First-time customer here!
I'd heard great things about this spot, so I made it a point to come early since it gets busy around noon. With the doors opening at 10 a.m., we arrived at 10:30 a.m., only to discover their famous sandwiches don't start being served until 11 a.m. To pass the time, my company and I ordered an espresso white chocolate cookie to share. Around 10:50 a.m., I noticed people already lining up for sandwiches, so I decided to place my order early. (In hindsight, I wish the cashier had mentioned that we could pre-order sandwiches when we bought the cookie!)
Pro tip: If you're planning to visit for lunch, come early and order right away. By 11:30-45 a.m., all the dine-in seats were taken, and by 11:45 a.m., some menu items were already sold out or unavailable (my assumption, given some menu items were taped to cover when they weren't precious upon arrival). The lunch rush is constant, with at least 10 people in line at all times. Also, if you're coming for dinner, make a reservation; but lunch is first-come, first-serve.
The Food
Espresso White Chocolate Cookie:
A fantastic start. The cookie was perfectly chewy with crispy edges. The coffee flavor was subtle, making it enjoyable even for non-coffee drinkers, while still being balanced for those who love coffee (like me). It wasn't overly sweet. I'd absolutely order this again.
Bistecca Focaccia Sandwich:
The star of the show! Unlike many places, their focaccia is thinner, which gives it an ideal bread-to-filling ratio. The bread was insanely crispy, and the thinly sliced steak was packed with flavor. We swapped the usual horseradish aioli for garlic aioli, and it was a game-changer. Highly recommend this sandwich - I'll be back for it.
Bee Sting Pizza:
For $6, you get two rectangular slices. The crust was thin and incredibly crispy, which was a pleasant surprise. The flavor was bold, with a spicy kick and a touch of creaminess. While I enjoyed it, I'd still choose their sandwiches over the pizza next time.
The Experience
Service was friendly but unremarkable. Since lunch is self-serve, we ordered at the counter and seated ourselves. However, an employee did come by to clear our table and greeted us as we left.
The space has a minimalist yet cool aesthetic. Lunch feels casual, but I can imagine it becomes more upscale and atmospheric in the evening with the bar and mood lighting.
Parking is free and wasn't an issue at 10:30 a.m., but by noon, people were waiting for spots.
Overall:
This spot is worth the hype, but timing is key. Come early, plan ahead, and don't miss the Bistecca Focaccia Sandwich! read more
