I've ordered take-out several times from Sandro's and have always enjoyed the food. I will generally get a whole chicken with rice/beans/plaintains for less than $20 and this will feed two of us for almost two full meals. Great value. Chicken is tasty. This place is Amazing!!!!! Holy shit was the food Good!!! At first I was so nervous... It's literally a hole in a wall.. You will miss it if you don't look.. The place is a little simple and dull... Which made me a little nervous about how the food would have come... BUT when the food was served,... Man.. That sealed the deal! The rice was perfect, the meat was fresh, the beans are also fresh! Listen, I have been eating beans since I've been born, and I can tell you when beans have been in a pot just seating there and being kept warm.. This place has fresh beans! Want a place that will threaten you if you criticize their food?? Well, you've come to the right place!!! The people who run this restaurant are absolute garbage. According to them, they're never wrong! I had an order that was missing empanadas and they accused me of lying. They thought that I wanted to get free food. The empanadas are $1.50 a piece... why would I want it for free??? Then the soup was disgusting. It tasted like it was left out under the sun for a week.. And so when I called to complain they got furious. They left me on hold for 20 minutes and said they will send another one and it never came! Then when I ordered online from them a week after, they canceled the order and never refunded me. I almost never complain about food and i've never written a review before but, not refunding an order they cancelled for no particular reason is the last straw. I love this place soooooo much! And, they deliver fast. Amazing food and not that expensive. I'm from the south, so I'm used to really good Mexican food at my whim. I've eaten at a lot of Spanish places here and I haven't had very many that I'd suggest but this place is literally, the bomb.... There menu is huge. I've been on a mission to order it all, but gotta stay pretty so I can't do it. Maybe I'll get to it all eventually. I would have to say this is the best spanish food i've had in Astoria thus far. They are very quick and their roasted chickens are seasoned and roasted to perfection. They have a nice dinner combo with rice, beans and salad, but I usually order with yuca and sweet plantains, since I don't know how to prepare those myself. Then for leftovers I might cook up some rice and beans the next day. I can't wait to try their pernil, like the one reviewer Sun L, recommends! The place is small and not fancy but it is clean and the food is great. They take a while to serve you but it is because they make it fresh. The waitresses are shy but courteous, the waitresses are always busy because they also pack the food for deliveries but they are good at keeping an eye on the customer's needs. I love too many things to list on this menu but you can never go wrong with the pollo empanizada with white rice and beans with sweet plantains on the side. I've been searching long and hard for a decent cubano sandwich and an average empanada for over 10 years, so when I'm in the mood for latin food... I generally use these two items as my measuring stick. I just received my order from Sandros. Items ordered: 3 Chicken empanadas 3 Beef empanadas 1 Cubano sandwich 1 Chicken fingers ( just in case all other items were a fail) Delivery: Delivery came super fast, maybe 20 minutes after ordering online with Yelp. The delivery person was rather rude, and he didn't even thank me for my order- don't these delivery people realize that they work on tips based on service, not entitlement?! Not speaking English fluently is no excuse for rudeness. Even just a smile and thank you in your own language is more than enough. Rating: 2.5 Everything in the order was well packaged with appreciated care. Chicken empanadas: the crust was VERY flaky, the best I've experienced. The chicken was mildly spiced- just right. I didn't even feel the need to use the green sauce provided, but I tried it...just to see how it went. Perfect! Rating: 5 Beef empanadas: Same flaky crust. The beef was also mildly spiced...a bit too mild in my opinion. These definitely required the sauce for taste. Rating: 3 Cubano sandwich ( this item arrived in a separate bag): The sandwich wasn't pressed, as I'm used to. It was wrapped in tin foil, but the sandwich was served cold. The hero was not toasted. The sandwich was served with lettuce and tomato. No pickle to add a kick to the flavor. The pork seemed shredded, with a few surprises inside (what appeared to be cartilage). I didn't notice any real flavor; possibly due to the lettuce and tomato. After 2 bites of it, I had given up hope and just tossed it. I missed the pickle flavor, the crispiness of the hero, the roasted flavor of the pork, the lean, cartilage- free pork, the overall consistency of the ingredients and hero bread. I prefer my Cubano sandwich hot or warm, and flavored. Rating: -2 Chicken fingers: The order came with fries included. Your typical fast food fries. No flavor unless eaten shortly after being deep fried. Tastes like a bunch of wax candles in about 10 minutes after sitting. But for $5, you get a lot with the chicken fingers. The fingers (3) came served with 1000 island dressing on the side. The fingers had a very nice flavor, and they were very juicy. No need for the dressing-I tried the dressing on its own and felt it may be an insult to the fingers, so I preserved my good experience with them. Fingers- Rating: 5 Fries- Rating: 2 I honestly don't know if I'd trust them with an actual dinner order,unless it's chicken- because it's seasoned so well. My gut tells me no. If you're looking for a real Cuban sandwich(like the one pictured on their website), it's not here. What they call a "Cuban" is just a pork hero with lettuce, tomatoes and mayo. It's not a bad sandwich but it's just not a Cuban sandwich. Either change the name of the sandwich or at least the picture of it on your online menu, so others won't be bamboozled as well. This place is an incredible value for the portions. My mother and I shared the steamed, whole red snapper (highly recommend) with the fried plantains (not greasy) and rice. We were not too hungry, but wanted to sample their tamale (we're from Texas, so we're accustomed to Mexican style) and a few other interesting dishes on the menu. We ordered at cheese arepa, a deep fried ball of chicharron, and a chicken tamale. The tamale was big, and light as air, unlike the Texas tamales which are skinny. The arepa was what we expected. But to our surprise, the chicharron ball was unexpectedly large, and crunchy, yet crispy and an interesting blend of savory and sweetness in part to the plantain that it was mixed with. We ordered a small carafe of Sangria to go with our meal, and for $40, including tip, we took home enough food for another meal. Will go back to try their breakfast, and some of the other dishes of Colombia and Ecuador. Literally always fast and fresh. I get their ceviche every time and it's always just made. They pay attention to my special notes and the delivery man has always been respectful this far. When my boyfriend and I came to Astoria, we were on the hunt for good Spanish food( we were coming from woodside and ridgewood, so the standards were set pretty high!). We found sandros and for the first few orders, it was everything we could ask for. The breaded chicken was amazing (both the size and the price) and we'd usually pair it with a little extra rice, some platanos and the wings( which are amazing !!). Somewhere along the way, the orders started getting a little sloppy. Sometimes our order would be missing items, sometimes the breaded chicken that usually comes with one egg would have some eggshells inside, sometimes the avocado would be sent dark brown and gross, and sometimes the salad wasn't fresh. Overall if you eat in the restaurant it's good quality but a little slow of service, but the delivery orders have recently been not so fresh. It's kind of a hit or miss. We stopped ordering from there because the last time they sent us a bad avocado and salad, we got mild food poisoning. Hopefully they got their stuff together, I kind of miss having it but I don't want be disappointed again ! read more

Decent food, and I love that I can get Ecuadorian dishes that I don't have to cook myself. Unfortunately I ordered on grubhub and was short on cash The day I ordered and had enough to cover my food. The owner canceled my order because he didn't want to take an order over the phone after his fax messed up, thus leading to my money being tied up for 3 days because he couldn't have been bothered. If you can't handle the business then don't subscribe to a delivery service that will increase your flow. You ruined my day and left me hungry because you couldn't realize what comes first.... your customers. I hope you fix your problems and the way you talk with customers instead of rushing them off the phone, or your going to find yourself with customers going elsewhere. read more
