We weren't sure if we should get a private driver for the Road to Hana but I'm so glad we did. AND I'm so glad we went with Kyle of Sandy Cheeks. He was the BEST. He was knowledgeable, entertaining but also safe. He took us to places we hadn't read about. He even showed us a cool almost hidden lava tube and walked us through it with flash lights for all of us! He provided drinks and snacks and also showed us some really cool places to stop for snacks. We had the freshest fruit tray and the tastiest poke. Since it had rained a lot a few days before we were treated to lots of waterfalls. He was patient and let us stop and stay as long as we wanted to get the right picture. By the end of the day, we felt like family. I highly recommend Kyle!

We experienced the "ultimate" Road to Hana Tour with Kyle! He is truly an amazing tour guide that provided us a worry free and safe trip around the island! Kyle was a lot of fun to spend the entire day with exploring local hidden gems that you wouldn't find with others tours! In our opinion, he is 5+ stars!! Mahalo nui loa Kyle! #hairraisingexperience

My family and I went on "the road to Hana" tour yesterday with Kyle , and I must say we had the greatest time ever. He took us to places regular tourists don't always see or come to. He has a great sense of humor and very much down to earth human being. We can't wait to come back to Maui and do this again. Kyle you made us all feel like family and it was a pleasure having met you. Thank you again for a fantastic time. Dean Scruton Oregon city.

Kyle, with Sandy Cheeks Tours was simply amazing! We (my husband, myself and our 12 year old son) booked for the 1/2 way to Hana on July 3rd 2023 and everything about it was perfect. Kyle has a great personality and fit right in with our family. Great conversations as he told us the history about how he ended up in Maui years ago, to starting his tour business. He was very personable and funny. He took us to some off the hidden path, yet beautiful areas where there weren't a lot of other folks so it was nice to jump in and swim in a waterfall that we had all to ourselves. He jumped in and swim with us, he even caught a crawfish. He took us to have some good food (banana bread, fish tacos, ice-cream). It was truly a great day topped off with stopping at a beach where sea turtles were sunbathing (so cool). I'm so glad we booked with Sandy Cheeks Tours, Kyle navigated the roads with precision and definitely confirmed that there was no way I or my husband would have been able to survive the drive ourselves (at least not safely). Also, we were truly able to just sit back and take in all of the beautiful views while someone else did driving, it was totally worth it! Kyle also provided water, Gatorade, and snacks. I strongly recommend Sandy Cheeks Tours, we would most definitely book with him again!

THE BEST PRIVATE TOUR IN MAUI! Definitely recommend booking a private tour with Sandy Cheeky Tours! Kyle and Erin are phenomenal tour guides that took great care of us (party of 9 with various ages ranging from 3-65). They are extremely knowledgable about the Road to Hana. They know all the hidden gems and local spots. They also take the time to craft the tour to meet the unique interest and activity levels of everyone. They even specialize the route we take and time visiting particular locations to avoid tourist traps. An unforgettable experience and the highlight our trip!! We cant wait to book again with Kyle and Erin!! They are amazing and great with the little ones!! My kids had the best time and learned so much!

I cannot say enough great things about Kyle and Sandy Cheeks Tours. He made our trip to Maui so special. We have done the road to Hana many times but Kyle was able to make this trip much more entertaining than any of the others. He took us to very unique locations. I will admit, when we first booked a tour for Hana I was disappointed, we have always done the trip on our own, allowing us time to stop anywhere and do anything. Sandy Cheeks Tours was so much better. Don't try this trip on your own!! Take Kyle!! Kyle told us so much more about the island and history that you cannot get anywhere else. He took us to places that are not on any app or purchased self tour. He will make your trip unforgettable.

Sandy cheeks was a rare find, sorry it's taken so long to review. I found Kyle to focus more on what I personally found interesting as opposed to a generic tour. It felt more like a easy conversation than a moving lecture or drill with a clear love of Hawaiian lore and history coming across in every story told. Kyle also was easy with the pace ...he followed our group lead on which spots where we wanted to spent more time. The road to Hana Highly recommend, even more so with a new friend you just met, thanks Kyle for making it special.

Amazing tour of the Road to Hana with Kyle! A private tour with him is definitely the way to go! We missed the traffic and crowds, and got to see some epic scenery we otherwise would have missed on our own. Kyle is funny and knowledgeable. This was by far our favorite day on Maui. We will definitely book Sandy Cheeks again some day when we return!

We had an awesome time on our private tour with Sandy Cheeks tour. Kyle was knowledgeable, personable and fun to be with on the tour. Kyle stopped when my husband need his caffeine fix or bathroom breaks. We would highly recommend Sandy Cheeks as your tour guide

    Fresh fruit stop!

Sandy cheeks Tour is thee absolute best!! He was the highlight of our trip. My aunts surprised me and my husband with this as a wedding gift while at our destination wedding! He knows the whole island and took us to places others would not have. He was so relate able and kept us laughing the whole time. He knows all the history of the island. The food truck lunch was delicious and we will definitely be doing this again when we go back! My husband became his best friend while on the ride lol and now they follow each other on Instagram. 100000% recommended!!!!!

Top to bottom, this personalized tour was fantastic. We saw and experienced things a lot of people only see in pictures or on postcards. We highly recommend any of the tours to visitors (or locals) in Maui! Kyle was personable, knowledgeable and kept us laughing the entire time. This is definitely an experience we will remember!

My pregnant wife and I booked a full-day private tour and it was our best day on the island! I have Autism Spectrum Disorder and even though Kyle was unaware of this, he was such an empathetic person and so personable that he put me at ease. Trust me when I say this no small feat. We WILL be booking with him again when we bring the whole family back!!!

We had a group of 7 for the Road to Hana tour, so Kyle and Jared took us out in two cars. And when I say took us out, they went above and beyond and showed us some amazing sites along the way. As first timers in Maui, this road can be daunting but it is a MUST and having a private tour guide and driver takes all the stress out so you can just enjoy the day and take in all the beauty that Maui has to offer. Both Kyle and Jared are super knowledgeable about the island, the sites, the plants - everything you want to know, just ask. They will even cater the tour for what your group is down for. And if you're not sure, just leave the decisions in their hands and you will not be disappointed!

One of the many swimming holes we were taken too.

We had visited before in 2012 during lavender season, which was lovely, but coming in mid-January there really wasn't much to see. The views at the top are still beautiful, but I'd honestly recommend visiting only when lavender is in season to make it worthwhile. Also worth noting: it's quite windy in this part of Maui, and the terrain is very steep, so walking around can be a bit challenging.

We had visited once before back in 2012 and remembered it being a great experience, and it's nice to see how much the farm has upgraded since then. They offer goat and cheese tours that you can sign up for online. This time, we just wandered around the grounds and relaxed while watching the goats and baby kids play in their pen. We also bought a $10 bucket of hay to feed the goats off to the side. We were told they were under a year old, though they were already pretty much adult-sized! They were extremely enthusiastic about the hay, and the bucket was gone in no time. It was such a fun and wholesome experience, for both me and the goats. We didn't reserve a tour ahead of time, and the next one was not for over an hour, so we decided to just walk around the grounds on our own. We started with the cheese tasting. They have a patio area to sit at, and they just call your name when your tasting is ready. They give you information with the cheeses, so you know what you are trying. The shop had a nice assortment of other gifts, as well as the truffles. The truffles were definitely my favorite. You can just get one if you want, or you can pick out several to make a box to take home. We walked around and saw the area where the babies/young goats played on the surfboards, which is super cute. The adults are all over in different areas, and you will even see them on the roofs of different buildings. The tour would have been nice to learn some history and information, but it is still really nice to go without the tour. It was a fun and peaceful little experience.

Not only did we get to ride in comfort with all our stuff, but we also customized every stop. We could easily say "yes" or "no" to any stop on the Road to Hana. Our tour guide Chris was excellent, informative, and fun to hang out with for the entire day. Chris had great recommendations for us and the food stops were amazing and delicious and tailored to what we were feeling or not feeling. We had a general idea of the stops we wanted to hit based on our research, but Chris went above and beyond to show us unique stops and views and scenic views. We made great memories and got to experience the road to Hana in a way that far exceeded our expectations. All though it was not the most affordable way to experience the road to Hana, we still felt it was worth the cost. It will be a great memory for us for years to come. I can now say I swam in a waterfall....a very cold one, but definitely worth it. Chris knows these roads and all the stops you might want to see, and he customized it to our level of adventure, including hikes and swims along the way. You can definitely find cheaper alternatives, but I would suggest speaking with Awapuhi Adventures to see if they can meet your needs. The pros of going private is that you are in the drivers seat (figuratively) for where and when to stop, and can skip anything that seems generic or not to your liking. The con is that it will cost some $$$. In our experience, it was worth it! Thanks again, Chris!

The Hala tree amazed me and so did the big red flower- torch ginger, which actually looks like a vibrant staff fit for a king. I would never have learnt about them in detail if not for this trip. All this besides the actual trip to the waterfalls, the encouragement he gave to the other group was astounding (I don't swim myself unfortunately, or the fun would have tripled for me). He supported, guided, advised, and made them have the time of their life with the diving and the swimming. Three cheers to the B.Rex. Hike Maui site itself had useful info for the walk and I brought the water shoes after reading about it on their site, it really worked great out there. The best part was the passion fruit which was handed out as a parting gift. It was my first time to eat that fruit too. Note: The waterfalls are accessible privately with rental car too. You could explore the area in your own sweet time. But I did notice there were not many signs with specific directions inside the forest. And no labels on the plants. Most places no mobile signals either. That said, you could do it on your own. I cannot say enough about this trip. It is for all ages and a great little Maui to explore comfortably. I've done the Road to Hana tour before, and had a great experience but it was on a bigger tour trip. We had an amazing tour guide that time, but I came this time with my FIANCÉ and his mom who have never been to Hawaii and I was afraid if we got a boring tour guide, it would be a LONG day. I started looking on Yelp in hopes it would help me narrow down the best of the best and that it absolutely did. I saw the raves about Willie and knew it was going to be worth every penny. Willie called me to talk about what we wanted to get out of our trip, and he also checked back in the day before to reiterate details about where to meet, etc. We told him we really wanted to see beautiful waterfalls and some cool secret, less touristy spots. We began our drive and Willie pulled off on this little beach, and said he wanted to show us something. We walked down, and there were sea turtles all over the beach which just made my MIL's day right off the bat. Then we went to the most delicious breakfast spot I have ever been to, hands down. All along the way, he told us about the areas we were driving through, the weather there, and gave us cool little tidbits of information. We went to the Garden of Eden where to my surprise, I got ENGAGED! Willie was so sweet and so happy for us, hugs all around. He truly made that moment, and the whole day really feel like we were with a friend we'd known forever. We went to the most amazing, secret waterfall and got to swim in the swimming hole and jump off rocks with no one else around! This was the absolute most beautiful spot I've ever been in my life and we never would've found it on our own or without Willie. Ryan even sent us home with a "4-pack" of coconuts so we could have some fresh coconut water for the rest of our trip. Highly recommend - please go check it out!
