We had an incredible day on the Hana Highway thanks to Kyle of Sandy Cheeks Tours. It was a private tour with Kyle driving (my husband was so happy) and we saw waterfalls, swam in lagoons, hit up beautiful beaches, ate wild berries, had coconut ice cream from a food truck, had the best poke bowl ever, hung out with turtles, and saw so much of Hana. An amazing adventure day for the whole family! Cannot recommend him enough! Kyle brought drinks, snacks, towels, incredible knowledge, and a wonderful personality. He personalizes the tour to what we wanted to see and we loved talking with all day and listening to his incredible knowledge of Maui. Can't wait to book again with him! It was an absolute highlight of our trip. read more

When my wife suggested that we hire a driver to take us to Hana, I wasn't sure why we would need one. Then I started reading online about how windy and narrow the roads were. Combined with the fact that the road to Hana is nicknamed "the Road to divorce", well that made it an easy decision to go along with it. I am so glad I did! Kyle was an amazing tour guide. Not only was he well prepared for the trip with snacks and drinks, the vehicle was extremely comfortable, and he provided a running commentary all along the way of facts and history. Best of all, he stopped at places which people who were driving themselves would never know about. We would literally pass dozens of cars parked on the side of the road only to go down the way about a mile, pull off on some side road, and find an even better more secluded beach to swim. I am so glad we used Sandy Cheeks!! read more

We weren't sure if we should get a private driver for the Road to Hana but I'm so glad we did. AND I'm so glad we went with Kyle of Sandy Cheeks. He was the BEST. He was knowledgeable, entertaining but also safe. He took us to places we hadn't read about. He even showed us a cool almost hidden lava tube and walked us through it with flash lights for all of us! He provided drinks and snacks and also showed us some really cool places to stop for snacks. We had the freshest fruit tray and the tastiest poke. Since it had rained a lot a few days before we were treated to lots of waterfalls. He was patient and let us stop and stay as long as we wanted to get the right picture. By the end of the day, we felt like family. I highly recommend Kyle! read more

My family and I went on "the road to Hana" tour yesterday with Kyle , and I must say we had the greatest time ever. He took us to places regular tourists don't always see or come to. He has a great sense of humor and very much down to earth human being. We can't wait to come back to Maui and do this again. THE BEST PRIVATE TOUR IN MAUI! Definitely recommend booking a private tour with Sandy Cheeky Tours! Kyle and Erin are phenomenal tour guides that took great care of us (party of 9 with various ages ranging from 3-65). They are extremely knowledgable about the Road to Hana. They know all the hidden gems and local spots. They also take the time to craft the tour to meet the unique interest and activity levels of everyone. They even specialize the route we take and time visiting particular locations to avoid tourist traps. An unforgettable experience and the highlight our trip!! We cant wait to book again with Kyle and Erin!! They are amazing and great with the little ones!! My kids had the best time and learned so much! read more

Kyle, with Sandy Cheeks Tours was simply amazing! We (my husband, myself and our 12 year old son) booked for the 1/2 way to Hana on July 3rd 2023 and everything about it was perfect. Kyle has a great personality and fit right in with our family. Great conversations as he told us the history about how he ended up in Maui years ago, to starting his tour business. He was very personable and funny. He took us to some off the hidden path, yet beautiful areas where there weren't a lot of other folks so it was nice to jump in and swim in a waterfall that we had all to ourselves. He jumped in and swim with us, he even caught a crawfish. He took us to have some good food (banana bread, fish tacos, ice-cream). It was truly a great day topped off with stopping at a beach where sea turtles were sunbathing (so cool). I'm so glad we booked with Sandy Cheeks Tours, Kyle navigated the roads with precision and definitely confirmed that there was no way I or my husband would have been able to survive the drive ourselves (at least not safely). Also, we were truly able to just sit back and take in all of the beautiful views while someone else did driving, it was totally worth it! Kyle also provided water, Gatorade, and snacks. I strongly recommend Sandy Cheeks Tours, we would most definitely book with him again! read more

I cannot say enough great things about Kyle and Sandy Cheeks Tours. He made our trip to Maui so special. We have done the road to Hana many times but Kyle was able to make this trip much more entertaining than any of the others. He took us to very unique locations. I will admit, when we first booked a tour for Hana I was disappointed, we have always done the trip on our own, allowing us time to stop anywhere and do anything. Sandy Cheeks Tours was so much better. Don't try this trip on your own!! Take Kyle!! Kyle told us so much more about the island and history that you cannot get anywhere else. He took us to places that are not on any app or purchased self tour. He will make your trip unforgettable. read more

Sandy cheeks was a rare find, sorry it's taken so long to review. I found Kyle to focus more on what I personally found interesting as opposed to a generic tour. It felt more like a easy conversation than a moving lecture or drill with a clear love of Hawaiian lore and history coming across in every story told. Kyle also was easy with the pace ...he followed our group lead on which spots where we wanted to spent more time. The road to Hana Highly recommend, even more so with a new friend you just met, thanks Kyle for making it special. read more

My wife and I have done self-guided tours through the road to Hana many times before. This trip around, my sister decided to book Sandy Cheeks Tours as this was her first time coming to Maui with her own family. Kyle was our tour guide. He's a Maui local so he knows all the ins and outs on Maui. Kyle is a very knowledgeable, friendly, and an entertaining tour guide. Having him as a tour guide really gives you a better understanding of the history of the road to Hana and culture on Maui. Sandy Cheeks Tours also does tours for other sites around the island. Next time we visit Maui to check out the other scenic sites, we know exactly who we're hiring as our tour guide. I highly recommend Sandy Cheeks Tours for your Maui tours! read more

There is so much to see and do on the road to Hana and we knew we wouldn't be able to do each recommended stop so we decided to have a local guide show us around to take the guesswork out of everything. We're also not fans of tour bus type tours so we were able to narrow it down to Sandy Cheeks tours based on the excellent reviews. We did the road to Hana with Kyle as our guide and had a really great stress-free experience. It was as if we were being shown around by an old friend. He took us to some great sites and we got to see a little bit of everything from waterfalls to lava tubes to even a friendly miniature horse named George that lives on the beach all while getting a nice overview of the area and the local culture. We also made stops at all the essential stalls for delicious banana bread, fresh young coconut water, and fish tacos. We enjoyed our tour so much that we are certain to have Kyle show us around once we come back to Maui. We highly recommend this tour to anyone who wants a fun, relaxed adventure with a great guide. Thanks Kyle! Stay awesome read more

Amazing Tour! Being able to customize your tour is the best option one can have! You get to pick and chose what you want to do and the guide has all the info on the best spots. We drove the road to Hana by ourselves once and it was overwhelming and stressful driving. Then we took the tour with Kyle and had the best time ever! We could relax in the passenger seats and be taken to the coolest spots around. Hidden waterfalls and swimming pools- sweet spots to jump off cliff- amazing fruit stands- beautiful beaches- great food spots and someone telling you all the history and cool facts about what your seeing! Simply the best tour guide ever! Highly recommend this tour to anyone and everyone- adults only or family friendly! Kyle is the best!! read more

I'm writing this review to thank Kyle for an amazing experience with the Sandy Cheeks Tours. We have a family with 3 boys ages 10, 8 and 2. I really wanted to show our children the "real" Maui and not let them leave the island thinking it is all hotels and swimming pools. I called Kyle and told him I was hiking with small kids and I hoped we could experience Hawaii and all of its natural beauty. I had dreams of jumping into pools filled by waterfalls, finding secret beaches, hidden little spots where locals go and getting a real feel for wild life. All of this while keeping our kids safe but having fun too. Kyle really delivered and we made some amazing memories. He took us to Lava tubes, cave diving with flashlights, showed us old churches, we fed horses, had coconuts and so much more. He even brought along a babysitter to help us along. If you are looking for a family friendly guide Sandy Cheeks Tours will not disappoint. It was such a wonderful experience. He had wonderful stories of the island. He also has a warm and friendly personality that the kids just loved. We felt safe and everyone made memories that will last a lifetime. read more

We had a group of 7 for the Road to Hana tour, so Kyle and Jared took us out in two cars. And when I say took us out, they went above and beyond and showed us some amazing sites along the way. As first timers in Maui, this road can be daunting but it is a MUST and having a private tour guide and driver takes all the stress out so you can just enjoy the day and take in all the beauty that Maui has to offer. Both Kyle and Jared are super knowledgeable about the island, the sites, the plants - everything you want to know, just ask. They will even cater the tour for what your group is down for. And if you're not sure, just leave the decisions in their hands and you will not be disappointed! read more

Great way to see Hana without having to drive it yourself. Our driver was very knowledgeable about Hana and provided overall information that was interesting. The website promises beautiful scenery with the best travel guide on an unforgettable tour. To say that was delivered is an understatement. The views are unmatched and the company was unbeatable. I couldn't imagine driving down that narrow winding road while trying to soak in all the beauty nor did I want to deal with a bus full of tourists. Kyle was the answer to all these concerns! Having a private guide really relieved the stress of planning and trying to navigate via map. He took us to all the best spots and timed it where we were often the only ones there. We passed so many crowded "tourist" spots and really got to explore the hidden gems. We stretched our tour over 2 days to avoid feeling rushed and to ensure we didn't miss a thing. We strolled the red, black and white sand beaches, admired giant sea turtles and goats, hiked to majestic secluded waterfalls, explored lush scenery (even rainbow trees!) and enjoyed fresh fruit in a bamboo hut. Kyle is originally a fellow Texan but is well immersed in the local culture. We even hit the jackpot with fresh caught sashimi and free breakfast due to his Hana fame! His knowledge of Hawaiian history is super impressive and makes the tour even more interesting. All in all, this was hands down the best tour/day ever and I can't wait to do it again! read more

I am long overdue in writing this review. We hired Kyle of Sandy Cheeks Tours in late February 2020 to take us on a full day tour of the road to Hana. I cannot say enough superlative things about our day with Kyle. We were on Oahu for a few days and then Maui for 2 weeks, and we did a lot of great things, but nothing matched this experience. We had never gone on a personal tour before, but if ever there was a time to do a personal tour, you should do it when you want to explore Hana, and Kyle is the perfect person to hire. He was very professional, easy to talk to, listened to what we were interested in (we didn't want to go swimming or jump off cliffs, wanted to take lots of photos of waterfalls, etc. ). Kyle is a safe driver, and a great person. He treated us like family. He picked us up at our house in Makawao and proceeded to take us to amazing places all day. There is no amount of internet research or guidebooks or even an audio tour that can replace someone who really knows all the ins and outs of the Hana Road and knows your preferences and interests. He took us to waterfalls, black sand beaches, a red sand beach, 2 wonderful roadside food stands, and a delicious food truck area for lunch. All the scenery in between was beautiful, too. He took us to see sea turtles and there was a monk seal at one of the black sand beaches (they are endangered). You can tell he loves the land. (I would like to add that he knows where good bathrooms are, too.) We are so happy we chose to spend the day with Kyle as our guide, and highly recommend him. read more

We had a great tour yesterday! Fortunately for us, Kyle had a last minute opening for the Road to Hana. We saw red and black sand beaches, waterfalls, scenic vistas, and a grove of really neat Rainbow Eucalyptus trees. Kyle has a great sense of humor and a seemingly endless store of Maui trivia. My girls, 16 and 13, and I visited Maui for the first time in mid June and definitely wanted to experience the road to Hana. I wanted to be able to enjoy the "journey" too, so I contacted Kyle for a private, "local" perspective tour. He promptly responded and was able to accommodate our date request and was available ,via phone and email, to firm up details of of our tour. We started our tour on the backside of the road, which allowed for less traffic and "tourists" along the way. We visited "secret" spots and often times were one of the only visitors, if not one of only two small groups, at each experience. Having just recently had knee replacement surgery, Kyle tailored the trip to our ability and comfort level. We did short, manageable hikes to access waterfalls, fresh water cave exploring, a local fruit stand and beautiful beaches. We swam in the ocean, explored fresh water caves, jumped off a waterfall into fresh water pool. Kyle is willing to accommodate everyone's comfort level, gently encouraging each of us to experience each of these unique locations to the fullest. Kyle is outgoing, passionate and knowledgeable; not too mention so easy to chat with and get to know(important when spending 8+ hours with a "stranger"). Along the way, he shared tidbits of Hawaiian island history, culture and day to day life. He pointed out distinctive plants and wildlife. I have to say, this was totally the highlight of our trip to Hawaii(having visited both the Big Island and Maui). We will definitely be back, visit with Kyle again, and can guarantee we will have another wonderful, personal and unique experience. read more

Kyle was an amazing guide!! Super knowledgeable and laid back, it really felt like we were hanging out with a friend. Our road to Hana tour with Kyle from Sandy Cheeks was by far the highlight of our entire Maui vacation. Just when you think you've seen it all and done all the "must dos" on your vacation list, go on a tour with Sandy Cheeks! Being my second trip to Maui, I wanted to see more of the local, secret spots rather than the tourist traps you might find in a guide book. I've done the road to Hana once before, but my friends and I drove it. It was beautiful, but NOtHING like cruising and adventuring with Kyle. First of all he is an absolute blast! His fun personality and vast knowledge of the island made the drive and every stop so interesting and fun! It honestly felt like we were hanging out with another friend. The drive around the backside was breathtaking and Kyle handled that road like it was nothing! We hiked to a huge secluded waterfall (which we had to ourselves) took a quick dip and continued our journey to white sand, red sand and black sand beaches. We stopped along the way at a local farm stand and food truck for lunch in Hana. From there the adventures just kept coming! One of my favorite places on the entire island was a swimming hole where we jumped off the cliffs. I was scared but Kyle was really patient did it first and encouraged us all to go for it. I'm so glad I branched out of my comfort zone and will never forget this day! Kyle thank you so much forgiving is a one of a kind tour. Hope to do it again some day because I know you have more tricks and spots up your sleeve! Aloha! read more

This tour was great! Kyle was the greatest tour guide we could've asked for. We spent 10 hours with him and I can assure you that it was worth every second. Not only do you get to experience the beautiful Maui but you can do it private and go to remote places with little to no other people there. Many times we went to amazing "secret" spots with no other tours around. We visited beautiful waterfalls, amazing colored beaches, fruit stands, and so much more. The cave that he takes you to is absolutely breath taking and our lunch location was delicious. I couldn't have asked for a better day. I highly highly recommend this tour, it is very flexible for your abilities. For example my mom isn't all that into the extremes but my sister and dad are complete opposite and sandy cheek tours was able to accommodate both needs very successfully.
