My radon system fan seized up so I contacted Environmental Works to take a look at it. They promptly scheduled a visit to inspect and repair the system. The tech who arrived on time noted that the system was probably still under warranty (I'm a new owner of the house and it was installed by the previous owner). He encouraged me to contact the installer and they are replacing it for me under warranty. I really appreciate the honesty and customer service from Sol. These people are grifters. My real estate agent recommended them to decommission the cesspit that was found in my yard by the sewer inspection. They sent a bid for $5100. Painful, but they buyer wants it done before closing. Then I was told that I had to pay $250 for them to come out and locate it, even though it had already been located. This is in addition to the estimate. So they send this 20-something kid out. He spends all of 15 minutes on my property, most of which is locating the oil tank that we explicitly told him had already been decommissioned. He told me he saw no reason that the workers would have to damage my patio, which I paid $12000 to have professionally installed. Project day arrives. They send super young dudes out to my house with a digger. I doubt they were old enough to buy beer. I asked how they protect the ground from the machine. They must have misunderstood because they told me they put down plywood. Nope. They drove it through my neighbor's yard and my yard after heavy rains leaving deep tracks, then they dug a foot into my patio. When they uncovered the cesspit it was already 3/4 full. So here's me thinking surely my bill will be lower, right? There was a quote for materials and labor. Less materials were needed to fill the hole. Less labor. Nope. Bill arrives for $5100. They also say they will put down grass seed, and that never happened either. So they tore up my yard and my neighbor's yard, damaged my patio, even managed to break one of the pavers, and didn't even put grass seed down. Avoid this company. Greedy, unprofessional, sent unsupervised kids to do the work, don't do what they say they will do, and they do not care how they treat your property. read more

I used Environmental Works to remove my in-basement oil tank. They provided a very competitive quote ($1195) and said they would be done in 2 hours. On the day they arrived early (after calling to confirm it was OK). They got right to it, and had to drain the remainder of the oil, before cutting the tank into pieces. They were very professional, cemented over the wall where the pipes had been, removed the exterior pipes and cemented those. And laid down some odor-absorbing stuff to help with the smell. I'd recommend these for oil tank removal. (And by the way, my wife used them for her father's exterior oil tank decommission 2 years ago and it also went really well.) read more

My hard-earned advice to you: Do yourself a big favor and hire Cascade Radon for your radon mitigation project. I wish I had. Everyone I dealt with there was incredibly helpful, super professional, and went waaaay above and beyond when I consulted with them to fix the issues created by Environmental Works. If I could go back and hire them in the first place, I would in a heartbeat. Environmental Works' project technicians and office staff were fine to deal with - I'm afraid I can't say the same for the owner, Matt, and his radon foreman, Mark. I have never hired people for a project and been treated the way these two men treated me. Talking over me and not letting me finish speaking, raising their voices at me when frustrated, , saying things like "I'm not going to get into a therapy session with you" when I asked the owner how he would feel if a vendor he had hired did a shoddy job *AND* destroyed his property (the technician left a 4 X 7' oil stain on my driveway that they initially weren't going to take responsibility for, but finally did, after I threatened to go to the BBB, contractor's board, and take legal action). When I'm hiring a vendor, I want to give my money to nice people who are easy to deal with, but these two men were exceedingly unpleasant. The work itself had problems, too. They decided to route the pipe through my bedroom closet (?!) instead of along the outside of my house and the hissing of the pipe at night in my quiet neighborhood kept me up for weeks until it was ultimately remedied. The technician also neglected to install a fire collar on the penetration between my garage and closet, which was serious safety concern. I usually only use Yelp to write 5-star reviews for service providers who are excellent and who I want others to have the good fortune of working with. I know how important these reviews are to small businesses. That said, I don't hesitate to leave a 1-star review for Environmental Works. While you may save a little dough by hiring them, if something goes wrong, trust me, these are *not* the kind of people you want to deal with to make things right. This company was hired by the buyers of our home for an inspection and left a mess from one end of our home to the other. Insulation from the crawl space was tracked to every room of the house, rugs crumpled, closets partially emptied into the room because they dug through closets instead of asking us where the crawl space was, and didn't even close windows for the radon test. ‍ it was careless, but more importantly, it was disrespectful I came in and couldn't even put my toddler down because it wasn't safe for him! We had originally reviewed this company back in 8/2022 as we used them for Radon mitigation while selling our home. We had originally given a 5 star review after assuming all their work was done to code. It seems this company did not complete the necessary work and has now caused our family legal troubles as the new homeowner has been left with a failed radon inspection by the city. Backstory is that our home failed the radon test during inspection. We received bids to fix the radon and finally agreed on using Environmental Works LLC. We showed the company the pictures from the inspection and asked for a quote to fix the issues. Not being familiar with Radon (or even realizing we had a radon system in the house) we accepted their suggestion on how to fix the issue, signed the contract and paid the bill. They completed their work and got the radon down to the acceptable level and left notes that the city would have to inspect the work since they had to pull a permit. The inspection took place after our home closed and the new owners took possession. However, they have been notified by the city that the radon system failed inspection because there was not a vapor barrier installed, which is required for radon systems. The new homeowner called environmental works and the owner untruthfully said that we did not want a vapor barrier when the work was being done and that they would put one in for an additional $1000. As a homeowner who knows/knew nothing about Radon systems, we would never agree to not having work done that is 1. necessary for a radon system or 2. required to pass a city inspection. The gentleman who came to collect the final test prior to closing gave us the instruction sheet to have the city come and check their work. Why would they tell us it needed to be inspected if they knew the work would not pass without a vapor barrier? The workers the company used to complete the work were very professional and we have no complaints on that end of the business, however the owner of the company is being less than truthful about the work he completed. When getting our home ready to sell, we hired Environmental Works to decommission the tank. It turns out, the tank had leaked a large quantity of oil. The remediation process is stressful, because it is done step by step, and you don't know how much work it will take to meet the DEQ standards. Each step is more complicated and more costly, and can add up to tens of thousands of dollars. Dave, the project manager was wonderful to work with. He was so reassuring and explained the process in detail. He made a very stressful situation so much better! We were also on a pretty tight timeline because another contractor was scheduled to do work on our house. Dave made sure that everything got done on time. The crew worked hard, barely even taking a break. They had to bring an excavator up and down our driveway and around the side of the house, in a pretty small area. They worked diligently to remove as much of the contaminated soil as possible, without getting too close to the foundation. In the end, they removed nearly 17 tons of soil, and were able to satisfy the DEQ requirements without needing to resort to more costly measures. When the work was done, you could barely tell that they had been there. Early on in the project, they made a mistake which caused some oil to leak into the basement. I understand why it happened and the situation was handled well, so I actually have more respect for them because of it. You can really find out how much integrity a company has by seeing how they handle problems. This is a great company and I highly recommend them. read more

Water leak was a bit of a mystery that the other companies also did not fix. My Handyman found the leak in the pipe joint and sealed it. We had our oil tank decommissioned. EWorks stuck to their contracted work and did a fine job, but I would use a different company (Soil Solutions) in the future. I would advise others to beware of the "for an extra $100 (cost at the time) you can have your soil tested more extensively for carcinogens". We said sure and this almost cost us an extra $10,000!!!! Yes we had an oil leak but we were not about to let Eworks keep digging a pool size hole until they hot rock bottom, like they did with our neighbors. The only reason they gave our neighbors a clean bill of health was because they could not did a larger or deeper hole in their yard. I believe this company takes advantage of homeowners when they are buying and selling their home. Emotions are high and poor judgement is used. Make sure you know your rights and stop this company before they use your entire budget on soil and oil tank removal. They will also send your reports to the DEQ (as required by law). I do not believe they are honest or a company I would recommend or use in the future. I believe they over charge and would be happy to dig up the entire block if they could get away with it. read more

We used Environmental Works to receive a second opinion after Alpha Environmental quoted us with $8,000 in repairs to the sewer line at the house we are buying in the Raleigh Hills area. Environmental Works determined that Alpha Environmental had scoped the wrong pipe (Alpha scoped the storm drain instead of the sewer line). After scoping the correct sewer line, they assured us that no repairs were needed and we were all very relieved. Environmental Works was extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and thorough. I hired Environmental Works for radon mitigation. EW guarantees that they will maintain 2.7 pCi/L after installation, or additional work is free, and they stood by that for me. My long term test was over 4 pCi/L, and they were back out within a month to do the work. Before I selected them, I received three bids, and picked EW because they spent the most time with me answering questions on the system and on the contract terms, they arrived (to provide the quote) on time, they had the most reasonable bid, and they had the guarantee. We had a device put in our inner NE PDX (1923) house. They were professional and quick. The device is big, not attractive and it does make noise, a lot of noise (constantly). During the day the noise is not notable, but at night it matters. I believe the house is safer before putting in the radon device and I like that peace of mind a lot. I found my home in outer SE Portland had a radon problem by doing a Home Depot test and sending it to a lab after hearing a radio show on KBOO that mentioned radon in outer SE. I contacted Environmental Works when the initial results showed that my house had 7 times of radon that the EPA says is safe and 10 times what the WHO declares is a safe amount. Joel and his staff did a second test to confirm that I had a radon problem, then offered the most cost effective plan to mitigate my radon problem. This involved a three-phase project (my house proved to be more difficult to mitigate than most). Joel and his staff were punctual, professional, and worked to solve my radon situation in a timely and efficient manner. Selling our home - told the buyer the sewer line would need to be replaced. Sent a video of a completely clear line with audio - the tech clearly states that the line is fine but then sat in his car and wrote up a quote to dig up the line and replace for more than $5,000. Have not seen the evidence of a broken line - called a different company who confirmed that no work was needed and also stated that this was one of the cleanest lines he has scoped. He did see the tiniest of roots at the top of the line on a joint, but stated it was not tree roots and could be easily remedied by cleaning the line for about $100. I hired EW to decommision our heating oil tank. I had to make several phone calls to get someone out to our house, but they eventually dug down, opened up the tank and filled it with material. So far, so good. The cost was around $1,000. I was then told the tank had leaked and that soil testing and a report was needed. I approved the extra work and was billed $3,620. EW was insistent that I pay all this in advance, which I reluctantly did. Over 80 days have now elapsed (since I paid the $3,620 bill), and I still haven't received anything! When I called a number of weeks ago, Mr. Pardue said they were behind on reports, but don't typically provide the client a copy of the report anyway. I was shocked, especially since the report represented $2,300 of the bill. Mr. Pardue then said they would provide a copy of the report for an extra $40 or $50! When I protested, he eventually said he would provide a "free" copy. But 11 weeks have passed and I havent received anything. If you hire EW, don't be in a rush and don't foolishly pay in advance like I did. And if you want a copy of the report you're paying for, plan on an additional negotiation. Not happy. read more

The person who came out to talk me through the project and the tech who installed were both very nice people. However, they routed a radon pipe on a visible side of our chimney when they could have put it on the opposite. I feel like that is something they should have thought through and talked about prior since radon mitigation is first priority but to a homeowner, the aesthetic of a white pipe on the visible side of the house is pretty important. They said they could fix it but would charge me. The reason I'm mostly unhappy with the resolution of this is that I have contacted them since discussing the reroute with them via email and radio-silence. Booked a plumber for an easy kitchen drain unclogging. It went well and took the guy about 45 minutes. He noticed the p trap was leaking and said he could fix it easily..... an hour later he was done. Charged me $160 for about 7$ worth of parts and what would normally take about 15 minutes. Be very careful and monitor their work. Do not let them do anything without an agreed quote before. Bait and switch. The plumber was nice and respectful, but I didn't monitor all his activities and it cost me. only hire them as a last resort read more

We were billed for the entire amount, long after they had cashed our payment in full. Received an adjusted bill still stating we should pay an additional amount.
