I have been here 3 different times, I don't think I be going back. Yesterday I order rice and chicken ( Arroz con Pollo) barely any chicken it was like tiny pieces. The chicken was rubbery and tasteless. It was almost like a Chinese with chicken but barely any chicken. No beans I ask if that came with a side of bean or if hey can put beans they waitress said no. I paid 22 bucks for a plate of yellow rice with a few pieces of chicken a rotten tiny slice of avocado and a unsweet plantain hard that was supposed to be hard. I order a Guanabana Juice and it was all water down it taste like water. They claim they have a Cuban sandwich however it's not no garlic not taste no fresh for and lettuce and tomatoes. They have a nice steak Sandwich I had but the bread both time was old and not even warmed. My friend order a soup on time and another time a special it was served very sloppy and cold. The owner sad behind me and he heard me talking to my friend about the rice and didn't even offer to make it better. The waitresses did nothing to make your experience better or even bring water to the table. In general the menu is over price and the service is horrible My last visit here I don't think I be going back. Sandro's has been on my radar for quite some time and recently we bit the bullet and ordered in and then ordered in several times thereafter. Clearly, an indication as to how good this spot is. Need I mention how affordable, as well. The hubs got Bandeja Paisa (Grilled steak, pork skin, sweet plantain, avocado and fried egg. Served with rice and beans.) He loved it. Rich and flavorful. A definite favorite. He has ordered it several times over. I got the Beef Lomo Salteado (Beef, chicken, or pork sauteed with peppers, onions, and fries, served with rice and salad.) So delicious. The beef was tender. The sauce rich with flavor. Very good. We also got a combo of Empanadas (Beef, Chicken, Cheese) and French Fries. Tasty and not too oily. Great lunch spot! Got takeout from here on a weekday and ordered the #2 Bandera. The beef tripe stew and shrimp ceviche were both pretty good, the goat stew was fantastic. I had a bit of leftovers afterwards and still felt super full. Would love to try some other things on their menu. Definitely worth checking out! read more

What amazes me that post pandemic the price is never changed. When you order a grilled chicken dinner it comes with a small salad, rice and sweet plantain. You also have a choice of french fries or beans. Ordering directly from the restaurant. You save an additional 10% which is a nice perk, to be honest, the dinner could feed to. I have personally never dined inside, but this is my friend and I's go to for some bolon and jugo de maracuyá. Their bolon is so good, we always order the bolon mixta with cheese and pork inside with a side of beans and maduros. It never disappoints and we are always left satisfied! So our company ordered lunch today from this Latin restaurant. Of course I ordered a hamburger and fries -- which I won't do again. Everyone's food looked good but mine was ouch! My burger was 100% charred (a frozen patty), cooked until it was dry as a textbook from 1923. The fries--well, take a look at the photo and judge for yourself. The problem with these small restaurants, is they cook, then hold, then re-cook their fries. You never get fresh fries--ever--what you get is re-cooked potato pieces. Moral of the story - Latin restaurants are where you go for latin food. They should lay off the burgers and fries--so should I. In the future I will get some arroz y pollo or something. It's a small restaurant w/ limited seating & plenty of metered street parking. The decor & ambiance is old fashioned & traditional exactly how I like it. The waitresses are all super friendly the prices are dirt cheap for massive portions! They even offer a lunch special.. as for adult beverages Beer & Wine. This spot is truly a restaurant, where everyone & anyone will enjoy. The food has gotten really tasty. My recommendation is always the Bendeja Paisa a never miss ( Grilled Steak, Fried Pork, Eggs, Avocado, Sweet Plantain, Rice & Beans) This meal is enough for 2 hungry individuals. Super glad my gf found this spot. We've ordered delivery a couple times from them and they're one of the places that come sooner than the estimated delivery time. With our first experience, we visited the establishment because my gf was in the process of moving and we wanted to sit down and have a meal as we just finished making furniture and the place was still dusty. We wanted something hearty and meaty so were drawn here by the Bandeja paisa. We came in on Tuesday during the afternoon and we were the only ones dining in while other tables had patrons waiting for pick up. The interior didn't impress me much, but the food was fantastic. We ordered the Bandeja paisa and the mixed ceviche with shrimp and fish. All of the components of the bandeja was well made and seasoned well. The chicharron was one of the best I've ever had - crispy with a little chew from the fried skin. If only the bandeja came with a chorizo! It'd be perfect. The ceviche was also very good - tangy, and refreshing. To be honest, the food exceeded my expectations by quite a lot. Will definitely not be disappointed. Excellent food!! It was my last day in NYC and I stopped in here as a good bye meal. I wanted to order one of everything but settled for an humita, and a bolon with churrasco. It was perfect!! The humita was moist and full of flavor. The bolon and churassco were huge. The chicharrón I'm the bolon was crispy and meaty while the plantain was moist and flavorful and the meat of the churrasco was tender. And the egg yolk was runny as it is suppose to be!! I ordered empanadas beef and cheese which were hot and well flavored with a crispy shell. The maduros were DELICIOUS! Baked, glazed and naturally sweet. Entrees : mixed rice Chufa( chicken, beef, hotdog slices ( its a spanish thing) shrimp and veggies. Very flavorful and most importantly, NOT SALTY! The reach of Yelp serving me well again, as I input 'Spanish food' into my search while in Astoria and my screen fills up with options. Three blocks away from my location shows Sandro's Latin Food with high ratings I head on over. Quite and quite clean inside, I take a table, review my lunch options and occasionally peer over at the television broadcasting the Spanish channel. Although there is a Monday to Friday lunch special for $6.99 I don't think I will get the best Sandro's has to offer, so I dove into the #8, Llapingacho con Hornado o Carne. Roast Pork with rice, potato patties, two eggs, salad, avocado and rice. Wow, monster dish that is as filling as it was delicious. The meat was tender and so flavorful, add to that flavor profile the cream covered potato patties which were warm and creamy and the cool refreshing flavor of the avocado really took the flavor to a wonderful combination of taste. I just could not manage to eat the french fries, which after sampling two, were the low light of the days lunch, bland, cold and unappealing. The $2.00 Soda seemed a bit pricey. read more

We each started with an arepa, which were dense and laden with cheese; we slathered those suckers with the provided green aji sauce. I also had the banana shake, which was great. For mains, I ordered the arroz con pollo, my friend a flank steak dish in creole sauce. His came fairly quickly, and he enjoyed it. Mine was nowhere to be seen. After awhile (at least another 10-15 mins), my waitress came to the table and asked me if I'd ordered arroz con pollo, which I affirmed, and she walked off without explanation. I5 minutes later, I told her to wrap it up to go, as we had to leave. I had some later that night, and the portions were generous enough to provide lunches for me and my wife the next day. The arroz was very tasty, though some of the chicken pieces were too chewy to eat (not sure if that was the result of me having to microwave it, or if the chicken just wasn't tender enough). So, a good place, but I'm docking it a star for the failure to deliver my main dish in a timely manner. read more

Oh. My. Goodness. Possibly my new favorite restaurant in Astoria. My husband and I tried this place because he had a hankering for pupusas so I went to my trusty yelp app to try and find them for him. Although this particular place did not have pupusas, it did have a very high rating and ceviche, which I promptly decided that I had to have right away. The ceviche did not disappoint. It was DELICIOUS. Great flavor, really nice and tangy. The texture on the fish was perfect and there was a good amount of red onion and cilantro which gave the dish a nice flavor and bright color. The ceviche was served with hot, fresh fried plantains which were also delicious. For our entrees, we tried both the chicken stew and the goat stew with rice. Both were excellent. The texture of both meats was very nice and tender. The chicken came right off the bone. The flavor was to die for. I loved that the dishes were not too salty, bother were just the right amount, nice and balanced. The yellow rice was also delicious and cooked to perfection. The dishes were both served with salad and a fried sweet plantain. I'm actually not a huge fan of sweet plantains most of the time, but these were delicious. Great texture and flavor. As you can probably tell, I am a huge texture person. When it comes to food, texture plays a HUGE part in whether or not I like something. I really liked how everything here had a really nice texture. Everything was just perfectly cooked and all the textures worked really well together. Also, the portions really are huge. This place had HUGE portions and was very accommodating with the sides alternatives. I asked for rice and beans instead of the hornado and corn with my pernil dish. The pernil skin was crisp to perfection. And the ceviche! Where do I start? I never had 16$ ceviche in a huge soup bowl! In other places it usually in a small tiny appetizer cup at that price.
