Run away from this company. They completely destroyed our yard and took about 4 months longer than…read morethey said they would. Any email you send them goes unanswered and they never call you to inform you what is going on. You must call them and talk to their HR woman who can't answer any questions and didn't know what a perc test was for. They came to dig for the perc test in mid April 2025 and it was July 2nd before anyone came to look at the huge pit in our yard. They said they county would take about 6 weeks, but it took 10 weeks and I 100% believe it's because they didn't apply for the county to come out in an orderly fashion. I called multiple times for an update in that 10 weeks and the HR woman told me she "couldn't give me an update because she didn't know where I lived" .... in which I suggested I give her my address. When I gave her my address SHE asked ME what step of the process we were at... like they had no information on file about us. After the perc test on July 2nd, they didn't come out to start until mid September 2025. To their credit, they put the system in in about 2 days, so we felt really encouraged we were finally almost done. Then had to wait an extra 2 weeks with our yard completely torn up because their electrician couldn't come out because they didn't contact him in time. We ended up getting our own electrician to speed up the process. After they finished, the left our yard with the access pipes sticking 4-6 inches out of the ground after they said it would only be a quarter of an inch. I even included my shoe in a picture to let you see how far out of the ground these pipes are sticking, it's ridiculous and a hazard. The ground is completely uneven, they didn't even try to grade it and there are so many rocks that growing grass is pretty much impossible. Even if we were able to grow grass, mowing would be dangerous as rocks would be flying everywhere. We started this project in April 2025 and they finished early October 2025 right in time for the rain and frost so growing is impossible anyways. Seriously, run away from this company. We have had multiple people come over and ask us what happened to our yard. Friends who had other companies redo their septic system were appalled they treated us this way. This company does not care about you.

Mason came out on the weekend (in the pouring rain of course) did some pumping $425. and found the…read morepump had seized working (he said it looked like some cheap pump from Home Depot) He was great, went and got us a fabulous pump $1,500. modified it to fit and installed. He was a charming professional, great young man, that knew exactly what to do. His boss said we could have the job for the $1,500. IF we could pay it all right now, we could only scrape together $1000. (weekend, bank closed and all we had available) so now have to pay the additional (total $925). in a couple weeks after we get paid. There are no discounts for seniors, veterans, first responders etc. they do not do credit checks, nor do they make payment arrangements to ease burden for low income, wanting immediate large payments only. Mason was a wonderful employee, knew his stuff, honest young man and we would be happy to have him come out again if we had any issues.

I've hired Sewer Rats 3 times - for work at 2 of my North-East Portland homes. Once they provided…read morethe most painless and inexpensive way to replace a busted Water Heater - that was flooding a basement . They bought one at their Company rate for me - and brought it right over to install - and returned with a dolly and truck later to haul off my old one, which I really appreciated. I've also used Sewer Rat Patrick a few times for Residential Sink Clean-outs, the first time, after unsuccessfully trying to un-clog the drain myself for hours. It was a stoopid mistake to even try. Just call Patrick right away - just plan a few bucks in your annual maintenance budget, and save your self the frustration and mess. He suggested once how I might save some money by doing a few procedures myself - but frankly I'd rather hire him than run HOT water for an hour and fight with the dang mucky Snake. Patrick's work also has received positive comments from others, after I referred him to friends for various drain emergencies. You'll get a written receipt, and patient, polite treatment - with a charming Jersey Boy accent - for the fast work. Thanx, Pat! Charlie Papp (who did most of the marketing and created the Branding for the Company) died 2 years ago in June - but Patrick Biscoff is still doing fast and reliable work at a great rate. Related work: To repair or replace your Sewer line to help sell your old house: call Ted Reynolds. They: have big trucks and back-hoes, all the impressive equipment needed for the job, work even in the rain, leave a clean work-site, and can do a Video scope first to help you understand and SEE what's needed. They saved me money after a higher bid came in that would have also required a sidewalk replacement, and even prevented damage to plants that were in the way by moving, then replacing them afterward. Way - Kool! Nice work Crew too. Sierra Excavating can also do this work, at a comparable rate, and the (gorgeous) Owner formerly worked with Reynolds. They speak highly of one another, and Sierra was recommended by an experienced Broker. For a good Plumber, hire Dean Pottle, if you can get him. Sewer Rats' Owner Patrick B recommends Dean, (As Seen on Cable TV Dean's Scene) as do others I've spoken with for referrals. Dean is also a like-able guy, and really into good Micro-brews, too - so offer one when the job is done.

I had the septic pumped out but the two drains(washing machine and one of the bathtubs) still backed up. I called him on a Saturday and he agreed to come out the next day, Sunday. He came, snaked the two problem drains and did not ask for any additional money-on a Sunday! I highly recommend Dave, as he is reliable, responsive and honest.
