Definitely recommend this hidden spot! Not too far away from the Sagrada Família, avoid the touristy restaurants and try this place! 3 delicious courses plus a drink is only 10.5 euros, which place can beat this lol. The sautéed spinach is my favorite. The pork sausage I ordered was bit raw inside, owner told me it's the way they cook, I felt a bit worried while eating it but my body was absolutely fine. This is the cutest place. I found via yelp as it was nearby our hostel, and my friends and I had an excellent late lunch. For less than 10 euros we got to choose an appetizer, entree, dessert, and also got wine and complimentary bread. The waitress was very sweet and explained the whole menu in English and made sure our choices accommodated with our tastes. The owner (I think) of the restaurant also came out and gave us an extra treat to say thank you for visiting his restaurant. I assume this is more of a hole in the wall that tourists don't usually go to, but I highly recommend it! I've been in France and Spain for 20+ days. This has been my BEST and FAVORITE meal by far. I met up with a friend who wanted paella for her last meal in Spain (I know, typical tourists). She saw the reviews of this place and suggested we go...Even sans paella, she loved it, too! Friend doesn't speak much Spanish. Chef says no paella. Friend is disappointed. Chef, very kindly and charmingly, offers us to try 4 tapas (which he says is enough for two people). After a mix of picks and suggestions, we end up with these four: 1. Croquetas! potato, godly mush, etc. 2. Corn bread sandwich(?): cornbread, goat cheese, red pepper, corn bread WOW 3. Crepe: mushroom/cheese/jamón WOW AGAIN 4. Pizza: tomato, cheese, and chorizo Each of these four were DELICIOUS. My favorite were the croquetas (duh), but everything else was also so spectacularly made that I would have this meal 10x over. I would also like to note that the waiter was also the bartender, chef, and busboy...It was a ONE-MAN SHOW, which made it even that much better. By the end of our Tuesday meal, there were at least a dozen guests and he was doing great! Tipping isn't a tradition in Spain, but I loved him/the meal/the place so much that I did indeed leave a tip. Will definitely return. A big thumbs-up! read more

Probably my favorite in Barcelona. Not far from the hostel we were staying at, it looked shabby at first. However once you step to the back it becomes completely different. The owner/chef warmly greeted us and gave us a brief background of what he and the place was about. I knew we made the right choice when I smelled fresh prawns being cooked for the paella. The menu was small but everything seemed delicious. The chef even gave me and my friend a house wine that was simply amazing. If you like seeing what local places to eat are like instead of the normal tourist places. I highly recommend this place as a go to place. Do not come around 12 in the afternoon because it will be dead. However, the owner/Chef (family run restaurant) who has the best customer service I have ever had. Because he loves tourist to always come by inform me and my cousin to come later reason for the real "authentic atmosphere of Barcelona" So we leave to come back an hour later to find a couple families there enjoying the food. We sat outside in the back to enjoy the weather. Little did we know it's mosquito season in Barcelona (October) so in 15 mins we ended up sitting inside. Later to be ordering certain dishes for each course of the meal. (appetizer, main course, dessert, Including drink) all for almost 10 euro. I ordered the egg and rice for appetizer it was kind of a disappointment. But the main dish was what made the food worth it; it was a roasted chicken with potatoes and tomatoes and was so rich tasting it made me want to come back the next day. Unfortunately, I didn't have enough time to try dessert because I had a ticket to go to the sagrada familia at the time. But overall the chef/owner made it all worth the stay. His humorous ways to relate to tourist and his mannerisms to always keep you happy was the best part. *if you are staying at Sant Jordi close to the church. Being silly American tourists, we came here for lunch at 12:30 pm. It was like walking into a ghost town. We were soon greeted by the chef/ possible owner, who was the only one there. He was very welcoming and kindly let us know that we should come back a little later for the best experience. We came back at 1:30. The meal consisted of an appetizer, main course, desert and free drinks (water, soda and beer!). It was a set menu with a few options for each. I ordered a rice dish and the cod. The appetizer was a little disappointing and was rice, a fried egg and some plain tomato sauce on the side. However, the fried cod and the amazing chef definitely made up for it. Will definitely make a point to make it back here if I'm ever in the area. It'll seem like a hole in the wall from the outside, but you should give it a chance, especially if you're staying close to the Sant Jordi Sagrada Familía hostel. read more

This was again one of the points where I was contemplating whether I should give three or four stars, and it was not an easy decision. I can't complain about the price, the friendliness of the staff and the atmosphere of the little patio behind the building. These were definitely worth the visit. The food itself is also fair. I had a menu of a gazpacho, chicken filled with ham and machego cheese with baked potatoes and chose fruit for a dessert - so I got one big orange. It does match the definition but is not exactly what I imagined. I probably have expectation management issues after reading so many positive reviews, but I would not consider this one a must - neither am I disappointed that I ate here once, though. read more

After a quick Internetsearch we found this place. It really was exactly as others have described. Delicious and different tapas served by a congenial owner who is enthusiastic about giving diners a good time and value for money. We were five people including three teenagers one allergic to nuts and one who won't eat seafood so pleasing us is sometimes difficult. However, we all found several things we wanted to try and none of us was unsatisfied after the meal. The ambience in the garden at the back of the restaurant was friendly and congenial and we talked with other people at other tables, all of whom agreed that the restaurant was a "find". These reviewers must have been in an alternate universe. This is a dive. Based on these reviews we headed out to find this "neighborhood gem" and almost passed it by. There were three tables out front, two of which were occupied by shady looking characters with two dogs wrestling. We walked into the bar (and that is all it is - a bar) and there was no one around and it was beyond dumpy. We sat at the third table outside (next to the dogs) and waited for 10 minutes. Finally a guy came out, grunted at us, and threw some torn, well-used menus our way. Nothing appealing about the food, atmosphere (none!), or service. We were looking for a late night dining spot near our apartment on carrer de'independence and found Santutxo on Yelp. Wow, what a great place. Cozy atmosphere, with lots of pop culture memorabilia from the USA, which made us feel very much at home, but not nearly as much as did our host, whom we presume to be the owner. All of the tapas we sampled were awesome, particularly the Pinchos Marunos, the cheesy potatoes, which were suprisingly spicy, and we topped this off with an amazing chocolate lava cake like concoction and delicous espresso and coffee with cream. I asked for tips on what was good and was given a selection of three items: Croquettes, which were deep-fried balls of mashed ham and some other mystery. Not good. A pizza-like thing, flavorless and tasted/looked like it was just in a plastic bag and frozen minutes earlier. And some sort of cheese plate/Brie thing that I actually don't remember too much about. Fortunately my brain didn't retain many memories about it. These were the best three things on their menu, apparently. Staff was very nice and the Estrellas are cold. This is the one of the best hamburgers I've ever tried!!! Chef Isma only use organic/free ranged grown beef for the petty, and the taste is just fantastic!!!! Amazing restaurant with amazing service. Ate here twice while staying in Barcelona in February 2016. We are lunch here one afternoon ordering the set 3 course lunch menu. The fideua was one of the freshest seafood dishes I've ever had, and this includes everything I tried in Tokyo. The owner/chef and hear waiter/chef/bartender were both incredibly hard working and truly passionate about their food and great service. They spoke English well and made the small restaurant very inviting. We were here in the cold month of February, so we were forced to eat inside, but there is a beautiful outside seating area behind the restaurant as well.
