We had them stop by to give an estimate on our backyard and they were very careful with their examination of our small space. It used to be over run by weeds where you couldn't even see the plants. Then this miracle worker came in and sent us these pictures of the after shot. I. Was. Astounded. My whole family. We're all beyond busy so we can not get around to it, but it only took him an hour and he did a phenomenal job. Will be using this company again, and recommend to anyone who wants a careful, knowledgeable hand.

Robin Everhart our designer, Ryan Travalini our project manager, Ben and his crew all executed what we wanted, turned our space from mixed of concrete, dirt and mulch into whole area paved and designed into what we dreamed of. They also accommodated some changes along the way without any issues. On the very first day, Robin designed our backyard per our vision, listened to what we wanted and took our budget into account. He was very nice and was able to revise the design multiple times to what works for us functionally and aesthetically. Ben and his crew was amazing and cleaned up thoroughly each day. Ryan our project manager was present everyday to ensure the team had what they needed and anything we wanted was addressed. He was easily reached and pleasant to interact with, checking in with us every step of the way through text and call. It has been about 2 months when our outdoor space was done and to this day, he's very responsive to our text for questions and made sure we are 100% satisfied with our pavers. And that is what we call great customer service. We love our yard. It looks absolutely stunning. We couldn't be happier.

I…read morewould advise others -- especially first-time homeowners -- to proceed with caution and consider other contractors. It took me over a year to emotionally recover from the trauma of working with this business as a first major renovation project. --- Long story below As a first major home improvement project (front yard and driveway remodel), I hired a separate professional designer, had 3D renderings made, selected materials in advance, and clearly communicated the desired aesthetic and expected quality to all bidding contractors. Justin's Professional Landscaping had strong early reviews and was responsive at first. I agreed to a contract requiring over 25% upfront payment (which I now regret). Key issues I experienced: - Repeated requests for payment before corresponding work was completed - An uncomfortable incident where the foreman (Justin's father) came to my home on an off-day claiming he hadn't been paid, despite my having already paid Justin. - Poor daily cleanup, resulting in my HOA issuing a notice - Minimal on-site supervision by Justin - Workmanship issues (photos available), including: A unleveled wall that started leaning forward shortly after installation, uneven capstones and a section creating a tripping hazard, poorly graded and uneven pavers, joint sand not installed promptly, and walkway that was not correctly aligned with my front door. By the time these issues surfaced, I had paid about 90% of the project cost, yet the work was incomplete and did not meet reasonable expectations. A revised scope was attempted for the wall only (against my better judgment), but supervision and execution problems continued. After observing additional mistakes, poor practices and lack of control over the crew, I terminated the contract.

Justin made some suggestions, and his crew executed perfectly We went with concrete for easier and safer access, benderboard instead of blocks because of the narrow yard. Simple, cleanly done, bed is edged to contain the soil, trees are well seated and fertilized, irrigation updated for the new plantings, weed cloth under the gravel. Concrete has a nice brushed finish for traction in the wet, tree is staked, can't wait to see them bloom. It's the nice little details that make a quality job. Every day the site was cleaned as if they hadn't been there, they worked quickly and carefully even in the narrow areas. I'm very happy with the job and execution, and highly recommend them.

Stephen is truly a master at his craft. We've loved his work and designs so much, we've now done…read moretwo yards with him! We specifically enjoyed Stephen's approach because it was so "design" minded, compared to other landscaping companies that want you to have your own plan/design in mind- Stephen really takes the time to think through what you want, translate what you're looking for, and put it into a design that really works both aesthetically and functionally. He didn't hesitate to let us know when something we said we wanted, actually didn't match up with our goals - I appreciated the honesty and transparency.

By the time the warm weather came around, our hardy weeds would wear down to a brown dust on top of packed clay soil. We might have tried parking cars on the hard pack. It was a hot dusty mess. When the rain came, one day of rain could turn the hard pack into a morass of sticky gooey mud which was hard to clean off the feet, and hard to clean off the dog. Our backyard was unusable about 3/4 of the year. Finally, we had a couple of slopes in the backyard that were a challenge to know what to do with...it was not an easy place, full of work. The best thing (among many) is that Steve is knowledgeable about plants, how they respond to the weather, and where they will grow. He is also willing to work with you, listen to you, incorporate your ideas, convictions, wishes and desires for the planning of your landscape. I do believe Steve was tired of seeing our number on his caller ID when we called, but he always got back to us, answered our questions and made adjustments as he went. We were definitely heard in our wishes. LIving Earth Gardens handled our soil construction (where they turned it from clingy, muddy cement to soil that would grow stuff) They cleared brush, the planted trees, fruit trees, and put in a drip system to help us water it all. From start to finish they had the tools and know how. They also put in some stairs to make the slope navigable. You will find the whole staff energetic, positive and conscientious. We are pleased with our yard and the effort that was made to get us there.

She clearly communicated her expertise and when our questions drifted to the actual execution of the work, she would always say "that is for the contractor to decide". While some may think this response abrupt or uncaring, Linda is clear in what she does (design) and does not do (installation). We did end up tweaking some design elements to lower installation cost but overall followed her plan. Even when we asked for different plants after her main design was completed, she helped us out at no additional cost. It was a good learning experience for us and we are happy with the final result. Linda's design process from beginning to end is extremely effective! It involved friendly communication and relationship-building to ensure we provided her with our plant interests and overall desired garden outcome that helped her with designing our front yard. Linda's expertise in plant knowledge and garden design resulted in a drafted plan that was very detailed and informative. In addition, Linda's contractor referrals helped to seamlessly complete the project process. About six years ago, we had our front yard transitioned from lawn to drought-tolerant plants, but it hadn't been thriving. With Linda's help, we were able to keep the healthier plants and incorporate their place in the yard into Linda's plan. We appreciated that as well as her suggestion to transplant many of the existing plants that didn't really fit the front yard's plan to the backyard area where they can still be enjoyed. Linda's gardening love and enthusiasm is infectious! With our newly completed front yard and improved backyard, I'm looking forward to increasing my own gardening skills and enjoying the therapeutic benefits it can provide.

My husband and I love gardening and want to put in a greenhouse and fire pit seating area in our front and side areas (we are on a corner lot). We both are professionals who work in SF and have different taste so we thought we would hire a professional landscape designer to give us cohesive design. I got a referral from Vince's Landscaping (great company) to Alison from Simply Perfect Garden's. I gave her a call and she was lovely at first until she found out I live in Rodeo, CA in Contra Costa County. She instantly said, "I usually work in Walnut Creek, I mean, I barely have time for my family. I don't have the time, I'll find you someone more suitable for you". I was blown away at her response. We were on the phone for only a minute and a half when she says all this. Rodeo is closer to Benicia than Walnut Creek and is in the same county but this is know as a blue collar town. I'm sorry to hear she doesn't have enough time for her family but this is her business, no one was asking her to do it for free and as a person who represents workers like gardeners in Golden Gate Park and Silverado Country Club, I respect people who work in horticulture and know their value. To me it sounds like she has a problem with being able to control her own schedule but a larger problem with stereotyping and bias. Mind you, it's Martin Luther King Day. So if even you have a million dollar home, if it is in an "undesirable" zip code, don't bother calling this company.

While cleaning up the yard, he didn't have enough room in his truck to take everything to the dump, so he had to make a second trip. He charged me an extra $100 (over the amount quoted) for the second trip even though it was the same amount of debris that was there when he gave me the initial quote. He didn't tell me how much mulch to order because he didn't know how much for the size yard. Instead, he gave me the square footage of my yard and left it up to me to figure out. No big deal, I plugged the numbers into a calculator I found on the internet. The price he quoted for the mulch was very high in my opinion but I have a steep hillside in my backyard and didn't want to drag all that mulch up by myself. He said that he would spray the ground for weeds before spreading the mulch. He did not. I am already getting weeds all over my yard (1 week after the work was completed) and I don't even have any sprinklers in any of those areas. I texted him to ask when he will be over to spray the yard to kill the current weeds and prevent any new ones (at least for the summer), he called me and denied saying that the spraying was included and that he could spray but it would be extra. No thanks, Jose! He charged $600 to spread mulch in the front yard (which is flat) and it only took him and one worker 3 hours to complete. At $200/hour, I would rather spray the yard myself. If you hire this company, get everything in writing. Also, he only accepts cash which seems kind of shady to me. Jose, are you reporting your income to the IRS or just pocketing the money under the table?
