I spent 20 years at Life Time Fitness paying for amenities that I never used such as the pools. My wife & I have now been at Lenexa Rec Center for a year now. The price was right for our needs. Gym is a great affordable option. only problem is the entire time I have had a membership here 1/4 stair masters have been broken. I assume it just won't be fixed. Well now 2/4 are broken and it's nearly impossible to get a turn at all during the evenings. It's really disappointing because that is the main machine that I use, as do a lot of other people. I would love to see these be fixed at some point and not just left untouched. It's unfortunate you have to wait sometimes hours for these machines and sometimes don't even get the chance to use it at all:( read more

Indoor pool open year-round. Two full-size gymnasiums with all the amenities. And so much more! The Lenexa Rec Center is a crown jewel of the burgeoning 'City Center' space in western JoCo. Buttressed up against City Hall and the newest JoCo library branch, the Rec Center offers year-round enjoyment. Besides the opportunity for personal fitness, exercise classes, or just free play, the Rec Center offers a community space with loads of classes for all ages. You could even request to host parties or small events here, with staff at the ready to help you during your event. The indoor pool is a real draw, open year-round, save for maintenance windows. There are two indoor slides (the longest in the state), a 25M swim lane area, diving well, and a lazy river. The shallows are ultra-kid friendly, wading to low depths with sprinkles and splashes to boot! You can even find your way to the warm water wellness pool, kept at 90° and perfect for therapeutic relaxation. I'm spoiled because this spot is in my neighborhood, though you don't have to be a Lenexa resident to join. There are other places very similar scattered about town, but for the price, the value FAR exceeds the expectation. Covered parking, food amenities next door, shopping, and more are within steps. Since having two babies back to back, I told my husband I wanted to join a gym. It needed to have childcare so I began my search. Pricing is very reasonable for a family of four with childcare added. When you first walk in there is a huge slide that my kids absolutely love and never get bored of. Most of the childcare workers are super nice and great with my kiddos. There are two sides to childcare and one side has a gym. I wish there was an outdoor playground but that's ok! For me, I need to be bossed around to work out so I attend the classes. My favorite instructor is definitely Ashlynn, she's great. I attend Barre class, Zumba, and sometimes a circuit class. It can get very busy at times but this is a community center! They have a toddler splash and play and a toddler indoor play event Tuesdays. For a family with young kids, this is the perfect gym. read more

My husband and I have been members for just over a year now and have really enjoyed it! I can really only attest to the classes (Group X Fitness) as that's primarily why I joined. While the variety of classes varies seasonally, there's typically a good variety of strength, cardio, and mind/body classes. Some of my favorites have been: barre, cardio sculpt, circuit training, and zumba. I've also enjoyed trying pilates and barbell-based classes. Great instructors and I love how each one brings their own spin or twist to class! I have used the fitness floor, pool, or gym spaces much, so I can't speak to those as well. I know my husband generally likes the equipment available on the fitness floor but due to limited numbers of some equipment, he doesn't always get to use what he wants in the hour or so we are typically there. read more

Such a good, small community. 4 stars only because the floors and equipment can be quite dirty at times. It's a rec center, so not much equipment. I do wish they had more cable attachments. It seems like some attachments have gone missing overtime. With that being said, when the gym is busy it's hard to find a bench, machine or rack. This place is superb! The swimming pool is great and there is a court where my group plays dodgeball for free! This place is newish and so clean. Birthday parties are affordable here. I think it's like $180 flat fee for about 25-30 people to swim for 2 hours. Their locker rooms and rest rooms are very clean and roomy and well. Parking is great as there are plenty to park in the garage behind the Rec center. This whole area is growing like crazy and I have nothing but good things to say about this place! Quick and easy to get a day pass for $10. The facility is top notch and they even have a massive multi level parking garage which is free. Tons of various sports courts, an indoor track, tons of cardio equipment, decent weight training area, showers, locker rooms, pool area and more. If I lived close by I would be getting a membership. Highly recommend the place. read more

The pool facility is lovely . I do hope sometime soon children are not allowed in the wellness pool . This should only be for adults who are stretching and exercising , and relaxing . I've been kicked , splashed , and had to put up with screaming from children allowed in the wellness pool . I do love the Pickleball gym and all my new friends ! read more

The new Lenexa Rec Center is GORGEOUS. I've never been happier to walk into an establishment to exercise. Our family has truly bonded by spending time at the center playing basketball, pickle ball, and working out. Parking is easy in the garage, the staff is knowledgeable and friendly, and the space is designed perfectly. Windows surround the "spongy" indoor track, and the views of the golf course and the city of Lenexa are spectacular. The equipment, the locker rooms, and the pool are like nothing else in Johnson County. Membership for residents is only $70 a month per family, but not much more for non-residents. Bonus... the treadmills have tv, and virtual reality walking/running trails throughout about 10 cities. I really hate working out, but the Lenexa Rec Center is seriously a place I look forward to seeing again and again. read more

Woman at the front desk gave me a horrible experience. I was trying to add a member to my Family membership and she gave such a hard time and said the whole situation was "fishy". Me and my family won't be back here again. Rude and Disrespectful at its finest. Just sad that she doesn't realize the main reason anyone even pays her is to add members to the gym and help customers. Congratulations on running off an entire family. read more

Facility - 5 stars - I think their facility could give any other gym a run for their money, including Lifetime and definitely surpassing Genesis. They take care of it, plus it is brand new, so it is fresh and light. Staff - the overall staff is friendly and happy to be there. 5 stars. Equipment - 5 stars. All you'd ever need. Everything and more. A track that goes around the building with floor to ceiling windows to enjoy a lovely view of a golf course and more. The track has a portion with incline if you want to do that, or you can detour and skip it. Classes - 3.5 stars. Some instructors are experienced and amazing and professional, like the lady who teaches the Barre type of class. However some of the other ones have dropped between 1-3 stars either for lack of experience/lower caliber training experience or lack of professionalism. There are some out of place classes like "Work" on Saturday mornings. This is where classes could really be popular, but instead it is an odd twerking type of class with disco lights at 8am. (Huh? Right. Seriously.) I have only seen a max of 6 people attend. Pool - 5 stars. Amazing. It has really lengthy slides, it has a lazy river, it has the traditional olympic run pool, it has a kiddy pool with slides and fountains which is really amazing for kids even as little as 18 months if you go up and down with them which I did. There is a rock climbing area with a deep end, and another pool area I haven't even been to yet. It's amazing! Children - 5 stars. The childcare center is perfect - I believe it is 2 hours maximum and for a very decent price, whether you pay one-time or membership. They also have open gym for kiddos where they bring out probably around 40 ride toys and such to play on. $1, people! Membership is around $60 for residents, I believe - this beats Lifetime, matches Genesis, I mean it is a no brainer. Plus you can stop by and check out the ever growing new Lenexa City Center when you go! (New library opens first week of June, indoor Public City Center is open and serves a variety of foods and coffee, outdoor Lenexa Farmers Market every Tuesday/Saturday, etc etc... ) You do not have to be a Lenexa resident to have a membership at Lenexa Rec Center. Will not return. Was in from out of town on a family membership, and was forced to purchase a T-shirt because my workout apparel showed my midriff. In no way is this policy announced or in print, nor did I sign off on anything having to do with wardrobe policy. Most on women's work out apparel shows midriff, and I saw very short shorts while I was at the facility. I would hate to think that the policy was enforced on me because of my race, but regardless of why, they made me purchase an $8 shirt for a policy I knew nothing about. Disappointing read more

The facility is nice but the membership is expensive. It is often crowded in one area( pickle ball) with nothing going on in other areas. Very frustrating to be told we have something going on in a couple of hours so the area can't be used now. For the most part staff has a can't do attitude toward customers and seems to be bothered if they are asked to leave the desk area. After 3 years I will be cancelling my family membership. read more

This place has everything! For the price this is unbeatable! It has basketball, running track, workout gym with tons of machines, water slides for the kids, basketball, pickle ball, and tons of classes. The only thing it's missing is a sauna and hot spa. Honestly I would never expect these to be at a Rec Center anyways. This place knows it's purpose and fulfills it well. Excellent, just excellent. read more

Beautiful facility in an area that is trying to build up traction. Parking garage next to facility is convenient but depending on what level you are on can be a cold hike to the facility. Charged $10 per kid for non-resident. Highest in the area compared to Blue Valley & Olathe. Biggest complaint and more surprising, charged $10 just to watch. I can understand if your child can't swim, but if you're a parent accompanying a child under 9 who can swim, plan on shelling out an extra $10 just to sit and watch. Only pool in the area that I'm aware of that has this fee. If you want to bring grandma or someone, the extra $10-$20 isn't worth it. Olathe will get our repeat business. read more

I was visiting from out of state and looking for Zumba classes. I attended both Jhessika and Tyneshas classes. As a Zumba instructor myself, I can say both taught wonderful TRUE Zumba classes. A lot of classes I attend are really hip hop. Jhessika faces the mirror and wasn't very engaging. However, her choreography elevated my heart rate more. She did do some weights, which she isn't certified for and taught it incorrectly. Glad I didn't grab weights. Hands down, I loved Tanesha's class. If you know Zumba, you can make the moves bigger to elevate your HR. Tanesha faces the class, engaged the class, and got us to "Woop, Woop" and she cued like a pro--so even as new to her class I was able to follow easily! read more

Very fun place for a indoor pool. The only bad thing I can say is that you cannot have your own baby floaters in the pool. Other than that it was a clean place the free locker system was nice and they did have a suit spinner next to the showers. Staff was very nice and helpful. For a day pass it was 40$ for 3 adults, a 4 year old and a 10 month old. read more
