When we first visited to rent a sandboard or sled, the woman at the counter was surprisingly unfriendly, which made the experience a bit uncomfortable. We went through all the rental questions and paperwork, only to find out at the end that they only accept cash , no Venmo, Zelle options...and there's no ATM on site. It was very inconvenient, especially since this important detail wasn't mentioned online. Thankfully, my son was still able to get a board in the end, but the process could have been much smoother with clearer communication and a more welcoming attitude. read more

We bought two adult sand sleds from Venomous Sandboards for a trip to the Pismo Beach Dunes a couple of years ago. Lon provided excellent advice about the sand at our destination, how to apply wax to the sled and what to expect. He is extremely knowledgeable and eager to share his expertise. Our sleds and wax arrived on time, and following his directions, we had an absolute blast! Now, a couple of years later, we are heading to the dunes near Morro Bay. We couldn't find the wax we originally purchased, so we needed to quickly reorder before our trip. Once again, Lon came through. He personally followed up to ensure timely delivery and gave me a refresher on the wax instructions and what to expect. Well I wish I could post our videos from the sand dunes but it does not let me. It was a blast. The man who works here tells you exactly how to do things if you've never been. I recommend getting the sand boards you stand on instead of sled as you can sled on these too and they are way easier to use. read more

Accept no imitations. This was the coolest thing we did on our trip up the Oregon Coast! We reserved a reservation well in advance which I would recommend. We also paid extra for lessons (and a T-Shirt!) which I would recommend. A young man named Caleb was our instructor and he was great. Not only was he personable and easy to talk to for the hour and a half of our lesson, but he was very good at explaining how to ride and improve your technique. Sand Master seems to own about 4 acres of dunes behind their shop which is all we needed to spend a few hours sand boarding. I will say that walking up these massive dunes after each run is hard work. My calves were definitely feeling it the next day. I cannot recommend this place enough. This has got to be one of the most unique things you can do in this part of the country. You can also take these boards out for 24 hours if you want. It seems like there are many other places to sandboard up and down the coast, but three hours at this park was plenty for us! read more

You can't beat this deal! 24 hours and the freedom to take the board where you want for $16 We opted to use the Dunes on the far side of their parking lot and would recommend it! Great spot with tons of options (hills). The woman working was helpful in teaching us tips and which boards would well suite our group (a mix of kids 4-12 and 4 adults). We sand boarded the first evening and again the next afternoon... probably 5-6 hours total? Couldn't get enough! read more

We rented a sandboard from Sand Master Park for my 11yo son, who has enjoyed snowboarding and skateboarding and wanted to try a new medium (sand). We rented a sandboard for $16 (for a 24 hour period), and were told the best boarding was to be found further south in the Oregon Dunes National Monument. Unfortunately, we had only an hour before we had to continue heading south (we were on a family vacation touring Oregon coast), so we contented ourselves by heading out on the dunes behind the Fred Meyer about a quarter mile south of Sand Master Park. We had been expecting that there would be a Sand Master Park right there where we rented the board. There may be a park there, but we were not told about it. They offer individual and group instruction on sandboarding, but due to our short time available, we did not try this. When we returned the board around noon. read more

Super, super good times!! My 10 year old and 13 year old and I rented sandboards today from Sand Master Park AND we dune bugg-yed. It was great and we'd recommend to anyone passing thru Florence. We got warmed up on our sandboards right behind the park, but then ventured on to the Honeyman state park for some longer, steeper hills. Lon was great and gave us the basics before we took off. Showed us stance and how to wax our boards, common pitfalls, etc. so we were set up nicely. Got to keep our boards for 24 hours. Andy, our dune buggy Sherpa was awesome too!! He told us the history of the Oregon dunes in addition to us flying and drifting all over the place. Felt totally safe and in good hands. So fun!! Got lucky with a beautiful day today. Sunny, but breezy. If you dunebuggy, bring a hoodie - it gets a little colder and the sand blasts your skin a bit. But all good! Loved it. We'll be back next time we're in town to visit the G'ma! read more

You can go to the dunes right out back of the office or you can go down to a few spots off the highway at state parks I guess. Fastest, high performance, sandboards! For first time sandboarders, our 12 year twin boys, 17 year son and buddy, had a blast! We paid a little more for the high performance sandboards and it was worth it. For their first experience doing this, it was super cool. Staff -- very knowledge, very helpful and friendly. This was hands down our favorite activity on our vacation to Florence. We have never sand boarded before, and we were so excited to try. We had 11 people, and we rented stand up boards and sleds. The owner's wife showed us how to wax the boards and gave us directions on how to get started. The rental includes the board, plenty of wax, and access to the sand dunes behind the rental shop. The dunes are perfect for learning how to sand board. Some are steeper, which was fantastic for the sled. Some were not so steep, which was perfect for learning how to use the stand up boards. Everyone had a great time - from the 6 year old to the 61 year old! This is a truly unique experience, and it is so much fun. It's so cool that the owner of the shop actually designed and created the boards! $16 per board is an absolute STEAL for the amount of fun we had! We will definitely be back the next time we visit Florence. read more

The whole reason we decided to spend a couple days in Florence, Oregon as part of our summer vacation was so Chris could sandboard. We drove hundreds of miles so he could shred a sand dune and, boy, did he ever. The folks at Sand Master could not have been nicer about getting Chris all set up with a board ($16 for 24 hours - now where can you get a deal like that?) and explaining the difference between snowboarding and sandboarding. Apparently, experienced snowboarders think they've got it all figured out but it really is different and worth a listen if someone's explaining it to you. Of course, Chris listened like a good student, and he rocked it when he hit the dunes. We started out on the smaller dunes right behind Sand Master and then moved on to Honeyman Park on the recommendation of the rental dude. Honeyman deserves its own review but suffice it to say that that's where Chris really got some speed. Even after a post-boarding hike, we managed to return the board by closing time (6:30 pm) and had a nice chat with owners. Here's to a family business that doesn't try to exploit tourists and just offers good clean fun. read more

When you pull up to the sandmaster park store in florence, you won't see a lot of cars. This store is where you get your board and learn about sandboarding, and then you drive 2 min back down the road to the sand dunes, which is why you won't see a lot of cars. This freaked me out a bit thinking no one else was trying it, but trust me, you MUST try this! After getting a brief lesson, we found the pointers easy to follow and were riding down the sand dunes in no time. It took some getting used to, and learning how to best control the board, but was lots of fun! And a lot of work to climb back up, such a work out! The sand dunes themselves are amazing. Such a big area so we could only see a few people, very spread out. No one is on top of each other, lots of space. And I felt better no one could see me fall down. :) The dunes are beautiful! read more

We knew nothing about dune boarding or any other kind of boarding when we walked in here, but that turned out to be no problem. Matt walked us through the basics, rented us a board for $16 and showed us the best spots. Although we didn't really master the sport in the few hours available to us, it wasn't due to lack of equipment, encouragement or information. There are sand dunes right behind the business, and those were plenty big enough for us. If we were to go back, we'd probably head south and explore more, and that'd be easy with the 24-hour rental and mellow return methods. These guys are doing it right and will make your experience better. read more

Owned by the man who first invented sandboarding, these guys are the real deal! Likes: I have never gone sandboarding before so I had a lot of questions when we walked in. I found the owner (and inventor of sandboarding) to be very approachable. I didn't ever feel like he was talking down to us or thinking less of us because we were so inexperienced. He gave us a ton of information and spent extra time with us to make sure we were all fitted correctly. They provided us with wax for the base of the boards and even showed us how to put it on. They told us exactly where to go and how to get started. Once we got the hang of it behind Fred Meyer then we moved on to Honeyman State Park. We really, really loved it there! It was such an epic experience! Dislikes: I can't think of any constructive feedback whatsoever. read more

This place is AWESOME! My boys and I went on a random adventure. On the way to driving to an unknown destination, I came across Sand Master Park on a googled, "Things to do on the coast". I called and although no one answered immediately, I did get a call back within the hour. So, we drove to Florence to check it out. GREAT DECISION!!! Renting a board here is a great experience. Friendly staff, clean and inviting atmosphere. I've been a few times and their is nothing like getting on the dunes for a few hours watching the sunset. Loved the crew here!! My friends and I bought a package deal for a 1-hour sand boarding lesson and the dune buggy ride. We got our sand boarding lesson from Abby and Gabe, both of whom were very knowledgeable, friendly, and accommodating. Their dune buggy died right before our session, but they reimbursed us for the ride. We had to sheepishly request help a few hours later because our car got stuck in the sand while we were driving out to the sand boarding site behind Sand Master Park... Gabe and his manager came to the rescue once they'd closed shop and were very chill about the whole thing. Thank heavens for kind people :) read more

Dr. Dune was great! I brought a bunch of people of all skill levels of other types of boarding but first time sand boarding for all of us. Kids ranged in age from 6-17 and then a couple old 40 year old dads past their glory days of snow and wakeboarding. Prices were very reasonable and he gave us some good advice. Greeted by friendly shopkeeper who was friendly but not overly in-your-face-sales-type guy. Rentals are good price and they have a night drop off bin so you can return even after the store is closed! We went to practice first behind Fred Meyers, then to the lake at Jessie Honeymann state park, and then South Jetty right on ocean! Very fun and easy to learn, and the shopkeeper was right- it is VERY different from snowboarding! Only irritant is that sand can get EVERYWHERE, and stings in the eyes sometimes when it gets to windy. Oh and the hikes up the dunes- but IT IS WORTH IT. The whole family had so much fun, and it is definitely an activity you could do from just a few times to the whole day! Recommend if you are passing by, take an afternoon to go to Sandmaster and check sand boarding off your bucket list! read more
