I can honestly say this was the best experience I've ever had with a home improvement contractor. From start to finish, Mike Stratton and his team were outstanding. Mike is friendly, responsive, knowledgeable, and clearly takes pride in his work. He was flexible throughout the project as I made a few design changes along the way, and he was always willing to discuss options and offer thoughtful recommendations. What really impressed me was that many of Mike's best ideas didn't increase the cost of the project. He suggested installing a sleeve under the new driveway so I could easily run irrigation or electrical lines to the other side in the future, something I hadn't even thought about before he mentioned it and will almost certainly make use of. He also recommended embedding a drainage pipe beneath one area of the concrete so that, if drainage ever became an issue, it would already be in place and could easily be tied into. He also recommended removing the old porch step to create a seamless, modern transition to the front entry. As we discussed different layout ideas, including curves versus straight runs, he made it clear that the cost would be the same regardless of which design I chose, allowing me to focus on what looked best rather than what cost more. The workmanship was exceptional. The crew was professional, friendly, and obviously very experienced. You could tell these are craftsmen who have been doing this for a long time. They worked efficiently, never seemed rushed, and paid attention to the details. Mike stopped by every day, often multiple times, to check on progress, answer questions, and make sure everything met his standards. The project stayed on schedule from beginning to end, with each phase flowing smoothly into the next. They also went above and beyond at the finish by repairing stucco that had been disturbed during construction, rehanging my gate, and even patching some older stucco adjacent to the project that wasn't really part of the job. The finished driveway and walkways look fantastic and have completely transformed the curb appeal of our home. Just as importantly, the work looks incredibly solid. Even the walkways were built with the same attention to durability as the driveway. Nothing about the project felt like corners were being cut. The price was also very fair. In fact, another contractor I'm working with on a separate project, someone who frequently works alongside concrete companies, told me that the price I paid was very reasonable for the scope of work being performed. I recommend Mendenhall Concrete without hesitation. When I'm ready to tackle the backyard, they'll be my first call.

C&R Pavers

C&R Pavers

A Contractor You Can Trust…read more In my last review, I mentioned that the Plumbing Company had to dig a trench in the courtyard. Now I will tell you about who reconstructed the courtyard. After the big mess in the courtyard, I had to find a company to reconstruct the courtyard, who better than the company which originally built the courtyard? Cesar Jimenez is not only one of the contractors which I work with, but he is one of the best contractors in San Diego County. Cesar is the contractor who originally built the courtyard (read my past review about C&R Pavers). To the detail, Cesar built this work of art, exactly according to my specifications & design. I don't post photos because I don't want people to copy my designs. I am an obsessive-compulsive perfectionist & Cesar passed my test; therefore, once more I hired him to fix his own work of art! I called Regina (The Better Half & the R of C&R Pavers) to send Cesar (The Worst Half & the C of C&R Pavers) to my estate to fix this mess. Even though they are busy with big jobs, but she made room to take care of me, after all, no job is too small for them. Big job, small job, they will make you happy. Fastest Contractor this Side of Rio Grande As I stated in my previous review of C&R, Cesar is the "Fastest Contractor this Side of Rio Grande" (literally). I granted him that title & I even refer to him as "Speedy Gonzales"! He is my only contractor who actually finished the job ahead of the schedule! This time, he could not break his record, but it is not his fault. It is the rainy season & the rain delayed his work. They had to stop work when the rain started. So, Cesar came over with 2 of his best workers & started on the job. For big jobs, Cesar drops 10 workers to finish the job fast (like originally building my courtyard) but for this job, he only needed 2 workers. Cesar ordered the Angelus Pavers from Rialto, California. In one & half days (before rain started) the workers finished the paving. After the rainy days, on the third day of work, to make it up to me (due to the delays), Cesar came over himself & he re-sanded, pact, swept, cleaned & sealed the pavers himself. I could not ask for a better worker. The boss himself had done the finishing touches. In my previous review of C&R, I vastly explained about their quality & system of work. Over here, I only state that C&R Pavers works speedy, hard, clean & hands you a detailed finished job. I hire a lot of contractors, but until this day, Cesar is one of my best contractors. As usual, he stood up to his reputation & fine work. It was good to see Cesar again & it was the correct choice to hire C&R. For outdoor construction from patios, driveways, grill islands, full kitchens, pool deck pavers, fireplaces, fire pits, pillars, columns, walkways, all the way to building complete front courtyard (as he built for me), C&R Pavers is the best construction company to work with. Why you ask? Fast work, clean work, detailed work & reasonable prices. You can't beat that. I know I can always count on Cesar to do a perfect job for me, you can do too.

I had C and R Pavers install a new driveway system about 7 years ago…read moreThey did a good job. I recently noticed a tree root disturbing my driveway so wanted them to repair it and also decided for them to clean and reseal the area. Caesar came out and said the process should take 5 days and and went into great detail all they things they needed to do. Wash sand remove stains fill seal etc. He quoted $5500 and said he'd need the week to get everything done. They showed up Monday at 7:30 2 guys and Caesar. He stayed the first hour the 2 guys were done at 1:30 , Caesar came back and said they were done for the day- They all left by 2 pm. Day 2 Caesar showed up at 9 am and started sealing the area with his spray can- took 1.5 hours . at 10:30 am called and told me he was done. . So 2 men -7.5 hours each and Caesar 2.5 /3 hours total- giving the benefit of the doubt - 18 hours total- Bid 5500 over 300 per hour per person. When I asked about his week forecast that became a little over a day of actual work. Caesar informed me of all the things that could have gone wrong but didn't . Bottom line his description was the lowest price he ever for clean and sealing driveways is 6500 so I was getting a deal. Totally disagree , I was taken advantage of , in my 70's this is elder abuse. Bottom line be very careful with C and R - not sure they're all they should be. I should have gotten multiple bids but thought as a repeat customer they'd take care of me - Boy did they. I will admit the work was good but WAY TO EXPENSIVE. Very disappointed !!!!!

Majestic Hardscapes - Final

Majestic Hardscapes

Words cannot express how impressed my wife and I were with Majestic Hardscapes. But we'll try...and…read morethe photos should help provide some context. After becoming first-time homeowners last year, we quickly built a wish list and began prioritizing projects. Solar and pool repair were must haves with summer approaching, and next on the list was getting rid of a decomposing wooden outdoor staircase with ridiculously oversized and hazardous wood block steps. After consulting with Bryan, we immediately felt confident in his approach and began a fun collaboration to update our property. As the project got underway it became apparent that a simple replacement with a different material wasn't sufficient. No, we imagined something grander -- which kept evolving -- and resulted in what can only be described as a work of art on our property where dirt and rotting wood once stood. Bryan's crew -- Benancio and company -- are a world-class team of builders and problem solvers. To this day, my wife and I can't believe our good fortune that we had this crew all to ourselves for the roughly month of time that the grand staircase, hundreds of feet of new pathway, additional patio expansion with a new gate, and front courtyard gazebo garden took for them to complete. We miss them! We won't miss them for too long, though, as we 100% plan on booking Majestic Hardscapes again for ambitious future ideas we dream up here at home around the property. Thank you for your care and concern for our home, guys. You are truly masters of your craft!

Even though the quote was not the lowest, it was reasonably priced and they were the only contractors that answered a lot of my concerns. I had several quotes from numerous contractors and all; expect Majestic Hardscape, just give me a price. This was concerning to me because we live on a hill and the side of our yard slopes. Every contractor just suggested laying concrete to the way it slopes so water would run off the hill. Bryan was the only one who suggested that this will need further attention, such as a retaining wall in the future otherwise it will just get worse over time. They were able to level the concrete the way we wanted and recommended us to eventually level the rest of the yard in the future. They even went out of their way to take some of our old stacking bricks and used them as a temp retaining wall to aid the sloped yard. I highly recommend Bryan and his team and look forward to working with them again in the future, thanks again Bryan!
