A beautiful fall day to play the short 9!

Sensational outdoor recreation in the 'burbs. Whether it's the Sar-Ko-Par aquatic center's outdoor pool (awesome slides!), the lovely pond, or the roller hockey rink, there is something for everyone and anyone in these 50+ acres of Lenexa. The newest hook is the skate park, which doubles as a spot for some BMX action. Plenty of ramps and quarter-pipes, differing degrees of difficulty, and safe spaces make it attractive for many age ranges. The 'Rolling Magic' statue/sign announces just that: a fabulous spot to get your daredevil on (wear a helmet!). In Decembers, Sar-Ko lights up with beautifully adorned trees in alternating colors encircling the pond. It's a short circuit around the pond and the reflection from the mostly still pond makes for sensational photo ops. Check out the gazebo for special views and picture taking. Parking isn't overwhelming, but you can make it happen. There are tennis courts and a frisbee golf short course, as well as accessible walking trails and nature points. Outstanding park with just about everything to offer and very little to miss!

This park is so cute. Great for a run, walk, fun with kids and always check it out during the holidays for their lights. And the lenexa bbq battle is a whole vibe!

Best display of holiday lights anywhere!

I truly think this is the best display of Christmas lights anywhere in the Kansas City Metro area. And this year there are even more lights than last year. Be sure to view it both from the entry on 87th St. and the entry further north going up the long driveway to get the view from the top. And step inside the beautiful little gazebo on the lower level... every inch of it is covered with lights this year! And if you have any magic paper Christmas lights (and fireworks) viewing glasses, you will love what you see even more! The snowmen glasses are the best!

Incredible grand opening to the new skate park!

Great skate park that has recently been renovated by the city of Lenexa. If you board, scooter, skate or bmx bike this is the spot. Restrooms & drinking fountains are right next to the park and they've added additional parking nearby. Rolling Magic pays tribute to a skate park in JOCO in the 80's that was open for a few years. Great addition to the city!

I love Sar-Ko-Par Trails Park! This has been of my go-to parks for as along as I can remember and love that they continue to update it. The park itself is pretty simple but has quite a bit of history (which you can actually read about on a sign near one of the highest parts of the park. It is really cool to know how long this area has been active and what it started out as. The park is great for everyone in the family and that isn't even considering all of the events that are hosted in this park throughout the year (chili cook-off, Christmas lights, etc.). But there are numerous paths to walk/run on, updated playgrounds, shelters, the Legler Barn Historical Museum, a railroad caboose, picnic areas, soccer fields, volleyball court, a three-acre lake that you can use a stone path to cross half of, a gazebo, community garden, newly renovated skate park, tennis courts, basketball court, and more! There was a public pool but it is currently under construction. It is in such a great location and during the winter, you can walk next door to the Foundry Church's coffee shop. Overall, I have always enjoyed Sar-Ko-Par and feel like it continues to get improvements almost every year. I am glad money gets put into it and the family's legacy gets to continue each and every year.

An absolutely wonderful park to walk. Great trails and a beautiful pond. But Christmas is extra spectacular here. Don't miss all the lights- one of the biggest displays you'll see anywhere! Plenty of parking to get out and enjoy up close, but many people also just drive through to enjoy them from afar.

Sar Ko Par lights are absolutely stunning! If you are ok with being a bit chilly you will love taking a walk through the park and getting beautiful pictures with the lights as back drops. We went on a night that it wasn't freezing but still pretty cold so make sure you dress warm and bundle up. There is so much to see you have to walk the whole park. I'm so glad it was back this year as it wasn't up last year because of the lovely Covid. I know Christmas is over but you can still go and see them as they are still up! You won't be disappointed!

My new favorite park! What a beauty in the middle of all the hub-bub. I love the walkway, the playgrounds, the trees, the gazebo. The thing I love the most though, is the history. What a nice legacy to leave behind for the many generations ahead. We have found an easy place to run and have fun. Or maybe pretend to be a leopard and lounge in the climbing trees. We've spent hours here already and plan to spend many more.

I Love this park! Lots of trails, natural scenery and planned, all pretty. Great pond, Rose's Pond. Places too sit, picnic areas, building new playground, bathrooms, water fountains and Wi-Fi Today , Sunday concert.

For example I called twice to confirm if I could bring a canned food to get half price admission (according to their website) and the girl on the other end told me no. I called again for a different employee and this girl was yelling out to anyone else who walked past her to get a answer if it was still going on. They assumed yes so I showed up with my canned good and they took it but she still wanted to charge me full price until I mentioned I brought a canned good! Besides this I'd bring my kiddo again.

So when I brought my 19 month old grandson, all of a sudden the school day was over and a flood of children came to the park. I expect that this is probably a daily experience around that time of 3:15 PM. So it was a little bit overwhelming with so many kids flooding the playground and the grassy areas. I would say it would be a good park to go to prior to that time.

Bunch of little kids on a power trip blowing whistles at me for no reason. Manager needs to tell his/her lifeguards to loosen up a little bit! How could you break my little girls heart and not allow her to bring in her doughnut floatie??? Stupid rule! What harm is that going to do? How about section an area off then for kids with floaties, or something--(I'm suspecting this rule exists because you don't want the other kids to be jealous of the floaties). Also, all the lawn chairs are clustered together in the back every time I go there, and my little girl bloodied up her toe when trying to get through to the shade where I moved a couple other lawn chairs! Leave a path through the lawn chairs! I'm done with this place! $15 bucks as a local resident to be treated by little nags on a power trip! I'll pay $15 bucks to go to a small, private outdoor pool instead, over this! Update: The business owner sent me 4 paragraphs of an "explanation". And said nothing about, "Why, exactly, a flotation device is dangerous". She bumbled on about "US Coat Guard Approved stuff".... Well what does the US Coast Guard have to do with a dang floatie??? What a political response!!! No real explanation from the "Communications Specialist"!!

So I had tons of nostalgic memories when I decided to take my own kids here this past summer. In preparation, I did some research and looked them up online, reading about how much it costs, the hours, and I was specifically looking for information on pool toys and flotation devices to see what was allowed as I had a faint memory from childhood of there being some strict rules. Since it had been about 20 years since I'd stepped foot inside Tomahawk Ridge I figured it was time for a refresher. I read everything I could find online and couldn't find any info listed on their website. So, we made our plans, I packed up, and we drove over. Upon walking up there are pool rules posted on the outside entry and again, while it stated some things like no running and I think it likely said no large inflatables, it didn't say anything about flotation devices for babies, and arm floaties for young kids. We bought our passes and walked in. It was a cloudy, but warm July day and the pool was empty aside from one other family so we got our girls ready and as I was about to get in with my baby one of the 20 teens that were staffed there came up to me to say I couldn't use her baby flotation device in the pool. I looked around, literally seeing no other people, and said "seriously", and the guy was like yeah, you can't use it at all. I asked why this wasn't mentioned to me when we bought tickets as the floatie was clearly visible and we clearly have a baby, and the teen just shrugged and walked away. I was annoyed since this really limited what we could do with our baby and I would understand if the pool was packed, but honestly even then, it's a bit wild to me that this is a rule, and even more wild that it's not posted and not communicated to you until you're there and ready to enjoy the pool as a family. Once we got through that, and made a new plan for how we'd take turns with the baby, we got our five year old ready and as she walked into the pool wearing her little arm floaties another teen blew the whistle at her (again we are one of two families at this pool) and the issue was her arm floaties. We were told that those also were not allowed and that she would need to wear a coast guard approved life vest. Well, she's five and just about done needing any support, and I told the teenager that she is far too old for that and that she just needs a little support. He said she could not enter the pool wearing those. Again, I asked why this wasn't posted, and why this is such an issue and again I just got a shrug. At this point I wasn't even sure if we could use a pool noodle since my daughter needed something to assist her in the water and didn't want to have to be in a baby pool as a five year old, so I sent my husband over to ask if we could use a pool noodle. The teen did not know. They ended up not being mad at us for the pool noodles so we had an ok time. The facility itself is still really nice, and if your kid is a confident swimmer there's some really fun slides and inflatable obstacle course that my cousin's daughter really enjoyed. Overall I think this has the potential to be a 4 or even 5 star pool but the website needs clear signage and the folks working at the front desk need to let you know about the rules regarding arm floaties and baby floatation devices. If these aren't allowed and your small children need them, it will impact your time here. I would have had a pretty good time had I been able to plan for this and not been constantly accosted to say I was doing something wrong at the pool, despite being right with my children the whole time. This honestly left me feeling like this pool is more for older kids, and just not friendly to young families.
