    Causa de Pollo
    Viviana Z.

I love Peruvian food so the bar is always high when trying a new place. We had the Causa de pollo to start. It's served with two sauces, the yellow one is earthy/savory and the green sauce has a kick! We also ordered half a pitcher of Chicha morada (sweet purple corn drink). A lot of places add too much sugar to this drink, but this one was perfect. For an entree my partner ordered tallarines verde (pesto pasta) with steak. It was a huge portion, so much so that he had leftovers to go. I ordered the ceviche mixto. The seafood tasted so fresh and did I mention the portions are huge? I really enjoyed our dining experience. Things to know: A 15% tip is included (the service is amazing, they deserve more) They charge for to go containers but it's fifty cents. The place is decorated with beautiful Peruvian art and woodwork.

Imagine a region which has (amongst other things) 50 varieties of corn, 50 varieties of chilis, and almost 5000 varieties of potatoes. A region that recorded zero (yes, the number zero), a few years after it was first recorded in Mesopotamia, and centuries before it was recorded in India. A region which has two very unique (as in genius) units of measurements (used in construction). Now, imagine the food from that region made with that mind. Let me guess, you are probably thinking of Peruvian food. At one point the best Dim Sum in NYC was Peruvian (Chinese) Dim Sum. The best Sushi was Peruvian (Japanese) Sushi. So where can you try a range of above par Peruvian food in NJ ? If you like decent service, inviting ambience, and good presentation (along with exceptional food) then my pick is Santa Brasa (1291 Main Street Clifton NJ). On my last visit, the mixed ceviche was so good that it was almost gone before I took a photo of it. Take a look (almost gone).

Great local Peruvian spot. Food was fresh and delicious. Nice portions. Service was impeccable. Our server was very attentive. It's a small restaurant so expect to wait but it's so worth it. I had the tallarin saltado de pollo (not pictured, sorry) but it was so good. And for desert also not pictured, i had picarones. Just wow! I'll definitely be back to try other dishes. By the way a15% gratuity is already added to your bill so pay attention. So If you like Peruvian food I recommend this spot.

    Pollo a la brasa

Restaurant just opened in June, came to try a new restaurant in my neighborhood. Restaurant's is a good size, Peruvian decor displayed in restaurant. No reservations needed. Our waitress was very attentive and friendly. I ordered pollo a la brasa, the meal was delicious and the sauces were amazing. My friend is a vegetarian so i was happy to see options for her. She ate the vegetarian chaufa which she loved. I tried her dish & it was very tasty. Overall great experience and great food. Food: 5/5 Service: 5/5 There's street parking.

I was in the mood for Peruvian food and ordered the chicken fried rice by phone. When I arrived I parked on the street nearby. I walked into a cute, small restaurant. I was greeted and told the man my name. My food was ready and I paid and left. When I ate the food was very good. There was plenty and it was seasoned great. I enjoyed it.

Walked in pretty hungry, not sure what to get. Looked over to the next table and they were eating a very good looking plate. I asked them what was the name of that plate, Duo Marina. Man was that satisfying!! Leche de tigre y Jalea.

From the moment we walked in, the service was warm, attentive, and welcoming. The food was absolutely amazing, just as we've come to expect, but enjoying it fresh in the restaurant made it even better. Sometimes life gets so busy that you forget to slow down. Sitting down together, sharing an incredible Peruvian meal, and simply enjoying each other's company was exactly what we needed. It turned an ordinary meal into a wonderful date. We'll definitely be back, whether it's for takeout or another relaxing meal in the restaurant.

We waited 10 minutes before we were able to get a menu, then another 10 for someone to take our order. The food took over 30 minutes to be served and they don't provide any snacks (Peruvian restaurants usually give you canchita to snack on while you wait); our server was very rude to us, she was the one to "greet us" when we entered and just looked me up and down and walked away, then we were seated and had ordered drinks, she didn't bring my water at all - I had to ask a different server to please bring me water after 15 minutes. We spent around an hour and a half at the restaurant solely because of how long it took to serve us, bring out the food, and get the check. The jalea and ceviche were both okay - not the best but also not the worst I have tried. I asked the ceviche to be spicy and it wasn't, nor was I given rocoto on the side when I asked for it. The jalea only had calamari and fish, when it's supposed to also have octopus, shrimp, etc. I will not be coming back.

The restaurant is colorful, lively, and has a great atmosphere without feeling too formal. We started with the Tuna Wantacos. Our server warned us that they were spicy, and he was right -- definitely a little kick, but very flavorful. The white fish ceviche was bright and refreshing, with that tangy, salty leche de tigre that really wakes up your appetite. The Lomo Saltado was hearty and satisfying, but my favorite dish of the night was the Seafood Arroz Chaufa. It came topped with an omelet and had squid, fried shrimp, and plenty of seafood throughout. Really comforting, savory, and filling -- I would absolutely order this again. We also had chicha morada and a passion fruit drink. I've always liked purple corn drinks, so the chicha morada was an easy favorite. We finished with a chocolate dessert, which was a nice ending after such a big meal. Overall, a very enjoyable Peruvian dinner with fun décor, good flavors, and plenty of variety. I'd definitely come back, especially for the seafood fried rice.

We came to Jarana with high expectations. As fans of Peruvian cuisine, we were excited to try a…read morerestaurant associated with such a well-known Peruvian chef. We left with the impression that this is probably the kind of restaurant someone should visit for their very first introduction to Peruvian food--not because it represents the best of Peru, but because it offers a simplified version of its flavors. The restaurant itself is beautiful. It's clear that a significant investment was made in the design, atmosphere, and overall experience. The service was friendly, and we noticed that many of the servers were Colombian, which isn't surprising since Colombians are well known for providing excellent hospitality. However, there were moments when it seemed that some of the traditional Peruvian flavors and drinks weren't fully understood. For example, the Pisco Sour we ordered was much sweeter than it should have been. We decided to start with the jalea, hoping it would set the tone for the meal. Unfortunately, it did the opposite. The dish was overly salty and lacked the balance and excitement that a great Peruvian jalea should have. Instead of reminding us of the vibrant seafood flavors found in Peru, it tasted more like generic fried seafood than an authentic Peruvian recipe. After that dish, we chose not to continue with the rest of the menu. To make matters worse, both of us experienced stomach pain afterward, which confirmed our decision to leave. One thing that also caught my attention is the restaurant's description of its food as "approachable Peruvian cuisine." Making Peruvian food approachable should never mean lowering the quality or authenticity of its flavors. Simplicity and accessibility can absolutely coexist with exceptional taste. The beautiful atmosphere should be matched by food that delivers the same level of excellence. Considering the premium prices, the culinary experience simply didn't justify the cost. If someone has never tried Peruvian food before, Jarana may serve... again: may serve as an introduction. However, for anyone looking to experience what Peruvian cuisine is truly capable of, there are several outstanding Peruvian restaurants within just a few miles that offer more authentic flavors, a better overall dining experience, and often at a lower price. I genuinely wanted to love this restaurant because the concept and ambiance are impressive. Unfortunately, the food didn't live up to the setting or the reputation behind the name.
