    lemon sorbet and chocolate gelato
    Arnel E.

The shop was very clean which surprised us with our previous experiences with other gelato or ice cream shops. Prices were a bit pricey for the standard fare. A small cup (two flavors though) costs €3.90 each. Similar sizes allover Europe would set us back €2 to €2.50. They weren't making pistachio since September which was a bummer since that was my wife's choice everytime. I got my lemon sorbet and dark chocolate combo. The staff were fast and friendly. The shop, well, was super clean.

Creamy, dreamy, gelato made with fresh real ingredients served by nice staff in a bright atmosphere -- I will return again and again!! You can taste the real fruit in the strawberry and mango!! Definitely try the Marabunta-- their famous flavor-- cream with pieces of dark chocolate!!

Delicious creamy gelato. Ended up going twice. Loved the coconut, mango and strawberry the best.

Pistachio and passion fruit gelato. This was a medium- the serving was a little tiny even compared to European standards.

Nice gelato and great service. The staff were friendly and efficient. I liked the gelato flavors that I got, which were pistachio and passion fruit. It did the job, since I had been walking for hours and wanted a treat. The gelato flavors were not intense or overly sweet. Was it the best gelato I have ever had-no, but if you are in the area and looking for a treat, this is your stop.

Begun by Italian immigrant Attilio Santini in 1949 Gelados Santini now inhabits six storefronts from Chiado to Porto, and although some will suggest world-class quality the reality is that the product is merely average while service is perfunctory. Originally in Praia do Tamariz, and now under the ownership of Eduardo Santini, it is in an area of high foot traffic that guests are invited to duck in for cup or cone, scoops rather than spatulas packing dense balls of Dulce de Leche and Fig with bits of ground Fruit.

I came here for dessert one night and the line was pretty long but it moved quickly. They make you pay for your gelato before you choose your flavors. A cone is an extra fee with your gelato, but a cup is free. I got three flavors: hazelnut, caramel, and marabunta. Hazelnut was good and tasted exactly like nutella. Caramel was a little too seeet for me. Marabunta is the unique flavor created by Santinis. It is basically cream gelato with chocolate shavings. This was definitely my favorite flavor of the three. This store is centrally located by all the shops so it is definitely worth a quick stop for some refreshing gelato!

Small shop serving very high-quality gelato at reasonable prices located in Chiado district of Lisbon. A local guide recommended this place for the best gelato in Lisbon and we decided to give them a try one evening for dessert. The founder was Italian and brought his skills to Portugal after WWII. The small colorful shop in Chiado in back of H&M offers around 20 luscious flavor. NOTE: pay first at the register- around 3,80€ for small (up to 2 different flavors). I tried the raspberry and the vanilla while my wife got chocolate and peanut flavors. Everything was fresh and creamy. You can choose a cup or cone. There is plenty of seating in the store from benches to tables. There was even a couple of street singers outside the store adding to the ambience when we were there. Definitely worth seeking out-they also have a shop in the Market Time out.

This is the best gelato I've ever had. I come every day when I'm in Portugal. So many good flavors that I always have a hard time deciding. I always recommend to friends if I know they're coming for a visit! Come to the states plz!!

The crust was super flaky and the tart was nice and warm out of the oven, but I didn't like the flavor of the custard. I did forget to add cinnamon to the top, but I don't think it would have helped me personally. I loved the patience of the server, who got confused when I told her I wanted to eat in but wanted to take water to go. Note to self...Portuguese folks want to have their "to go" as "takeaway." What I also didn't know was that there was no place to sit!! I scooted down the counter just like all the other folks to watch the bakers prep the next gozillion pastries for the day. That was interesting. Then, I didn't know how to bus my dishes. I just left them on the counter like all the other folks and went away. I wouldn't skip going because of my personal taste buds, though. Enjoy it for yourself and let me know if you have a different opinion than I did!

This means I can now say who made them best, and more importantly, why. The interesting thing is, I didn't think the pastel de nata here were particularly great, on any dimension - fairly flimsy, doughy crust, with a pudding-like, drippy filling that was too sweet and not quite eggy enough. Don't get me wrong, I'd still eat them any time someone offered, they were still tasty, you just have a ton of options nearby, some of them notably better than the ones here. I also tried one of their fancy-looking cookies, which definitely looked fancier than it tasted. Was just a cookie. Dessert-wise I was unimpressed. They were also always fairly busy, which made ordering feel a bit rushed. So why am I still giving this bakery 5 stars, and why did I come back here a couple more times, including to get food to-go the morning we left, to get food to take on the plane with us? For exactly one reason, and it's a weird one: oddly enough, the samosas here are the best samosas I've ever had, and by a wide margin. You'd think the best samosas ever would come from an Indian restaurant or bakery, but nope, they're here. The other small savory food items we tried were also pretty good, but the samosas are the juiciest, meatiest, most perfectly bursting with spices samosas I've had. Who knew? They also had pretty solid espresso and pretty solid free-squeezed orange juice, but those aren't hard to find in Portugal (I miss seeing inexpensive fresh squeezed OJ all over the city... especially *truly* fresh squeezed, to order, from whole oranges. Portuguese OJ definitely was the best. Though obviously not *better* than other places you can get the same thing around - probably indeed the same oranges. Definitely better than anywhere you can get fresh OJ for a few bucks in the US, though, if you can find such a place. :p)

I ultimately went with the stracciatella and the coffee/espresso that they had but was able to sample some of the fruity flavors before that! Each flavor was perfect, light, and not too creamy. In fact, the fruit flavors had this brightness to them that was really refreshing! The custard strikes a great balance -- rich and eggy but not overly sweet. The pastry shell is where these really shine: thin layers of laminated dough baked until they're deeply golden and crisp. The result is that perfect textural contrast: crackly pastry on the outside and silky custard inside. Like most Portuguese pastry shops, the setup is straightforward. You order at the counter, the service is quick, and the focus is on getting the tarts to you while they're still warm from the oven.
