appointment today or they will stop all work being done. This was absolutely bizarre and we felt lied to as we were promised something different on the phone. She ended up paying again as she was left with no choice, but was ok with it as long as the hair was fixed and confidence was restored. After only 1 wash a week later, all the toning and color immediately washed out and we were back to the blotchy 2 toned hair (even after using the recommended purple shampoo). This is utterly unacceptable as we have now paid over $400 to get half a head done, sat in a chair for cumulatively 9 hours, and were treated poorly. Because the initial stylist damaged the hair beyond repair, my gf has to either dye it dark or cut it all off now. Due to the trauma and disappointment, we hoped to get a refund again and take our money elsewhere to get the hair salvaged. We called back to speak with Barney and not to our surprise, more excuses as to why he couldn't speak or even answer texts on his personal phone (I was given excuses like "he is busy" or "at lunch" but the funniest one yet was "he's on vacation"). For 3 weeks I tried to get a hold of Barney but was turned away each time from their receptionists. I had hoped to solve this privately with the manager before having to escalate and take legal action; however, Barney refused to communicate with me and Airplus ended up blocking my phone number. Ultimately, we have paid $400, sat in a chair for 9 hours, received nasty service, and will have to pay another $300-$400 at another salon to fix a mistake that AirPlus made. read more

I've been going to Eddie (a director) for at least 15 years. I first saw him when he was working at Zeal in Aberdeen, then when he opened up Tokyo Allure at Westminster Hwy (right across the street from Richmond Centre, and when he opened Air Plus by Tokyo Allure inside Richmond Centre. He is very detailed with his cuts. He's also very quiet and not a talker which is perfect for me because I don't want to feel forced to make small talk just for the sake of it. Highly recommend Eddie if you're looking for a great cut. I usually just cut my hair once every 10-12 months because his cuts last that long. I recently saw Jeremy (a new stylist) for my cut and balayage. The colour is amazing but the hair is sub par in comparison to Eddie. Highly recommend him as a colourist though. The salon itself is very clean; they always sweep up fallen hair right away, not just when the cut is done. There's plenty of parking because it's inside a mall. They take reservations by phone. read more

I've never posted a negative review but I have to say Air Plus Hair really drove me to proceed with this . I've gotten many Japanese straight perms over the years on my natural non-coloured hair for the sole reason to keep my frizz under control. I've been through good hair straightening processes to mediocre ones. At air hair, I spent 4 hours (not to mention $300) to get my hair straightened. Only to find that it wasn't really straight. So the week after, I went back to my guy for a consultation. He insisted I stay another 4 hours to get it redone (which was nice of him to be fair, I know his time cost money) . I stopped him though and told him my concern of my hair damage and frizzy. This guy then tells me it'll be fine so I believed him (stupid me). Well not only is my hair not straight now, it is destroyed (looks like wires) I would pay an extra $300 now, if I could turn back time and pretend this never happened. In retrospect, I should've followed my gut and said "No" or asked for a keratin treatment to make up for a poorly done straightening job. To make matters even worse, I texted the stylish, only to have him ghost me afterwards. He was the one who asked me to follow up with him on how my hair goes! I guess he just did not care. You'd think a junior stylish would strive towards improvement and be okay with taking some constructive criticism. So.. yea. Needless to say, I wouldn't recommend going to Air Hair Plus for any perms, unless you want to pay $300 towards having your hair fried up to the point of no return or if you're looking for bad advice..and somebody who won't look for your best interest at heart. read more

terrible experience!!!!! First a young female stylist told me she does not know how to do the style I requested.... then she got me another stylist....I showed the stylist one example and he claimed that my hair is too hard to make that style but then I showed him another more generic example. He said ok. but the hair turned out so ugly and super short.....He seems only be able to do one short style. He did what he is good at which is different than what I showed him....The excuse is my hair is too hard. But I had this style before. It is definitely doable! Avoid this place!!!! read more

I got a haircut and colouring from Maisie last Friday. The result turned out to be very disappointing. The hair style and colour were not I requested. We speak the same language, so there should be no problem with the communication. I've been a client of Taka's for more than five years now and I've strayed on occasion only to return to him. He used to be at Zeal in Aberdeen. He's good at listening to customer needs and then providing suggestions for what would work best in terms of cut and colour. Although he can take a while cutting and/or colouring hair, it's all worth it. I had my hair cut and hair treatment in this salon twice by one stylist (junior). The stylist (Koi) is very polite and very careful with his hands. He takes his time in taking care of my hair and applies proper draping to make you feel comfortable while he washes your hair. He anticipates what you need even before asking like taking your coat and offering you drinks and reading materials. The good thing about this stylist is that he educates you how to take care of your hair and gives tips how to create the look on your own at home. So far I am very happy with the service and the hair cut. I am very particular with my hair and it's been a struggle to find a stylist I could trust with my hair. I can say I finally found what i been looking for. Price for service in this salon is expensive but i always leave the salon with great looking hair so its all worth it. read more

I've been here twice. It is located inside of Richmond Centre mall, near to the mall exit. The service is excellent. You can either book an appointment or just walk in, but obviously if there aren't a lot of hair stylists working then you're going to have to wait. There are a lot of stations but I have never seen every station occupied by a stylist. Also, everyone in here seems to speak Japanese (Of course, it's a Japanese salon) but they seem to understand my English quite well. As a client, you can lock up your personal belongings in a locker and you are given the key to wear around your wrist. They take your jacket and give you a robe to wear. Then you sit down at the station, and if you have to do any waiting again they offer you a drink. I've had the same stylist the two times I've been here. The first time, she was just available, and the second time, I actually booked an appointment with her. She takes the time to sit with me and ask me what I want. I show her pictures and then she tells me what she can do. Then she writes down what I'm going to have done on a piece of paper, complete with how much it will cost BEFORE she starts doing the work. I appreciate that. I'm not sure if the other stylists do that though. It could be because I always get a lot done (various hair colouring procedures). The technology in here seems very futuristic. The machine they use to heat the hair is really interesting. Anyway, the final result wasn't exactly what I wanted - Although my hair colour did end up looking beautiful still and I just loved it. I understand with hair colouring, there are a lot of factors that change the result (like hair type, if your hair is dyed already, your current hair colour...etc.). She also said she didn't want to dye my hair to the point that all my hair would break and fall out. For reference, I have black hair and was asking for almost white hair in one session. Totally understandable. The only negative thing was the price for me. Too expensive. I remember another client came in - a little boy (he looked about 8 years old) - and they said it will cost $35 to give him a hair cut. read more

I have been to this location twice, both times as a walk-in appointment and with a different stylist each time. The price is certainly not on the low side, especially at a Richmond hair studio, but you get your money's worth. On my second visit, the stylist yukari was very meticulous and diligent. The haircut I got was exactly what I asked for, despite it requiring extra time and skill. I would recommend this salon to others and was very happy with my experience. read more

A couple of friends had come here before and had good experiences, so I thought I'd give it a shot. Unfortunately, I really wasn't pleased during my experience here. I brought a photo for reference of the colour and style I wanted and explained that I wanted a silver ombre. My stylist kept telling me it was a balayage (it wasn't). I explained a few times to emphasize that I wanted an ombre irregardless, rather than a balayage, as I like the look more. I left with a balayage anyway, and a light brown one at that (which I later realized was all my stylist really does judging from others' photos, which is good, but only for those who want that style). I phoned in prior for an estimate of how much my desired ombre job would cost at my hair length and texture, and when I went in, I ended up paying three times what I was told to expect. I was disappointed. If the receptionist wasn't sure what to quote me, she should've told me to come in so a stylist could give me an accurate estimate, or at least just tell me she wasn't sure. But I was misled about how much I'd be expecting to spend. She didn't tell me her estimate didn't include additional fees like toner, etc. and apparently $30 to wash my hair. Not sure if I've just been to more considerate salons in the past, but the cost of a hair wash really should be included in any bleaching session (where not washing your hair is impossible). The actual final product was ok, it was nice, but it wasn't what I asked for. It's frustrating because it just wasn't what I paid for, which was already so much more than what I was told to expect too. My stylist was nice and friendly, but that's not enough to make up for the fact that I had to try to negotiate what I wanted, and didn't end up with it anyway. Also, the most insulting thing was seeing my stylist on Instagram pretending that the copper colour my hair was during the initial bleaching was a before picture.... Really? I went in with BLACK hair and it was shocking to see them act as if I went in with a nasty copper self dye job. Huge red flags there. Seems like false advertising if you ask me. Honestly, for $400 (not to mention this was after a significant discount going on at the time!), Air Plus really let me down. The amount of money I paid really wasn't worth it. The staff tried to be nice and the salon itself was clean, but the service was the worst outcome situation I could've prepared for. My hair simply wasn't what I wanted. I regret not going somewhere else. If you're considering whether or not to come here to give it a chance, for the amount of money you spend, I wouldn't recommend Air Plus. read more
