My understanding is that if the septic tank or drainfield ever needed replacement, the city would require I hook up to the city sewer. I decided to have that done now rather than having to do it in an emergency in the future, or having a future owner of the house deal with it when they wouldn't know what obstacles there are in the ground to have to work around than I do. I used Yelp reviews to pick two contractors to get cost estimates from. One was located in the Portland suburbs and one in Clark County. The cost was expensive but I expected that because the hookup needed to be a pumped system that goes around the yard and up the driveway, not a simple gravity connect from house to street. One contractor indicated I should initiate a hook up permit to the city so I went there. One of the tasks of the job was right-of-way work in the street to hookup to the sewer that runs along the middle of the street. The city gave me a list of contractors who are on their approved list who have done that work with the city before. I looked through the list and didn't find either of the contractors that I had picked so far, but found one that looked like a possible third option- Clog Pro. I didn't look into Clog Pro prior to that because I figured from their name that they specialize in unclogging drains and pipes rather than other plumbing work. But their web site listed sewer connections as one of the things they do. So they came and looked over the project and gave an estimate. Discussing the job with the Clog Pro supervisor (Jesse), his understanding of the job impressed me the most, although the other two companies probably would have done a good job also. Also, Clog Pro's price was lower than the other two. I hired Clog Pro. I had always dreaded going ahead with this project because of the things that could go wrong. For example, the sewer pipe had to go close to some wires in the ground that control valves for my irrigation system, and I was worried they might be damaged. But the project went incredibly smoothly, no problems. From when I first got the estimate it was only about two weeks until the job was completed. I would never have thought that this job would go so smoothly. I am extremely impressed with the job they did, as well as how reasonable their charges were.

I recently posted a project involving 3 rain-gutter drains that were blocked and overflowing. Louis (aka 'That Drain Guy') contacted me and arranged to come out at 9:00 the next day and assess the problem. After calling to let me know he was en route, Louis arrived on time, looked the drain fields over, and told me how he would like to approach the problem. Louis arrived with 25 years of experience and all the tools necessary to get the job done in one stop. He quickly identified the problems and got 2 of the 3 drains unblocked. The third drain required excavation and repair (which Louis does not do) so he identified the most likely spot to begin digging. He also cleaned everything up when he finished. Louis worked efficiently and his prices were fair. His hourly rate was not the lowest that I received, but Louis does not charge 'trip time', he only started the charge 'clock 'once he was working, and all rounding was in my favor. I timed him at 2 1/2 hours but Louis only billed 2 hours. I feel I got my money's worth and I will definitely call Louis when I need this type of work done again. read more

We called That Drain Guy to check out an overflowing downspout drain. He responded very quickly and came out the same afternoon. To his, and our, surprise he found the drain clogged with children's toy balls and other strange items. Instead of just rodding them further down the system he took the time to snag each of them out. He also taught us about the signs of a clogged downspout - valuable knowledge. Louis is knowledgeable, creative, and really wants to solve the problem. We would call him again, for sure. read more

Sink clogged up on Friday night after dinner, and I spent about an hour with a plunger trying to get it open again. No luck. I called a plumbing company who said they couldn't get here until Monday. Then I call That Drain Guy. He was here Sat. morning with his equipment. Took him less than an hour to re-open the sink drain. And the fee was the fixed rate of $275 he had quoted in advance. They committed to a time between 12 noon and 2pm and sure enough the tech showed up. He did a consummate job on replacing the drain. I happened to have the Enviro Tech drain part left over from the faucet installation back in 2007, So that was no problem. I'd definitely recommend and use their services again. :-)
