Had a delicious meal here with my friend and her family!…read more As soon as we walked in I smelled garlic and Italian flavors. Great start to the evening! We had reservations and we were seated promptly. We shared the bruschetta. The tomatoes were very fresh and the focaccia bread was wonderful! For my entree I had capellini sardi, but I substituted penne for the capellini. The flavors in this pasta dish were wonderful! Everyone else enjoyed their dishes as well. Service was great. Drinks refilled as needed and we were checked on.

Went on a weekday for a work social and people were dressed casual to smart casual. Food: The food was a little disappointing, and was more of a modern interpretation of classic Italian food. The bruschetta had a bit too much tomato, and it was diced very finely and was on the watery side rather than the sweet or acidic side. The grilled calamari was interesting with the char, but the red bell pepper on the side tasted on the acidic/sour side, and could use more sweetness. The linguini was cooked well but didn't have the al dente texture of freshly made pasta and again, the tomato sauce tasted too watery and lacked the sweetness and tartness and there was no white wine taste. Service: The server was friendly and generally out of the way, but had trouble understanding us at times. There were a couple of us who were vegetarian and he had trouble hearing, and suggested pizzas with meat on them to the vegetarians, and so we had to repeat ourselves several times for him to understand. The food also came out quite slowly, especially the mains, and felt like we were sitting for a long time. They did clean the table off between courses, which was appreciated. Okay option if you're in the area, but had better food elsewhere.

We have chosen this restaurant as our mom-daughter date night for Winterlicious. It's priced at the…read moretop tier ($75/ person) for Winterlicious, we had quite an expectation prior to the evening. Here's what we tried: I ordered the French Kiss cocktail before the food, and it was such a treat--fruity, refreshing, and balanced without being too sweet. I was sipping it throughout and honestly, it's a palate cleanser between each dish. Lobster Crab Cake- the perfect start to the meal. Crispy on the outside, soft and full of flavour on the inside, and the tangy sauce paired well with the flavour profile of the dish. Not too heavy to start off the meal. Tuna Tataki- the tuna was seared to perfection and still had a little chew to every bite. The light sweet dressing brought everything together without overpowering the natural flavours of the tuna. At first, I thought the sauce was a bit too sweet, but if I had the tuna together with the guacamole in each bite, it actually brought out the flavours of the tuna. For the main, my mom picked the duck leg confit. The duck was so tender it practically fell off the bone! The skin was perfectly crispy, and it came with fettuccine tossed in a rich truffle oil sauce and some mushrooms, you could smell the truffle from a mile away! It felt like pure comfort food with a touch of elegance. As for myself, I picked the Cast-Iron Steak Frites. This steak was was cooked to a perfect medium rare, with a beautiful crust from the cast iron and a juicy, tender center. The fries were freshly fried to golden, and crispy. Though the menu said the fries were tossed with rosemary, we couldn't taste anything except plain golden crsipy fries. But that garlic mayo on the side? Totally made up for that- with real garlic in the mayo, it was creamy, flavourful, and the perfect dip for those fries. For the dessert, we picked the tiramisu and creme brulee. The tiramisu was creamy, not too sweet, and with just the right hit of espresso. It was such a comforting and indulgent way to end the meal. Though it could definitely worked on the appearance. It looked like as if it was scooped out from a giant spoon and the chef just plop it on the plate. The vanilla crème brûlée had that perfect crackly caramelized top, and the custard underneath was silky smooth and full of vanilla flavour. Simple, classic, and what a satisfying way to wrap up the meal. And you don't have to worry about the parking situation, Palace Pier offers complimentary valet parking for those who dine at the restaurant, and it was such a thoughtful touch that made the night even more special. If you are looking for a great date night spot, I can't recommend Velouté Bistro enough with great food, cozy vibes, and amazing service. We'll definitely be back!

There is parking there, but finding the restaurant itself was a bit challenging as you need to through a bunch of hallways and elevator to get there. Luckily the concierge in the lobby was very helpful in guiding you there. The restaurant looked very dated and comprised of a few separate dining areas. I sat in the main dining area towards the back which had a 70's solarium feel, but it was comfortable, too bad it wasn't high enough to enjoy the lake views. My friend and I had the lobster & crab tien which was good and nicely plated. I had the baked salmon in parchment paper which was extremely disappointing. The menu was very descriptive, but what I was served was an over cooked salmon with small side of veggies and a dollop of mashed potatoes. It reminded me of banquet food and the presentation was disappointing, it was nothing special and definitely not worth half of what they were charging. Someone at the next table ordered the same thing and asked the waiter to open and remove the parchment paper for him. My friend ordered the chicken Rossini, which was also resembled banquet food and was nothing special. It was overly described on the menu and there was nothing that resembled or tasted of foie gras parfait (seems like this is a problem they have been having for years based on the reviews here). Definitely nowhere near the $38 they were charging. For dessert I had the lemon meringue cake which was nothing to talk about while my friend had the no-bake blueberry cheesecake which was exactly how it sounds, though it was decent it was not memorable. The guests there seem to be mostly residents of the condo so it seems like they cater to them, more like a glorified cantina. The waiter was pushing the steaks which looked really good and a better value but neither of us eat red meat, unfortunately. The service throughout my meal was excellent, which I give an extra star for. I wouldn't really consider Veloute a fine dining restaurant and there are many other restaurants with excellent food at a better value out there.

I was really excited, it looked like a cute vibe and the food was said to be great! When we arrived, it was quite busy for a Wednesday and it took a little while to be seated. The staff seemed quite busy but it took quite some time to be seen and given water. We had lots of time to review our shared menu until a second was brought over. I was disappointed to see that the menu did not match what was listed on the menu website and the dish I was excited to try wasn't listed on the menu. After about 15 minutes our server returned for our drink orders. Knowing it was taking a bit and they were busy we tried to place our food order at the same time but she left before we could do so. Once she brought over our drinks another 15 minutes later, we ordered our app and mains. We were seeing tables around us getting their food and it took quite some time for our appetizer. After about 30 minutes, I watched our server bring it to the wrong table, back to the kitchen, then over to us. At this point, we had been there for over an hour before our app hit the table. Thankfully, it was really quite yummy! Our entrees were ready immediately after we finished our appetizer. The server did an awkward rearrange of the table while both placing new food and removing old dishes. My dining partner helped her stack everything. She also took our side plates offering us new ones but never brought the new ones over sadly. Once everything was placed, I asked our server for some hot honey. We shared the mushroom pizza and pappardelle pasta. Unfortunately, neither were great. The pasta was nice but the layer of cheese was super thick so I didn't really taste much else. That said, the cheese was tasty. As for the pizza, it was a little burnt on the bottom. Normally, I wouldn't care so much but it made it quite dry. Unfortunately the requested hot honey was delivered and it was just chillies in oil :( very disappointing. Our server didn't check in so I never had the chance to flag this. The full pizza was also just 4 slices. At $26, I was expecting it to be larger. Additionally our waters were empty for quite some time. At that point, we gave up. We finally asked for the bill when another server stopped at the table beside us. We popped upstairs to check out the band but there wasn't anyone playing. After waiting a bit we just went home. All that to say, I think maybe this could have been a one-off. Knowing I discovered them on TikTok, maybe they're just adjusting to an increased volume of business and need to iron out the kinks. I personally would not go back but I also wouldn't dissuade someone else from going if they mentioned it to me.

I don't venture out much to this area that might change as one of the go to ice cream spots has moved here as well. This wasn't as much of a planned trip as initial idea was to try the very popular spot nearby. We put our name down and after hearing about the long wait time decided to explore the area. I recalled this place is nearby so reckoned might as well see what's going on there. No wait time for starters ( that ought to change I think) The ambiance needs an overhaul imo we are talking 80s (maybe even earlier style decor) not very inviting. Ah well. The wine and drink selection is limited though it being a warmer day I didn't explore the wine section much. Here is a play by play Free bread is meh Arancini with asparagus good stuff here though I recall it having a piece in the center on delivery orders Mafalade all'aragosta the lobster pasta seems to be trending for a while and this is a good version. In really enjoyed the pairing with mushrooms and a generous portion. Lots of meat as well and it's my rec if you like this style. Casarecce all pollo. The dining companion ordered this and enjoyed it a lot. Commented a nice amount of pine nuts is not so common. High recommendations here folks and at this price point worth a trek here. 4 stars solid

The portions were extremely generous, especially when considering the price and the cost of food. WELL WORTH IT! I chose the veal sandwich (as my photo shows) with hot peppers. We requested a bit of time after the meal, which gave me just enough time to take in the atmosphere and aesthetic of this place. To me, it feels like a fusion of an old-world Italian bistro meets the new world, with old-school style tablecloths and the traditional sides in traditional glass serving containers. A panini is a great filler (the hot Italian is a great way to go). The meatball sandwich combines the best of all worlds - delicious meatballs, and delicious breads. And, the pizzas? Incredible value. The Costa Nostra is a great way to get a lot of unique flavours that work really well. There is also a wall of wine, which I'm sure is very exciting for a number of people. That's a world I can't speak to, but it was impressive to look at. The only slight downside is that the restaurant can be a little bit loud. But that's to be expected.
