From the very beginning, the front office staff was incredibly kind, professional, and made scheduling an appointment so easy and stress-free. Dr. Whang was truly amazing. She was so warm, patient, and attentive--she really took the time to listen to all of our concerns and answered every single question thoroughly. What stood out the most was how she connected with my 11-year-old son. She spoke directly to him, made him feel comfortable, and even took the time to answer his questions in a way he could understand. That meant so much to us as parents. It's not always easy finding a doctor who is both highly knowledgeable and genuinely compassionate, but Dr. Whang is exactly that. We left the appointment feeling reassured and cared for. Dr. Whang is the ideal eye doctor for children with her calm & gentle demeanor. She's a very experienced & knowledgeable provider. Her staff were also kind and helpful. I first emailed and then called the office the next day to schedule an appointment and was seen much sooner than anticipated so was thankful for the smooth process. She was referred by our optometrist (we live in Irvine) and we also found out a close friend's young son who is autistic also goes to her. We had such a wonderful experience with Dr. Whang. We had to follow up with a pediatric ophthalmologist after my 13 month old didn't pass his vision screening at his annual pediatrician appt. From the very beginning of calling to schedule an appt, her office was quick to answer and get us an appt in a couple of days. Most ophthalmologists were booked for over a month. The office staff was very kind and efficient in getting us scheduled. When we arrived, they barely made us wait and Dr. Whang was very quick to see us. She is so calm, warm, and kind and made us feel very comfortable. It's always hard to bring a 1 year old to a dr's appt but he barely cried and she definitely had great communication skills speaking to babies. She was so good with him. Me and my husband are very pleased with our visit and are truly so grateful to Dr. Whang for making this a great experience for my 1 year old. We have been seeing Dr Whang for 2 years. After looking for someone who could help diagnose the issues my 10 year old was having. We called around and other doctors had long wait lists to get seen for new patients. And on top of that one had a huge office fee ($150 each appt) since they are with UCI now. I was delighted to be able to make an appt quickly with Dr Whang. Our first exam was very thorough. She kept asking myself and daughter if we had any questions throughout the appt. With an eye patch strategy and a prescription for glasses we left the appt with a plan for vision improvement. My daughter has always enjoyed her office visits and we have never had to wait more than 5 minutes to be seen. Dr Whang is very friendly and caring too. 5 stars from this family! read more

I took my son there as a baby when he was not tracking and with suspicions of Nystagmus. She was very unprofessional. Told me my son does have Nystagmus, will have very poor vision for the rest of his life, may not be in a regular class, and will not be able to drive. She gave us zero resources, only a one page pamphlet and that was it. I left the office in tears!!!!! By the way, found another ophthalmologist who actually did prescribe him glasses. My son is almost 8 years old now, reads ahead of grade level and in a normal class. It's been almost 8 years and I am still traumatized from this visit. read more

I cannot recommend Dr. Whang enough! We were referred to her because my son had a blocked tear duct that hadn't resolved by the time he turned two and was seen by her for a little over a year. We were immediately impressed by her kind bedside manner, ease in which she answered our questions, and obvious passion for her career. Her methods of assessing wiggly little ones is absolutely masterful. My son would ask us to go visit her! She performed a small surgical procedure on our son to open the tear duct. I so appreciated that she gave us her cell number and called us multiple times in the few days following the procedure to check in on us. My son and I came here for a second opinion on two separate occasions for concerns with his vision. Both times we felt we received excellent care. Dr Whang was very patient with my son when he was answering questions. She has excellent bedside manner and we would highly recommend her to others. My daughter had issues with her vision, so our pediatrician referred us to Dr. Whang. She has been very thorough with her examinations, and my daughter enjoys her visits with Dr. Whang. The office building went through some extensive renovations during 2022, and the building is now looking pretty great. We did have some hiccup with scheduling and insurance, but Dr. Whang personally called us to clear up any misunderstanding. You don't get a lot of personal service like that these days, so we really appreciate her both as a doctor and as a fellow human. read more

WOW what a terrible experience we had with this office. We had an appointment that we had to cancel the day of bc my son was sick and they had the nerve to tell me I had to pay a $50 cancelation fee. I expressed that he was sick and did they want me to bring in a sick child for an eye exam and they said that was there policy. They also said it would be a $10 copay for my insurance however if it was for an eye exam it would be $55. What else would we be there for she's an eye dr. The receptionist was so rude. I highly recommend not talking your child here. Seems like they only care about money and not the wellbeing of your children. read more

The office is located in a stand alone building with plenty of parking. There is a parking garage entrance towards the back. We came in to see Dr. Whang for strabismus. I can't imagine this doctor having anything less than a 5 star rating average. The facility was a little confusing at first to find because it's a quick, random turn and the building doesn't look like it would be a medical building in my opinion. There is plenty of parking. It's located on the second floor as shown in photo. The waiting room is stocked with classic, very cool toys for the child to play with while he waits. The medical assistants are very kind. Every time I come here I am seen a little earlier than my actual scheduled appointment. The doctor is very knowledgeable and it is easy to tell that she has a passion for what she does. She's very very very nice! My 9 month old son loves coming here which is always a great sign! read more

So our daughter was continuously blinking and doing some strange things with her eyes like they were bugging her so we brought her to our pediatrician and she referred us to Sarah Whang. The office was a little hard to fine but after we found it the first impressions were good. They have a small play area with a movie playing and quite a few toys and books while you wait. The receptionist was great and shortly after we got there we went into the office. Sara Whang was so great with our daughter and made sure we felt very comfortable there. She always asked us if we had any questions regarding anything they were doing which was great. The rooms were also very big in size. NO THANKS. went to this Dr. for my 2 yr olds eye and after 1 visit (dilated her eyes and prescribed glasses) coincidentally the next day she had a really bad eye infection, full of goop and swollen (supposedly just pink eye?) but anyway, we were leaving on a trip that was already planned and booked for the following day. I called to see if they can squeeze her in, I was willing to wait for however long I need to. she and the receptionist refuses to let her in. We tried working something out but they won't budge. I brought her in anyway and she made me waited 2 hours which was fine with me. When we were called in, the Dr. full on "investigated" me as to why I had to bring her and wouldn't bring her earlier etc. full of attitude. in front of my baby I stood calm and allowed her to be rude to me. Anyway, I let it go and continued to come to her. finally, today, she has another appointment for her FEVER, she's been sick the past 3 days. I've tried calling her office the past 3 days and they never picked up. I'm not a person to leave a vm I guess in which I should've so they can't fault me. I've left one before and not like they get back anyway... but anyway, finally they picked up 2 and a half hours before my appointment and said to reschedule I would need to pay $50 fee since it wasn't 24 hr noticed nope. i even told them my daughter is SICK. was i auppose to predict that?? maybe i should just bring her in to let them ALL catch what she has then??? NO THANKS. I will NOT be back oh.... and to top everything off, all her instruments are ANCIENT. looks like she has never upgraded anything. it's almost like u walked into an antique shop. AND... after the visit the kid gets a sticker.... my daughter got one and she was sweet enough to grab 2, the other for baby brother which CAME WITH HER. like standing right in front of their face and the receptionist told my daughter NO. only 1 for u. wow. really?? ur cheaping out on ONE STICKER?? how petty! I've been bringing my son to Dr. Whang every six months for the last several years. His first visit, at 9 months old, she was unable to confirm the problem we suspected (strabismus), but she had us return six months later and was able to diagnose him and prescribe glasses to help. Dr. Whang's manner puts my son at ease, and he has no fear about visiting the eye doctor. Even when he must have his eyes dilated, he recovers quickly and is happy to spend time watching a movie or playing with toys in the waiting room while the drops work. She also put me at ease with my own concerns about the condition, and is very knowledgeable and reassuring. The office staff is quite efficient, and the appointment reminders are helpful, but not excessive. read more

We were referred to this office by our daughters pediatricians office. I'm so happy that we went w it. Upon walking in, the woman at the front desk was very welcoming! The office itself is very child friendly. Lots of toys, books, and a movie playing while they wait. The wait itself wasn't crazy either. After completing paper work, we were put into a room right away and Dr. Whang walked in minutes later. I can not say enough good things about Dr. Whangs professionalism, sweetness, and kid friendliness! She was able to perform the exams she needed on our 3 year old including getting her eyes dilated. Our daughter did end up needing glasses and Dr. Whang explained her prescription to us and where we could get the best glasses for patients her age. Dr. Whang is AMAZING! She was so patient and kind to my daughter who injured her left eye by getting glitter in it. She was so warm and welcoming to us. She ran all sorts of tests on her eye & thankfully her eye healed 100%. I highly recommend Dr. Whang and her staff, they are absolutely delightful. Everything was so easy and the staff was so accommodating. My LO even had a dirty diaper while we were there and they were so flexible and helpful. I only realized how much I liked Dr. Whang after I was referred to another ophthalmologist for my second child. We took my 4 year old to Dr. Whang because my optometrist wouldn't see him until he turned 5, despite having two separate screenings determine he needed early intervention. My son's pediatrician recommended Dr. Whang and we were so pleased with her. The staff was informative even prior to our visit about potential co-pays, paperwork, etc. Dr. Whang was wonderful and put my son at ease. She had to dilate his eyes with drops, which can sting, but my son left feeling completely calm (miraculously!). My son ended up needing glasses and Dr. Whang gave a great recommendation for children's' glasses (see my review for A Child's View - superb!). Dr Whang is a 5 but unfortunately their location and their office is a. 2.5/3. I was referred to their office by another eye dr that was booked until august and needing to have my daughter seen before then I made an apt with them. I am all about first impressions especially at a doctors office and a first visit. The dr can be wonderful but if I've never seen that dr my first impression of them is their office and their waiting room... this needs much improvement I felt like I was in a time warp back to 60's, they had couch covers on their couches... I can't image what the couch looked like under there!! There was nothing pleasant about this waiting room and it made my mind wonder about the dr. That I was waiting for. Thankfully Dr Whang was great but boy oh boy this office needs a MAJOR overhaul and a new location!!!!!!!! read more
