For the most part it was a decent time. I went on a Friday around 730/8pm. It was not hard to get seats. The service is pretty fast and the waiter was nice. The appetizers were chicharrón de pollo, calamari and Cuban spring rolls. The pollo was tasteful but had a refrigerator taste to them. The calamari was decent and the sauces they provide are tasty. The Cuban rolls were good as well but they were a bit cold. My entree was mofongo with the pork. I say that was pretty good as well but I've had better. My girlfriend had the lomo saltado and that was excellent. The meat was very flavorful and tender. I ordered two drinks. One was the Tropic Obsession which was good and then I ordered a piña colada which was not good. It tasted like vodka instead of rum. Nonetheless they're drinks are pretty strong. read more

I have been to Sangria about 6 times. Today 5/23/23 I went there around 1 pm with two friends to celebrate one of their birthdays. We ordered drinks, appetizers and food. We were sitting towards the back of the restaurant where there is a line of couches with lined color backs. I was sitting on a wooden chair at the table facing my two guests that were sitting on the couched seating. As we were also most wrapping up and finishing the last drinks we ordered, I looked in between my two guests and there was a small baby mouse sitting at the top of the backing to the couches. The critter climbed up behind the backing and perched himself on the edging between both of them. I was shocked and instead of grabbing my cellphone to record i said to my two friends there is a mouse sitting between both of you. At first they thought I was kidding but as they slight turned their heads they saw the litter critter, with his beady eyes and little round ears. Well as you can imagine they both jumped up and screamed. This was enough action for the mouse to crawl back down from where he came. We got the waiter attending us and the bartender, they called for the manager and besides apologizing and saying they have pest control services coming in often, there was no other courtesy customer service action taken. We paid our bill and told them we would never be back. The manager did not offer to reduce the bill as a courtesy or even offer a free round of drinks which we probably would not have accepted at that point. We are also filing a NYC 311 complaint. The decor is beautiful, the bar is set up nicely, the ambiance is just lovely, for a date, girlfriends night out, whatever the occasion, birthday celebration, whatever your need is, it's a great place! The wait staff is remarkable! Extremely attentive to your needs, they are watching ensuring you are enjoying your food, drinks, whatever! The food is DELICIOUS! I ordered the Paella, and my friend ordered the flank steak! Omg! Everything was cooked to perfection! As someone who is a picky eater, I didn't want peas or carrots or mussels or clams in my paella and they cooked it specifically to order! So this place does not from what i can see offer you pre-made food! The only reason I'm giving the place 4 stars is because the bathrooms were the least desirable! They were dirty and not kept clean! Toilet tissue was sitting on the back of the toilet as opposed to in the holder, you could barely maneuver in the stall because that's how small it was. The bigger stall someone had messed it up so bad, you couldn't use that stall at all. Hey just an update ! This place is still great !! Came back last weekend with hubby and we sat inside this time. The dining inside is very good you are a grata distance from other patrons. Our server was so warm and welcoming she was very helpful with selections and kept checking to see if we were ok. Please get the appetizer platter !! Everything on there was good especially the sauces it comes with good for two or more people. I had to be basic and get the fettuccine Alfredo with steak, I didn't love the noodles or sauce but steak was banging. The filet sole was what my bf has and he loved it the presentation was beautiful as well. As far as drinks we were a little bit skeptical about the sangrias but baybeee I'd do the red and white sangria over the henny sangria any day. We walked out of there tipsy that might be also thanks to the complimentary shots the manger gave us ! I'm frequently in the Co-op City area and finally decided to try a new spot for #datenight. Haven't heard too much about Sangria Cafe so I went last night. Party of two, we were seated pretty quickly. When we got to the table, I felt like I was sitting four feet across from my date so talking was a challenge. We reviewed the menus and they looked very similar to other popular Latin venues in the area so I was looking forward to their spin on some of these plates. To start, we ordered a carafe of red sangria and the following appetizers: Yuquitas, Albondigas, and Arepitas. Let's just say the menu descriptions oversold the actual appetizers and we were left wanting. They also served bread and herb butter. The bread was not freshly baked and we only ate it because it took 40 minutes for our appetizers to come out which is unheard of; the back of the house really needs to get their timing/prep in order. Unfortunately, given the venue's name, the Sangria was not impressive at all. We sampled the coconut sangria which tasted like a watery piña colada with toasted coconut. We decided to go with traditional red which tasted like a pre-made sangria mix with no real fruit other than an orange slice for garnish. I know it may seem like my expectations are high; it's because they are...but very reasonable. Lastly, if a restaurant in the North East Bronx wants to charge Manhattan prices for cocktails and food then you have the responsibility to deliver on a comparable scale in quality and service. It was boiled chicken breast drenched in garlic water with beans that tasted right out of the can. The rice was the best part of the meal. It felt like it was made from scratch. Me and my boyfriend went here for a date night and it's safe to say we will be back again . The food here is good... majority of the menu that is good is Fried ... the service her is terrible and unsanitary... they are super strict about have having a vaccination card but their waiter and bartenders don't use gloves or practice proper sanitation guidelines... A friend of ours was having a small gathering here. It's a nice addition to the area. Got there early and the bartender was friendly. The happy hour menu had some good deals on drinks. We were lucky enough to have the side room, which is a great space for a small crowd. The appetizers were all deep fried, not the healthiest, but I enjoyed it all. Really liked the empanadas. Food was ordered family style and while I didn't actually eat any of it, most people enjoyed it. I ordered sangria, which was a little too sweet for me, but that didn't stop me from drinking. I have to say that I am truly disappointed to give a poor rating for this business. The stars I have gifted are for the decor and staff hospitality. Realistically though, Sangria Cafe is a restaurant so food is a pretty important aspect of their business. I can honestly say that I still feel somewhat sick after dining here earlier today and I hope this current feeling is in my head and that I'm fine. So basically, I was stoked to find our that there was finally a new, small business that highlights ethnic cuisine in Co-Op City. I'm a native to CC (shout out sections 1+2!!) and I grew up here visiting so many mom and pop shops that thrived from the business of their neighbors. We were a real community, helping each other lift ourselves up and that has been lost, save for a few SBOs that still maintain here. Now with the never-ending mall expansions, it seems the American dream is fading in this small corner of the Bronx. With that said, I am always happy to see small business come into an area and do well by their customers and community. My sis suggested I take my MIL here since we were out and about, running errands and we were nearby so I Yelped it and figured we'd have a good, inexpensive lunch. The staff was very pleasant when we arrived. We were seated quickly and aside from some stains on the menus, the place looks very clean. It's new and they did a very good job with the renovation. The space used to be a bingo parlor, an old cinema and if my memory serves correctly, even a Chinese food restaurant that I frequented with my dad as child. They offer a lunch menu that's only about six dishes which I actually prefer because, to me, that means they are focused on preparing good food. We started with an appetizer of Beef Empanadas which were quite large and stuffed to the brim with shredded beef. They were a little bland for my taste. I'm used to pastelitos with chopped olives and beef filling which has more flavour. The dip they served was supposed to be a Cilantro Mayo which tasted like plain mayo that has a slight green tinge to it. It didn't have any cilantro flavour which says a lot because the herb is pretty strong and should definitely have come through. Perhaps it would have made more of an impact had they made the mayo from scratch instead of using a jar. My MIL had the Pernil lunch special as her main. She didn't eat much of it because she said she didn't like their beans and touted that hers are better (probably true...mom food, I mean, don't argue with that). I originally wanted the chicken lunch dish but changed my order to the Tilapia. I don't like white meat chicken that much and the chicken dish consisted of half a whole chicken. In hindsight, I should have stuck with my first thought. When my fish arrived, I first tasted the cilantro rice with which it was served and it was a bit overcooked, a little mushy and bland. The veggie side of zucchini was OK and well-seasoned. I took a bite of the fish and was initially happy with my choice. It tasted great. It was pan fried and crispy underneath while still being juicy and flaky. My second bite alarmed me. I had a mouth full of a chemical-like taste and I thought that I may have been mistaken but after a few more chews, I definitely knew I did not want to swallow this food. I immediately spit it out into my napkin and further inspected my protein. I then thought that I smelled cleansers or chemicals of some kind but I couldn't pinpoint it on the plate. I took a piece from the side and bit a small amount and it tasted fine so I figured that I may have been getting myself worked up considering the recent widespread aversion to Tilapia and how the fish is farm-raised in horrible conditions and often poorly stored. I was still skeptical and cut off a piece of the tail part. I smelled it and that's when the chemical odor became much more apparent. I asked my MIL to sniff for a second opinion and she immediately said the fish smelled like Ajax. Yes, the abrasive cleanser you use to scrub bathrooms. I was relieved because I thought I was going crazy. I returned the dish and declined any other food. The staff was very nice and understanding, although I don't think they believe that the fish smelled or tasted like chemical cleansers or maybe they didn't want me to think they believed me. Honestly, I don't need them to believe me. They took my item off the bill and I am thankful that I didn't eat more of it because there was something very off about that fish. The manager came by and expressed her apologies which I appreciated but, again, I doubt they believed me. I just hope they look into the practices of their kitchen before someone becomes ill in the future. read more

Waitress made another waiter tell us our drinks are full price because we didn't order entrees... no problem to us. Waiter already took our orders but because he had to apologize and say no happy hour for everyone except the one entree, he placed one appetizer order wrong. Waitress double, no triple checked the order was placed wrong! Then another waiter returns with the correct order. Our drinks were watered down taste like juice and frankly overpriced for the small whiskey glass size. If it wasn't for a third waitress pointing directly in our direction (with no oTher clients around), for no reason but to ask who returned back the (wrong) food... (points at my table)... I probably wouldn't have written this review. The unprofessional service, childish hand pointing, and the in-your-face chatter were grounds for just a walk out and leave type situation, but we stayed. Sangria is absolutely deliciously amazing!!! You MUST eat here! From the appetizers to the entree, they are so flavorful. My favorite appetizer is the arepitas that is beef on a corn arepa and it is seasoned so well, the flavor combination is amazing. If you like spice, the camarones is rock shrimp with a garlic-ginger chili sauce with crispy wonton strips. For dinner I had the Chuleta Glaseada which is a pork chop with chipotle mashed potatoes in a passion fruit glaze. This dish is mouth watering delicious and is only $19. You get two HUGE pork chops, green beans, and the mash, way more than I expected. But when I bit into it, I was able to eat way more than I anticipated. If you like a kick and some spice, the sauce with this meal is perfect. Then for dessert we had a Four leches cake that included dulce de leche. Usually I am not a dessert person, but this was really good. William was our waiter and he was so attentive. By far the best server I've ever had, and I go out to eat a lot. He cleared the table several times of plates and we never lacked water or anything we wanted. I wish I could take him everywhere! We paid compliments to the chief Fernando, wow, everything he makes is just amazing. I will definitely be back to try more dishes like the lomo saltado, one of my favorite meals. Tanya is the manager and she is super friendly and helpful. She checks on the tables to make sure the food and service is up to par. Lastly, the drinks!!! It's called Sangria for a reason. There are nine flavors of sangria ranging from a strawberry, mango, rose, sour apple, and Hennessy. There is also a DJ playing some good music on Thursday through the weekend and have a karaoke night on Wednesday. I must say, I came out to this place previously for a birthday party and felt I needed a second go around to have a all around experience here. I must say the food is great! The order came out nice and hot and the drink was really good as well. The overall appearance of this place is wonderful with great Music and a nice setting for the bar location which also has a beautiful vibe with the perfect neon lighting setting. The waiter was very professional and didn't feel rushed but was very helpful and asking if we needed anything else. Best Latin cuisine in the Bronx. I've had a little bit of everything there and everything came out so flavorful and delicious! Their beef and chicken empanadas have the perfect crunch to it. Their Cuban spring rolls are so so unique and the perfect finger food. Omg, don't even get me started on their short rib and mashed yuca (not photographed). I have never had mashed yuca before and it was so buttery and soft. That and the short rib complimented each other so well. My boyfriend had the paella, and he couldn't stop raving about it. Now, you're all probably wondering about the the drinks which I'm sure is the reason why you're thinking about coming in. They have so many sangria options. My personal favorite is mango sangria but another crowd pleaser was the coconut sangria. They both will sneak up on you. They also have a Hennessy sangria, which I'm not a personal fan of Hennessy to begin with, but it is strong for those Hennessy lovers. Sangria does offer a flute, which lets you try the sangria, what a steal! Definitely a go to spot if you're in the neighborhood or even in the Bronx in general. read more

Father's day travesty. Yesterday was Father's day, I had guest over and we wanted to buy a few churrascos (steaks) to go with our sides. We called the restaurant at 7:15pm asked if they had churrascos for pick up, after all it is Father's day and they said yes, they did. They took my name and number and asked us to give them 30 minutes. We waited 45 minutes and then I sent my two oldest sons to pick it up. When they arrived they were told they needed another 30 minutes. It was Father's Day and it was busy. No problem, my sons called me, told me the situation and went about doing another errand. They went back to the restaurant about 35 minutes later, and they were told in a very flippant manner, there were no more churrascos to be sold that evening. When I called the restaurant they were dismissive of the whole thing. "Lo que Sera, sera" this quote is in line with "oops, sorry you feel some kind of way". I was livid, of course. I had a house full of people that where very hungry and now we were left scrambling to find a protein replacement by now almost 9pm. I asked to speak to the manager, but I was told he was busy. So I decided to go down to the restaurant to express my displeasure. When I arrived and asked to speak to Dave, the manager. He was dismissive as well. "I ain't ever seen your kids", "we told them there was no more churrascos" "I only saw them once", when I expressed how all of this could have been avoided with 1 phone call, I was told.."how can we call you, we ain't got your number" l, I told him the young lady took my name and number, how else would she know who ordered the pick up? I told him that I was told that he was busy and that's why I had to come to the restaurant in person..he says ",yeah I know, I'm busy eating my dinner". I told him you see, you are eating dinner and I'm here expressing to you how low this whole situation is. Meanwhile my family and guests are starring at empty plates. "Yeah, well, I'll bring it up with the girl that took your order" he then went back to eat. I onow this is the Era of fake news and pointing fingers and heaven forbid that anyone say sorry, but I would suggest you take your money and your business elsewhere. This place is new to me I don't know how long it's been adjacent to Bay Plaza. I'm glad we found it the food is a step up from the restaurants in the complex. They do have outdoor seating. I was lucky enough to be sitting at the divide between indoor/outdoor so we were able to receive cool air from the AC unit. My main complaint is that the slushy machine was down so our iced drinks were very syrupy and had to be returned. But the manager was happy to oblige and remove them from the bill, also bought us some samples of sangria. The food was delicious. I had the salmon with its accompaniments. Arrived here at 9pm for my break and ordered a sangria burger with sweet potato fries. While sitting there chatting with friends, I realized my food hasn't arrived yet and it was nearing the end of my meal period. It was 935pm when my food finally appeared. I paid and rushed back to work. I must admit, the burger was the bomb.com (really good) which made my review score go back up the a 4 star. Next time I return with my wife, I hope the chef doesn't take so long. People have lives to live. So I gave sangria another chance yesterday and they came through this time on all cylinders. After an experience with raw uncooked food, I attempted to give this restaurant another try. They ID at the door, and the hostess was pleasant. Upon sitting my friend and I ordered appetizers and water. The waiter Michael informed us that we could not sit for dinner unless we ordered entrees. We expressed that we were purchasing multiple appetizers and a drink for the 2 people seated. The waiter spoke to his manager and he informed us that since we were not consuming entrees we had a seating limit of an hour, in comparison to the usual 2 hour limit. Loved it! My friends and I came here this past weekend. There was a bit of a wait to sit inside but the hostess lady accommodated us very quickly and found a seat for us. I ordered the Mofongo chicharron de pollo, was very good. It had a lot of flavor. We all loved our food. They also had a DJ which played a nice mix of music. Our waiter was very attentive, polite and funny. Overall service was great and atmosphere was fun. I would definitely come back soon! read more
