The good thing is that the people are great. The service is incredible and it's just a really neat place to escape with you on a pool or a fun time or a great gym. We were there for an event and they just started picking up plates cups and even towels, although if it wasn't over yet, and I was quite frankly surprised. The food was fairly subpar and I'm surprising. They only gave us one drink ticket. Not to nit, but I have to admit there was an incredible amount of flies and bees that were flying around that we were literally driving people away because it was so annoying. read more

ONE STAR First off, I want to give one star specifically to Tarah Zahner, Director of Membership. Somewhere along the way, one pretty important part of customer service seems to have gotten lost: remembering that the customer, especially a longtime loyal customer, should occasionally come before the almighty dollar. So, let me take you on a little journey. I've been a member of Woodside for many years. I supported the club, enjoyed the club, recommended the club, and even lived at Woodside Village for several years. I wasn't someone who joined for three months, used a treadmill twice, and disappeared into the night. I was a loyal customer. In September, I let Woodside know that I was moving away and needed to cancel my membership. I was then informed that I would still be charged for another month, despite the small inconvenience of NO LONGER LIVING IN THE AREA OR BEING ABLE TO USE THE CLUB. OK. Interesting. So I reached out to Tarah. My email was kind. It was respectful. I explained my situation and simply asked if, after years of being a loyal member, Woodside might consider making an exception. The answer was no. But quite frankly, the "no" wasn't even the part that bothered me most. It was how I felt I was treated in the response. Tarah's email came across to me as condescending and dismissive, with an underlying "Who exactly do you think you're talking to?" attitude. And THAT is where Woodside lost me. Because here's the thing: you can tell a customer no without making them feel small. You can enforce a policy and still show kindness. You can explain a rule and still acknowledge that the person on the other end has supported your business for years. I didn't expect a parade. I didn't need a plaque by the pool. I wasn't asking them to name a treadmill after me. I simply expected a little grace and good customer service at the end of a relationship that had lasted for years. Instead, I walked away feeling like all those years of loyalty meant considerably less than collecting one final monthly payment from someone who doesn't even live there anymore. And yes, I'm sure there is a policy somewhere that says they can charge it. That's not the point. There is a tremendous difference between what a business is allowed to do and how a business chooses to treat people. Customer service isn't really tested when the answer is easy. It's tested when someone has an unusual circumstance and you have an opportunity to make them feel valued. Woodside had that opportunity. Unfortunately, in my experience, they chose the invoice. After all these years, I would have loved for my final impression of Woodside to have been about the beautiful club, the memories, and the years I spent there. Instead, I'm leaving with a completely different impression: Apparently loyalty has an expiration date. The billing cycle does not. read more

1. They charge you $10 per class if you don't verbally and manually checkin with the instructor. I've been charged $10 for classes that I even attended and was a few minutes late to. You're better off not signing up and just walking in. 2. Brining guests is a complete hassle and you're charged a non refundable fee of $25 if life changes happen and you don't come with a guest that day. On several occasions I was denied guests even tho it was well before the required 24hour application to request them. On multiple occasions my requests were completely ignored and went unreported to even if they were placed 72hours in advance. I was frequently traveling to KC for work and sports only to be hassled when my wife visited from LA stating that I reached my cap for local guest passes (mind you, she lives in California full time and would visit me about once or twice a month for a weekend) 3. Steam room in women's bathroom is utterly disgusting and wasn't cleaned since I was there over a several month period, how'd I know? The dirt streaks and giant clump of hair that just remained of the floor for over 6months 4. Coming from Los Angeles and the Heimat gym where I pay $350/month, I was excited to try this gym... but this gym is clearly nothing but a wanna-be elite gym. The best part of this place is the flavored water in the women's locker room- And maybe the pools in the summer but good luck finding parking 5. Looking to bring up an issue with the staff and escalate it? Don't worry, they're happy to ignore you. Trust me, you're not gonna miss this place. Only thing it's memorable for is being complicated while trying to use its perks and over complicated. The 2 stars are for the water and the equipment. The cleaning staff is super nice tho! read more

First time at woodside, went as a guest with a friend who had membership. Overall, the indoor pool and hot tub are cozy and aesthetic. However, it can get busy there and the hot tub chlorine does sting my eyes a bit. There is also a steam and dry sauna there (both men and women in there). Parking is also difficult to find close by with how many people go there now. The women's locker room was nice, but honestly I expected the showers to be nicer and more modern. We stopped by the cafe on the way out. I tried the grilled cheese and tomato soup. The grilled cheese had apples in it and had good flavor. However, the tomato soup just tasted like thick, sour, tomato paste. It was not creamy like typical tomato soup. read more

I am sharing the reason I ended my membership at Woodside: the conduct of the Director of Membership, Tara. From the beginning, her behavior consistently crossed professional boundaries and created an environment that felt more like a social hunting ground for certain male members than a wellness club. On multiple occasions, Tara suggested that I "needed" a male partner and even sent men over to approach me while I was eating or speaking with others--behavior witnessed by Woodside staff and other members. Even the bartender, Jake, acknowledged what was happening and told me I handled the situation well. This was wildly inappropriate for someone in her position. During a Woodside happy hour event, I was approached by a status‑level, older member who offered to pay me for sexual services. When I reached out to Tara privately to clarify that I was not seeking any kind of partner, she dismissed my concerns and insisted otherwise. Instead of addressing the situation professionally, she minimized it. Tara has also made negative comments about me to other members and spoken poorly about other guests in my presence. These patterns made the club feel less like a professional, wellness‑focused environment and more like a place where certain members are enabled and protected while others are made uncomfortable. My decision to leave Woodside is directly tied to my experiences with Tara. Prospective members deserve to know the culture being shaped by the membership leadership, and I strongly urge ownership to take these concerns seriously. I am prepared to provide further details if needed. read more

A Second Home: Club Woodside Club Woodside in Westwood, Kansas, has become so much more than just a gym for me--it's a second home. From the moment you step inside, it's clear this is a facility unlike any other. The state-of-the-art equipment and beautifully designed spaces make every visit feel like a treat. Whether sweating it out on the cutting-edge cardio machines, enjoying a rejuvenating yoga class, or relaxing in the luxurious spa area, I always feel recharged. The amenities are top-tier. The locker rooms are spacious and impeccably clean, the pools (both indoor and outdoor) are stunning, and the café serves healthy, delicious options perfect for a post-workout treat. But what truly sets Club Woodside apart are the people. I've made lifelong friends here, and the sense of community is unmatched. The staff are friendly, professional, and genuinely care about your experience. The trainers are knowledgeable and supportive, helping you achieve your goals in a way that feels empowering. facility is If you're looking for a gym that's more than just a place to exercise, Club Woodside is it. It's a sanctuary, a social hub, and a space to thrive. Joining this club has been one of the best decisions I've ever made. read more

To be clear, this gym literally issues citations for "dress code violations" to women. And it isn't consistent on who is ticketed or why, and the staff is rude and won't explain it either.. the citation is a warning and if there's a second time they kick you out. First and foremost, the whole thing is ridiculous. Second, they sure better be issuing these to men too. Third, see the first statement. Staff is rude when questioned about this so called "policy" read more

I have loved woodside but recently things have been going downhill. It seems as if they aren't capping their memberships anymore -- it's very difficult to find a spot in any of the spa amenities (steam and dry sauna and hot tub) or to even find a bench in the gym (both north and south). People no longer pick up after themselves, used towels are seen lying everywhere and oftentimes there are no clean towels to use in the spa area. Additionally, the mini fridge in the spa area that keeps the infused towels cool is Luke-warm on a good day and oftentimes the essential oil put on the towels appears to be undiluted as it burns eyes and skin. Plus, members are seen recording in the workout areas -- which is supposed against policy, and something I loved about the gym. People wear minimal coverage clothing which is uncomfortable and gives me concerns about health and spread of fungal diseases. The food is mediocre, a lot of the new hires at the earthbar don't pay attention, are never at the desk, and get orders wrong. The amount of food you receive is never consistent. And lastly, the employees who tend to the locker rooms are often listening to programs or music without headphones or talking on the phone which is unacceptable. Please continue to hold woodside members to a high standard so this place will stay enjoyable. Thank you. read more

Overall, I really like Woodside and most elements of it. It's got nice equipment, separate areas for tennis, spa services, and is essentially two gyms with multiple buildings. I've been going here many years and hope to continue. It's a little bit of a two part review in that I feel like the staff is doing a good job with Covid precautions in most ways. They wear masks, have dedicated cleaners, lots of wipes for equipment, hand sanitizer, drinking fountains shut down, added virus filtration, and spaced out cardio machines. The members are another story. I feel like I might literally be the only person who wears a mask when working out. Sure, the policy states to enter the building wearing one, but everyone takes it off immediately. I'm sorry, but it's not that hard when working out to wear it, it's just not. It defeats the purpose of a mask policy if no one wears it indoors, and being around someone with a compromised immune system, it's giving me pause on continuing to go here during the pandemic. Some suggestions? -Enforce mask wearing in the weight areas. I do understand enforcing it for cardio is a different animal, but the weight areas can deal with it. I do, and it's been fine. -Maybe consider workout appointments similar to the group classes for all Woodside visits? This could help ensure it's not super packed, which at times it is. (Side note, is an area is packed, I leave and just call it to be safe). If not appointments, maybe limiting capacity could be the play. -Enforce the distancing. It's frustrating to be mid set and have someone come up a foot away huffing and puffing on me. I ain't about to go viral in confronting someone but I've certainly been put off by it. Overall though, I like Woodside and their staff. The food is also good, and love the pool (and the fact that they keep it open if it's warm well past Labor Day). read more

I just moved into the neighborhood a few months ago and I can tell you they have zero concern or interest in the effect their outdoor activities with the pounding music has on the neighbors. I have called but no change. Apparently this has been going on for year and years. Shameful. read more

I've been a member of Woodside since 2019 and love almost everything about it. They have excellent facilities (recently did a multi million dollar improvement) that include exercise studios, full service spa, two adult pools and family pool as well as great food and beverage. The service is excellent. The instruction is great. Multiple tennis courts as well. My only complaining is the density. They recently increased the monthly fee by 50% yet continue to sign new members. It gets very crowded on the weekends so get there early if you want a parking space or a pool chair. My recommendation is to place a cap on the number of members to improve the overall membership experience and allow one guest per member for a fee. Would love to give that 5th star in the future. read more

This place is awesome. The pools, restaurant, steam rooms and saunas are amazing. My favorite is the group fitness classes. They are the best and for the price of of what I pay a month, it is a fraction compared to what I used to pay at the boutique studios like sweatform or revive, and a 100x better workout. They have an indoor turfed space where a few buddies and I do athletic training to. My only dislike is how popular this place is. It can feel crowded during the summer but with the pools, its worth it. Im a business major so capping your number of memberships is stupid and would only financial decline any upgraded offerings so i get it. read more

Adding to my review, I finally took advantage of the spa. I had an hour long massage with Thompson-I haven't experienced this indulgence before and will definitely do this again. This place is absolutely awesome. The facilities are great, the equipment is great, the spa is great (and I've had a couple of massages), the hot tub/steam room area is great (I literally stop by after work to just soak in the tub), the classes are great (okay, so yoga not so great. They need a much, MUCH bigger yoga room and the classes are a little hit or miss.), but I could (did) literally float all summer in the adult pool with a frosé in my hand and (did) not have a care in the world. More than a health club, this is a 360-degree experience that keeps on giving. read more

My wife and I were members for three years before moving out of the area. I highly recommend this gym. It offers a complete complement of services from dining, exercise equipment and trainers, a steam room, sauna, jacuzzi, and several pools for adults, families, and children, tennis courts, massages, skin care products, etc., etc. The management and staff are fabulous too. I have lived all over the world and think that Woodside Gym is by far the best value I have ever seen in a gym. read more

I joined Woodside in late 2018. I used the gym, bar/food area, lounge, locker rooms, personal training and group fitness services. Throughout 2019 I was in the South Side facility three times a week (between training and Pilates). The facility has always been clean and the staff courteous. It can be a little loud, but it's a gym and that's nothing a good pair of headphones can't fix :). The personal trainers I worked with at Woodside (Lee and Shelby) were fantastic. They worked with me where I was at, but pushed me to challenge myself and ultimately realize how strong I truly am. The variety of equipment there makes it easy to "never repeat" exercises within a given week, something I appreciated and that kept me motivated. The bar/food area always had something delicious and healthy. During 2019 they held tons of fun gatherings (natural wine tasting nights) and I met a lot of great people. I did appreciate that when they closed due to Covid, they allowed us the option of pausing our memberships. I haven't been back to Woodside since the pandemic, as their mask policy was fairly lax. I know that masks can be uncomfortable to workout in, but you can wear an N95 at peak exercise safely and with no health issues (1). When more Kansas/Missouri residents are vaccinated, Covid spread begins to lessen, and/or they mandate masks I do plan to return. I joined Woodside in December of 2020 and have loved absolutely every part of the experience so far! From the tennis, to the group classes, to the poolside music on Thursday nights -- there's nowhere else like it in Kansas City. As someone who joined a tennis club without ever having picked up a racket, I have taken full advantage of their beginner Tennis 101 classes. Not only have I learned the game, but I've made some incredible friends. AND the lounge area! With spectacular member WiFi and a roaring fireplace -- I spent many a work day last winter cozied up with a coffee, working by the fire. Woodside is the absolute best health club Kansas City has to offer - you will not regret joining! read more

This is for anyone looking at spa services - I have been working with Elena for over a year now if not longer. I whole-heartedly recommend her for anyone who wants a classic swedish massage, but especially recommend if you're looking to improve physical health with her visceral massage and body work. I came in with stomach and digestion issues and after working with her after only a few sessions - I saw a reduction in stomach flare ups and overall stomach issues. She's work with your entire body and I cannot recommend her highly enough!!! Her knowledge and skill sets are invaluable - I recommend trying even one session and you'll feel the difference. read more

I I have mixed feelings about providing a review in the current environment. Please keep that in mind when you read my review here. I've been a member for just under two years. For the most part Woodside is a fantastic health club. I like that I can enjoy group fitness classes and I could go beyond that to find a personal trainer or even get a facial. I see that if you're a member here make sure you max out everything that's available to you from events, to seminars, to some of the additional services provided. My two main qualms stem around the day-to-day experience. The first one is even before the pandemic, it is next to impossible to get into a lot of the group fitness classes because they fill up that fast. I wish that they would add more times especially around 7 AM, for those of us who go to work at 8:30 but don't need to get up for a 6 AM class necessarily. I think having more class times would help them alleviate some of this issue. During the pandemic I know how much work that the team has put in to make sure that Woodside is a safe place to be right now. That being said I haven't always felt comfortable during the pandemic working out. Members don't really take the mask policy very seriously. I know that there's not much more that the team can do about that, but I would be conscious of this if you were thinking about going in today. TLDR: Best in class group fitness classes, even if you can't get in easily. Make sure that you take advantage vantage of everything this club has to offer including the spa. Be conscious of your surroundings especially during the pandemic even if others aren't. read more

I like many things about Woodside, the grounds are beautiful (Southside bldg aside), food is good, but this year they have skimped on many activities, no movie night at the pool, family night has very little fanfare, and they have just reduced pool hours 'due to no staff to work' now closing the pool at 4pm? I've been a member for almost a year now, and believe it or not, I've actually been a pretty consistent gym-goer ever since. We primarily do the group fitness classes in the early mornings and we've come to enjoy not only the rockstar trainers but also the other members we see every day. The facilities are nice and modern, and if I had to log a complaint it would be that it gets pretty hot during those workouts (I guess we're all working hard!). I haven't used many of the other amenities very much, but I'm hoping to get to the pool more as summer begins to wind down. The price can be costly, but I think everyone agrees that it is worthwhile given all there is to do. You get a slightly better rate if you and your significant other join together, and you probably won't find another place that offers as much as Woodside. read more

I love Woodside and so does my family. I was honestly a little nervous about joining, but we are so glad we did. Everyone is welcoming and it's so refreshing to have a place to work out and relax. I have worked out with trainer Shelby Chadd. She's amazing! She welcomed my vulnerability and raw emotion when I was nervous about talking about my health and fitness goals, yet she has lovingly pushed me to do things I never envisioned myself doing--like lifting weights while being pregnant. She's strong and tender, compassionate and encouraging, and has become a friend to me! I would recommend Woodside to anyone! read more

Living in Roeland Park, I had driven by Woodside numerous times and never thought about stopping in to check it out until until another member of the gym I was at, Planet Fitness, told me about Woodside and what they offered. Not long after we setup a tour with the Director of Membership, Tara, and the first thing I will tell you if coming from a gym like Planet Fitness is the sticker shock. The enrollment fee for 2 is a little over $500, then monthly dues are on top of that are a little over $100 a person. They were normally running 6 month to a year contracts but are now allowing month to month contracts due to COVID, with options to freeze your account if needed. Once over the sticker shock, the amenities for adults are what sold it for me. Tara did a great job walking us through both the north and south building (yes, 2 separate buildings), and showcasing the vast amount of amenities and events the club holds. It feel like a resort over a gym! A few aspects I love are the adults only workout areas and adult only pools. Being a morning workout person, I have yet to have to wait for a machine or deal with overcrowding. Woodside offers a great variety of machines for strength and cardio training and I have been able to find numerous machines I have been wanting to use that Planet Fitness doesn't have. If you are into fitness classes, there are TONS that run throughout the day. My post workout routine now includes a dip in the indoor hot tub, cold plunge pool, regular pool, or steam room with a eucalyptus oil soaked towel over my face which they keep stocked in a small fridge next to the pool, listening to spa music playing in the background. I will take this over Planet Fitnesses Black Card all day. This review doesn't even scratch the surface of everything this club offers. The sticker shock fades after you see what your membership gets you. They keep their membership limited so recommend scheduling a tour now if you are thinking of joining a gym. read more

I have been a member off and on for more than 20 years. My current complaint is that teens are not allowed in the main building. I understand small children, but teens who may be outstanding athletes are relegated to the annex. I think if Woodside polled their uber cool adults who use the main building they would not object to working out with high school athletes. You'd make even more money, which I have observed is a key objective. Update 2018. Teens are still not allowed in the main area. I have repeatedly tried to cancel my membership and have been told I need to go to the website and I don't have an account. The new billing system is chaotic and I have no idea what my current balance is yet they have sent it to a collection agency. Every time I try to pay it, they send a different amount. So buyer beware, once you join it is ridiculous to get answers about your membership and to actually cancel it. I have emailed the head of membership once again and hope they will finally listen. read more

I returned to Woodside in January after living out of town for 12 years. I loved being a member before. Yet, the club has become even better. Tara is an exceptional ambassador for the club. I didn't appreciate the value of PT until I worked with Denise. She evaluated my body and built a workout to correct my poor posture and combat potential osteoporosis. Then I had a deep tissue massage from Daniel at the Woodside spa. His massage was one of the best I've ever had. It feels so luxurious being able to enter the spa from the ladies locker room. My husband and I toured Woodside recently with the intent of joining a new health club. Unfortunately, we decided against membership and these are the reasons why. Cost - Woodside is a hefty $86/month per person + tax - that gives you access to the basic amenities (equipment, group classes, pool, locker rooms). All other services will cost you more (spa services, restaurant / bar, drinks, etc). We were also informed that this monthly fee is subject to change at any time, so they can raise your membership at any moment. This fee also doesn't include the signing fee for a membership contract - that is contingent upon how long you plan to be a member. Guest Passes - You have to pay for guest passes and there is a limit on the number of passes per person ($15 each). To me, that's a little steep for 1 guest pass, especially when you're already paying $90 a month. Popularity - We toured Woodside at 9AM on a Friday and the capacity was almost at 80%. I was astounded. My husband and I usually run after work, and I can only imagine the crowds if we had come during that time. We were also informed that at their last 'pool party', there were 1,000 attendees. WHOA. Instead of impressing me, that made me want to run away. 1,000 people occupying their pool area sounds like a nightmare. Facilities - The main clubhouse is very attractive, there's no doubt about that. The pool is stunning and I appreciated that it was adults only in the main areas (kids pool is further down in the back). The only thing that made me pause was the fact that their group classes take place across the street in an older building that has not been updated (and will not be). Woodside has the plans to re-build the group class center behind the main clubhouse - this should be happening in the next year. When we found this out, all I could see was dollar signs cha-chinging in my head... Guaranteed the monthly membership price will raise once this is complete. All-in-all, we were looking for an elevated gym experience, but Woodside just wasn't worth the cost for us, especially with the amount of members Woodside currently has. It is beautiful, and I'm sure some people love it, but it just wasn't for us. read more
